According to the director for 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand the game is not a political statement nor is it based on reality in any way shape or form, just like 50’s life. Well, that last part was just me taking a dig at the rapper and not an actual quote from director Julian Widdows.
In an interview with CVG he states:
“It’s fictional, it’s an ‘everyman’s war zone’, is the way we describe it. It’s an arcade game, so it needs to be implacable in many senses. There’s no geo-political context to this game. It’s clearly a crime story. The arch bad guy - we can’t tell you who it is but it’s a pretty high profile American actor - will be instantly recognisable. But he’s an American. The first key bad guy that you encounter, who you’re actually working for at this point, is an American. The guards you shoot in the third act are all Russian. And so it’s an international crime syndicate which is operating in this everyman’s war zone. It’s the hood beyond the hood. It’s a crime story, a gangland story.”
So what he is basically saying is that it is an equal opportunity game for any baddie ever invented out there in gang game land. What I want to know is, since when is the desert in the Middle East considered “the hood”? Did I miss that being divulged in Civics class or something? Supposedly rapper, thug, gangsta, Eminem bff, ex-con, entrepreneur, Kanye West hatin’ 50 Cent is set to star in his second videogame.According to EGM, the follow-up to 50 Cent: Bulletproof, tentatively titled 50 Cent II is a third-person shooter that puts 50 and his “G-Unit” homies in the middle east caught between warring factions after being stiffed for their payment for a concert performance. It is currently in development by Swordfish Studios and will be published by Sierra.
Apparently the original game sold enough units to warrant an sequel, which while shocking does not surprise me in the least. Anyway, if you want more information on this, like consoles, expected release dates and what not, you can check out the latest issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly.

Del the Funky Homosapien is many things to the rap community: a member of the Gorillaz, leader of Heiroglyphics, Ice Cube’s younger cousin. To the gaming community, he’s also known as a nerdcore rapper whose tracks have appeared in several games, mostly in the Tony Hawk series. The other day, he showed off both his rapping skills and his love of video games in Purple Reign Studios as he performed a freestyle to promote his new album, “The Eleventh Hour.” His impromptu performance had him dropping familiar names like “Yoshi,” “Zaxxon,” and even “Congo Bongo.” Besides that, he’s just one of those great rappers left over from before rap music seemed to degenerate into being strictly about making “club music.”

Let’s face it, the stereotype of the gamer who sits alone in his room all day playing video games had to come from somewhere. So let’s just think of this music video as a message to all those other people out there. This video from rapper Dragon Boy Suede and Jonah Ray offers one simple piece of advice: “Quit Playing Video Games and Get Laid.” There’s nothing I could say about this video that the music doesn’t already say itself (but I will give it the award for “Most Erotic Use of a Power Glove”). I’ll be sure to take their advice right after finish up my games of Frogger and Donkey Kong.
