EA Games has named Steve Jablonsky as the man setting the musical tone for The Sims 3. Jablonsky was recently honored with a BMI Film Music Award for his contribution to The Transformers soundtrack. He also includes the soundtrack to Command and Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath in his repertoire.

Since Sims 3 is more of an open world rather than compartmentalized like its predecessors, mood music will go far to aid transitions between settings. Jablonsky designed thematic pieces that take their cue from the setting your Sims are in. For example you’ll hear beach music at the shore which will transition to more urban melodies as your Sims leave the beach to hit the city strips.

The Sims game is known for incorporating a thematic soundtrack for build mode with radio stations for live play often featuring real life hits preformed by the artists in “Simlish.” The music is fully customizable allowing players to turn off tracks as well as add their favorite MP3s to the radio stations. Fortunately this feature is also found in The Sims 3. The game takes customization a step further allowing players to customize their Sims’ tone of voice as well.

You’ll be able to hear Jablonsky’s work first hand when The Sims 3 launches December 15, 2009.
