New Mythos Video Discusses Class and Race

Posted by Stephany on Friday, March 28th, 2008 at 8:27 am under Videos, Gamer Life, Computer, Games, Game Platforms, Game Companies

Mythos `Class Introduction` Trailer

The newest video from Flagship Studios shows off not only the different races to choose from in their free MMORPG Mythos, but also goes into detail on three of the different classes to choose from.

The Bloodletter is your typical melee warrior, and if you like a character who is more hands on with their weapons and one that can get in the middle of a fight, then this will be the best melee class to choose. Bloodletters can also summon blood minions to help you do your dirty work in the heat of battle.

Pyromancers are basically wizards or magicians who can summon elementals to help them out in a pinch. Like most classes of this type, Pyromancers are best used at a distance when in battle, but if faced with a surrounding horde of enemies, they can still hold their own, but not as well as the Bloodletter.

Gadgeteers are also a class best used at a distance. Although guns and rifles are their primary weapons, the attacks are slower, and while more powerful the delay when using these weapons can cause an enemy to get close enough to attack. Gadgeteers will probably be better suited to standing in the back like a bowman or a hunter.

Mythos is shaping up to be a great game, especially for one that is free. The graphics are pretty nice compared to other free MMORPGs on the market and I have had a lot of fun so far with the beta. The third chapter was released on Monday and so far it is proving to be a highly entertaining game addition.

Discover the Secrets of Uld with Chapter Three of Mythos

Posted by Stephany on Thursday, March 27th, 2008 at 1:05 pm under Gamer Life, Computer, Games, Game Platforms, Game Companies

mythos

Flagship Studios has announced the introduction of the third chapter for the closed beta program of the free MMORPG Mythos along with a new official website.

Mythos’ third chapter introduces the Umbral Peaks and the towns of Mistglade and Arcled and includes quest content that will allow players to progress to level 30. New features include the introduction of a new Cyclopean character race, a crafting system, in-game mail, socketable armor, trinkets, and stat bonuses for skill tier investment. For the first time, players can participate in PvP dueling thanks to a dedicated PvP world, the Shadowlands.

Mythos
is an online, action role-playing game that is free to download and free to play. Set in the land of Uld – a fantasy world arising from the ashes of an epoch-long war of darkness – players assume the roles of fantasy heroes as they explore, adventure, and quest through entirely randomized dungeons and environments. With a point-and-click interface and an accessible “isometric” perspective, the game allows thousands of players to interact within the same world while using mostly “instanced” dungeons to create unique gaming experiences suited for both solo and group-minded players.

As players journey into Mythos’ ever-expanding universe, they select one of four races (Human, Satyr, Gremlin, or Cyclops) and opt to play as a particular character class using a huge variety of skills and items. Through heroic quests players search for gold, gems, armor, and weapons, while unlocking the secrets of Uld. The game has a constantly expanding, continuously updated world where something new lurks around every corner.

I have been playing the beta for a few months now, and I have to say that for a free MMORPG, it is pretty neat and is also a lot of fun.

The second entry of a Mythos beta journal by an anonymous source is up on TenTonHammer. This free to play MMO is described as a mixture of World of Warcraft, Diablo, and Guild Wars.

The first journal entry focused on installation, character creation, graphics and UI. The second part goes into the multi-player aspects including partying and zone instances.

Flagship Studios’ Mythos MMO is currently in closed beta testing. The latest update, Zone 3 The Umbral Peaks, was released earlier this week. Mythos looks like it’s shaping up to be a good game for Diablo fans to follow closely.

The Escapist “Critical Success, Commercial Flop”

The Escapist explores games and consoles that have received critical acclaim, but were ultimately commercial disasters in issue 139: “Critical Success, Commercial Flop.” There will always be exemplary products that end up going down in flames despite all indications. However many of these games accrue a cult following lasting long after titles from the same era are gathering dust, forlorn and forgotten. Take a look at a few of these rare finds on The Escapist.

In “Fighting with Monsters” journalistic heroism is questioned with Beyond Good & Evil by Brendan Caldwell. Howard Wen Interviews Dan Potter, founder of Cryptic Allusion in “Cryptic Allusion on Keeping the Dream(cast) Alive.” The game Grim Fandango has held onto its community as told by Nova “Chimaera” Barlow in “Walk, Don’t Run.” Alan Au continues to play the original and wait for “X-com: The Truth Is Out There.” And in “For the Love of the Game” Chris La Vigne finds who develops the game for the gamer and not the money.

