Super Mario World “Lazy” Completion

By Daniel on Sunday, August 26th, 2007 at 9:54 AM PST In Gamer Life, Videos

This has got to be one of the most incredible videos I’ve seen in quite some time. Apparently, it seems you can complete one of the castles in Super Mario World simply by not doing a damn thing. I wonder if the Nintendo crew who worked on the game did it completely on purpose. If so, then it took a couple of years for someone to finally figure out one of their secrets.

Too cool. Surprising this took so long. But I guess when you’re looking for a button combo, the last thing you would think about is not pressing anything. Kind of makes you think that the guy who figured this one out, did it by accident.
    Mom: Dinner’s ready !
Son: Aw mom ! I’m starting a new level !
Mom: Come up from the basement now or I’ll take that bloody game away for two weeks this time!
    Son: Alright ! Alright !
Half an hour later, son returns to man-cave, level is complete. Wha ???

  2. Mr. Sadistic says:

I thought this was just a “hacked” level? I saw another video with a level such as this with the same results.

  3. Joelteon7 says:

That…is just too cool. And if it were hacked, still, amazing job. I don’t think it was though.

  4. Person says:

It’s a hack or something, if you notice at the boss, when he dies, lava splashes up instead of water
    Still awesome

  5. Mike says:

It’s not real. You can’t use Yoshi in any of the castles. Still fun to watch, though.

  6. Chickentunapeanubutbuttersandiwch says:

It was a modeified level, … theres no castle like that with a yoshi just sitting in it, how dense ar eyou people.

  7. Daniel says:

@Chick: When was the last time you played Super Mario World? How are we supposed to recall if you can ride a Yoshi in the castle levels? I mean, I try to know as much about video games as possible, but you take “Hardcore Gamer” to a completely new, and rather sad level my friend.

    Go get some sun

  8. Jeff says:

holy crap that hack must have taken ages to make O.O!
    very well done

  9. xx-Thor-xx says:

lol its not too hard to remember the little scene where you hop off yoshi and the gate opens… i mean cmon it is one of the greatest games of all time. but anybody named chickentunapeanutbuttersandwich probably does need to go outside more often…

  10. Daniel says:

@Thor: Damn, you’re right about the hopping off Yoshi thing. As a way to make it up to you all, I will replay Super Mario World to brush up on my awareness of little things like that.

  11. xx-Thor-xx says:

good  dont forget to throw the controller at the screen repeatedly when you get to the star world bonus stages.

  12. James says:

This “hardcore gamer” put two and two together when within 3 seconds of the video Mario walks across a half-built bridge. You don’t have to have played the game recently (or at all,) to see that SOMETHING is odd with the video. Combine that with the Yoshi thing, the extra odd (more than usual) level design, and the boss fight that has treadmills all over the place, and there is NO WAY this could’ve been a real Mario level.

Thanks for pointing it out anyway, though. It’s still pretty cool. Check out the other ones on Youtube @ http://www.youtube.com/daigam

It`s completelly a fake!when yoshi starts appear in the castle from the nothing?? i recogonize that is great video, but not from the original game…

  14. DiggityDawg says:

I think “fake” is a bit harsh. Clearly these levels aren’t part of the main game. You can’t get Yoshi in a castle as others have pointed out, the bridge is missing a block, the level has note blocks that make no sense (other than for something like this) and I know that boss fight appears nowhere in the game.

That being said, I’m guessing somebody set out to create just such a level. Something that looks really hard, but is beaten without touching the controller. Taken that way, this video is actually quite impressive. I’m guessing the original author posted it with full context: “Hey check out the level I made” and it lost that context somewhere along the way. Probably when it went from a Japanese website to an English one.

    I reply.
I have Super Mario world right HERE….I’m just on that level, and it’s not possible to do this video, it’s modded. Not to mention that I noticed Yoshi buggers off on the castles…(What a bastard).

  16. amnesiac smw player says:

i did once use yoshi in the castles. it ate everything, including those giant spiky square things (i forget what you call them), but i can’t remember what code i used or what glitch i did to get it to happen again. i’ve been searching ever since. =(

  17. amnesiac smw player says:

it was prolly one of those have-yoshi-with-you-99%-of-the-time codes for game genie or something.
