Remember back in June when when all those Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots bundles for the PS3 went on sale? Did you miss out on your chance to get one? Well, Walmart has your back because they are selling the Limited Edition Kojima Silver MSG4 40GB PS3 Bundles for $399.99–but you may want to check for availability before you head down to you nearest boxmart.
You can, however order one online and if you want to save $19.94 on shipping, you can have it delivered to your nearest Walmart store for pick-up. Kind of like Circuit City but without all the lies.
Now that we know these bundles are still in demand after all these months, let us hope that those of us out there who still want the 80GB model will be shown some love as well relatively soon.

I’ve been saying it for over a year now: “The day Metal Gear Solid 4 comes out is the day I buy a PS3.” So on Thursday, June 12th, that’s exactly what I did. I even drove an hour to a Wal-Mart in a small town at 6 AM to make sure I could secure the special system bundle. Being a huge fan of the series, I wanted to savor the experience, so I waited until the weekend to start playing, when I could really devote my time to the game. In the meantime, I perused reviews praising the game for its brilliant gameplay and for fixing problems that had plagued the series from the beginning. Naturally, I was even more excited to begin playing. So imagine my dissapointment when I actually popped in the disc and found it to be more movie than game.

Konami has canceled launch events for its new Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots game in the wake of an attack by a knife-wielding man that went on a stabbing rampage leaving seven dead. The company cited concern for public safety as the reason for the cancellation of the Japanese launch events, one of which was to take place in Tokyo’s Akihabara district, the site of the attack.
Players control a soldier armed with a knife and various other weapons who fights his way through a multitude of enemies by killing and disabling them in a variety of missions.
In the Akihabara knife incident, a 25 year-old man allegedly drove a two-ton truck into a crowd of pedestrians and then ran through the area stabbing and slashing bystanders before being arrested.
Sales of MGS4 in Japan will go on as planned and launch events elsewhere are still on.

Fans of MGS and PS3 owners alike cannot wait for June 12th to arrive. Who could blame them though? MGS4 looks amazing, is a great series, and this is the last time we will ever get to play as the venerable Snake. Supposedly.
As someone who has loved playing these games over the years and who unfortunately does not own a PS3 yet, all I can do is just gaze in awe at the gorgeous screenshots and very cinematic trailers. These new screens are no exception. Enjoy.

G4 TV has released a new gameplay video of the long awaited Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. The footage demonstrates The new recon droid for MGS4. It also gives gamers a good look at the real time gameplay and the wide variety of weapons that are available. You can ship to a weapon and auto to first person with ease. In this video, your allies, Meryl’s Rat Patrol team, demonstrate smart AI that will actually help you in combat.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots has now received a rating from the wonderful ESRB. Konami’s much anticipated final chapter in the series will be rated “M” for Mature, which means that if you are under 17 you should not be allowed to purchase it as the game will scar your minds, sully your souls, and make you commit random acts of violence on over the top enemies.
It is no surprise though considering 98% of all Metal Gear titles have been rated “M” – the only other titles for the series to be rated anything other than “M” were for handhelds. Anyway, here is the info pulled from the ESRB site, enjoy the boredom it brings to your world.
- Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
- Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc.
- “M”
- Blood, Crude Humor,Strong Language, Suggestive Themes, Violence
- PlayStation 3

Gaming news journalist Freeze over at XboxFamily.com vehemently reports that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will be heading to the Xbox 360 platform sometime in 2009. His source? An undisclosed Konami representative via a meeting of sorts. According to Freeze, he wrestled info from the rep stating “Metal Gear Solid [4] will be released for the Xbox 360 between 12 to 14 months after the PS3 version hits shelves.” Freeze stands by his claim that “This is not a rumor.”
Not satisfied with that alone, Freeze attempted to get an MS PR team member to assist him in backing up the Konami reps’ claim. Of course, Freeze received the obligatory “no comment” response from Microsoft.
Whether to chalk this up as a rumor or not, I’ll leave up to you to decide. It is my personal opinion that reports from undisclosed sources, regardless of the reputation of the reporter or site reporting it, are rumors until proven otherwise.
And I’m sure the fanboys will have their fun with this as well. As far as rumors go, this is certainly a plausible one. I would easily place more faith in information passed down from an undisclosed source from Konami than any Sony representative claiming “MGS4 is PS3 exclusive.” (If you will recall, MGS2 was claimed “PS2 exclusive” prior to release.)
Then again, one could easily argue that the whole “wow” factor of MGS4 will probably die down a year after release. 2009 is a long way off. Snake will be sucking down margaritas on some undisclosed beach in 2009. Enjoy your (hopefully permanent) retirement, Snake.
And Konami, milk that fat cash cow for all it’s worth.

Reuters has an interesting article up today exploring the question, is Metal Gear Solid 4 destined to be the last of the great third-party exclusives? Video game production costs are rising these days, costing between $10 million and $50 million to make a quality title. Assistant producer for MGS4, Ryan Payton, says that the game will need to sell a million units on day one to recoup production costs. That’s quite a tough mark to hit, since only two other PS3 games have sold that many to date. Thus, many game developers are going multi-platform, a fact that Sony has been observing for some time now:
“We understand publishers are needing to recoup their investment,” said Peter Dille, senior vice president of marketing for Sony. “From our perspective, as long as the games aren’t going exclusive to other platforms, PS3 gamers are not actually losing anything.”
For my money, I doubt MGS4 will be the last great third-party exclusive, but they are becoming rarer these days. Still, as long as the console makers have enough money to lure developers to their camp, I’m sure we’ll continue to see the occasional major title remaining exclusive to one console or another.
