Let’s talk good ideas. An example of a good idea is taking an acclaimed action movie director and getting him to make a game. An even better idea is releasing a version of that game that also contains one of that director’s best films. And that is exactly what Midway and Sony have decided to do with the collector’s edition of John Woo’s Stranglehold.

Thanks to the Blu-Ray disc (god, I never thought I hear myself utter those words), Midway is able to cram not only a full PS3-exclusive game, but also a full version of John Woo’s acclaimed action movie, Hard Boiled. So essentially, you can get a game that already looks pretty damn good along with a movie that is pretty damn good.

Hard Boiled is one of the most over-the-top crazy action movies I have ever seen. There’s maybe a half hour’s worth of footage in the whole movie where bullets aren’t flying. Throw in some crazy stunts and John Woo’s excellent directing style and this is definitely a must-see for action fans. Nice to see the Blu-Ray actually getting some benefits for a change.