'Mythos' Gameplay Trailer and Beta Updates

Posted by Stephany on Friday, January 25th, 2008 at 5:42 pm under Videos, Gamer Life, Games Industry, Computer, Game Platforms, Game Companies

Mythos Gameplay Trailer 3

Apparently, so many people have been playing the Mythos BETA that the folks over at Flagship Studios have added some hardware to the server cluster and if you log on tonight, this update should alleviate the lag spikes felt by some gamers. It is no wonder that so many people have been pushing the Mythos servers to the breaking point as cool as it is. I personally played a bit of the BETA some months back, and considering the fact that this game was created by the same people who helped create none other than Diablo, its no wonder it is so popular.

Watching the trailer, you get a great idea of the RPG gameplay mechanics that occur during the game, and if you are into the whole RPG scene, you should enjoy Mythoswhen it is finally released to the public; plus, for a free action RPG, Mythos looks fantastic compared to others in the “free-to-play” market.

Set in the land of Uld - a fantasy world arising from the ashes of an epoch-long war of darkness - players assume the roles of fantasy heroes as they explore, adventure, and quest through entirely randomized dungeons and environments. Being a standard point and click dungeon crawler, it is a great way for gamers who have shied away from MMOs in the past to be able to get on board with because you do not have time constraints as far as gameplay - if you want to play for 15 minutes or 15 hours, you can accomplish just as many feats either way .

Mythos Trailer - Flagship Studios Talks About New MMO

Posted by Stephany on Thursday, November 15th, 2007 at 1:21 pm under Gamer Life, Videos, Computer, Games, Game Companies

Mythos Trailer

Mythos is an online, action RPG that is free to download and free to play. Set in the land of Uld - a fantasy world arising from the ashes of an epoch-long war of darkness - players assume the roles of fantasy heroes as they explore, adventure, and quest through entirely randomized dungeons and environments. Flagship Studios has released a trailer showing some in-game footage of Mythos which they feel will entice players fond of Diablo. While you do see some footage from the game, the video is mostly Producer Brock Jones talking about what they are trying to accomplish with the game, and how he feels that even with a more instance style of MMO gameplay, gamers should find Mythos something fun and less daunting than the majority of MMORPGs on the market.

Jones describes Mythos as “A game people are instantly familiar with, but is also new to them. I think we are coming close to getting that, as it has the familiarity to anyone who has played Diablo or Diablo 2 - they know how to play it and they come straight into it. The feeling of it is updated and it is a little less dark, but it still has enough interest to hold people, and I think it is something people can get really excited about in a short time span; ten minutes here, fifteen minutes there rather than epic long games that require hours and hours at a time.”

So basically what he is saying, is that Mythos is a MMO Diablo clone where if you want to run into a dungeon and kick some ass, it will not take you hours and hours to do so. Being a standard point and click dungeon crawler, it sounds like it might be something that gamers who have shied away from MMOs in the past may be able to get on board with. This being said though, it is no wonder that Brock kind of got a dig in at WoW when he mentioned “epic long games” and stated that his game is nothing more than a Diablo clone masked as an MMO, when Flagship Studios is comprised of Blizzard defectors.

They are still accepting emails from people who want in on the Mythos beta, so get on over to the website and sign up if you are interested.

Q&A Flagship's Roper Talks Hellgate

Posted by Shawn on Monday, July 2nd, 2007 at 10:31 am under Games, Game Companies

bill_roper.jpgGamasutra caught up with Flagship’s CEO Bill Roper to discuss the pricing system for Hellgate and plans for Mythos. Roper discusses the break from Blizzard Vivendi and the formation of Flagship Studios.

Roper goes into depth about the inaugural project for the studio Hellgate: London.  For those of you unfamiliar with the game, Hellgate was inspired by Diablo and is a completely randomized RPG played in first person perspective. The pricing system is a one time investment in the game. For players that want more expanding content, it will come at a monthly subscription fee.

Roper also goes into the company’s casual fantasy MMO Mythos.  The two titles were not made to be WoW killers but to offer options to those players who love RPGs but want more action to go with them.
