With the August 20 release date for Stranglehold rapidly approaching, Midway has announced the minimum PC system requirements to run the title on their forum. Those of you PC gamers expecting to grab a copy of Stranglehold, prepare for shock and awe:

Windows XP SP2 / VISTA (Games for Windows compliant)
Dual Core Processor
2 Gigs of Ram
Nvidia 7800 or higher / ATI x1300 or higher
Disk space: 15 gigs

With these specs, PC gamers who planned to purchase Stranglehold may have to think twice or upgrade.
Personally I wouldn’t buy Stranglehold for the PC with these stats. If these are truly the minimum requirements, I shudder to think of what the recommended PC system requirements are. It would be cheaper to buy an Xbox 360 than upgrade even one of my systems to meet just these minimum requirements.

    I love you

  • Joelteon7 says:

The term "that's *something* ridiculous" springs to mind. 2 gigs ram? 15 gb's storage?! Not even Medieval TW 2 hit that mark! DC pro?! It almost makes the graphics card seem reasonable.

I hadn't heard of the game much, but now I definitely won't be getting it. Holy moly.

  • Peter says:

er… my post was supposed to say *hugs his ps3* I love you

    dunno what happened there

  • Ron says:

Good god, i have 80 Gigs of space on my computer so the storage wouldnt be a problem but the other things are ridiculous. 2 Gigs of Ram, ok. But a NVIDA 7800 or higher? thats expensive, not to mention a dual core proccessor. Count me out for this game.

  • Phil Migrowen says:

Shadowrun also requires a dual-core processor according to the box so this game isn't the first with that requirement.

  • Thor says:

Welcome to next gen, get new computers folks your 6600gts' arent gonna cut it anymore neither is that celeron d it took you 6 hours to overclock up to 3.4ghz.
Personally i cant wait to see the sys reqs for crysis, that oughta make people cry.

  • Norbit says:

I've already got 2gbs RAM and an X1900XTX but I've only got a single core Pentium 4 (it is running at 4.2ghz though  )

Thor said - "Personally I cant wait to see the sys reqs for crysis, that oughta make people cry."

The requirement that will annoy most people is that it will only look like the screenshots with Vista and a DX10 card. That's why I'm upgrading to a quad core DX10 monster at some point in the next year  My current rig is going to be stuffed into an HTPC case (a passively cooled mCubed HFX probably with a BluRay drive and relegated to the role of living room media centre.

  • Jetsetlemming says:

The system they've been running the Crysis demos on isn't even that l33t.
Uber minimum requirements is what's killing PC Gaming. Upgrading your machine to play modern games is far more expensive than a Xbox 360, Wii, or PS3. My $300 gaming rig can play games so good looking your eyes water without slowdown, such as Silent Hill 3 (1024×768 with moderate AA, 60+ FPS) and Far Cry (medium settings, 800×600 40 FPS). There's no reasonable excuse for the constant push to support only the latest and greatest. It doesn't make a goddamn lick of business sense.
And what, 15 GB!? Do they include the movie that's packed with the game in the goddamn required installation?

  • Norbit says:

"The system they've been running the Crysis demos on isn't even that l33t."

The Crysis demo at this years GDC was running on an Intel Quad core CPU with a Nvidia 8800 series DX10 GPU.

  • Dragon says:

Thank god I'm getting this for the 360 then, no need to upgrade to about £300 - £400 worth of PC parts for my shitty rig.

  • Ali The Gamer says:

the makers of Strangen hold ……Wat the ….
Dual core proceswsors……… They must have a deal with Intel core 2 duo
15 gb of hard More than Windows Vista

  • Ali The Gamer says:

Oh My God I can,t believe this Strangelhold gona be a big flop due to its requirements i have bought nx 6200 agp and i m glad to know Bioshock and crysis will run great on it and c0d 4 will also …….. i bet all the games will run on my computer
    i have p 4 3 ghz ht 80 gb hard 1 gb ram and nx6200

  • korn0413 says:

Was edited/stated that these are only the reqs for the unfinished engine. Minimum specs for the finalized engine should be lower. No worries here tho, quad-core 6600, 3 gigs ram, 8800 gts.

  • Imperius says:

Ali..I'm sorry to say that Bioshock will run horribly on a 6200 agp, Your paying attention to published system requirements..which is a mistake, And with only 1 gig of memory your putting a lot of undue strain on your CPU.

  • Null says:

 15gigs!? that's just hard drive abuse now :/ lol korn, i got almost same specs as u, quad core 6400-2 gigs ram-xfx 8800 gts-320gb seagate

  • Imperius says:

These specs have been proved false, it was an error made by an unapproved moderator over at their forums. THESE ARE UNTRUE.

  • Dray says:

Yeah, these requirements are false, although, that PROBABLY isn't too far off from what the max system requirements would be, but there's no way those are the minimum system requirements.

There are going to be some games coming out in the not too distant future that will make people's jaw drop. Alan Wake, for example, will probably require a quad core processor to run with all the eye candy maxed out.

  • GH0$T says:

Holy crap !! NO WAY are those the minimum system requirements !! I agree…someone's got em mixed up - REAL BAD ! These must be the recommended requirements to play this game. If it is indeed the minium, well then, goodbye Stranglehold !!! I have a Core 2 Duo proc. @ 2.16 GHz, 2 GB RAM & GeForce 7950 GTX 512 MB…but if those are the minimum, I'm sure the game's gonna look pretty gay AND run like a slideshow on my laptop !!

  • MARKYBOY says:

ELOO I READ WOT PEOPLE HAVE BEEN SAYING ABOUT crysis THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE GAME IS NOT SO BAD UNLIKE STRONGHOLD THERE GOING STUPID BUT IT LOOKS GOOD BUT THE REQUIREMENTS FOR CRYSISSystem Requirements
    Processor: Athlon 64 3000+/Intel 2.8ghz
    RAM: 768Mb/1Gb on Windows Vista
Video Memory: Nvidia 6600/X800GTO (SM 2.0)
    DVD Only?: 1
    Hard Drive Space: 6GB
Operating System: Windows XP / Windows Vista
    DirectX Version: DX9.0c / DX10
    Recommended System Requirements
    Processor: Dual-core CPU (Athlon X2/Pentium D)
    RAM: 1.5GB
Video Memory: Nvidia 7800GTX/ATI X1800XT (SM 3.0) or DX10 equivalent
    Hard Drive Space: 6GB
its excellent

  • MARKYBOY says:

GHOST M8 get rid of your LAPTOP there crap get a real computer you cant upgrade graphics and that with shit laptops

  • Jetsetlemming says:

Those aren't the proper requirements for Crysis. Crysis supports SM2.

  • Pelle says:

But come on, think about it. Haven't anyone been seing any gameplay movies? Think about the distructible environment for just a start  If you get that to run on a single core you would have to remove the environment completly, the cpu would burn ffs! And here is memory also a importat thing. Okey, the 15gb free diskspace sounds a little overkill. 6-8 would be accepteble, so I hope its a gameplay time of around 50h  Minimum is a little weard, but recommenden wouldn't surprise me at all. Tjo

  • somebody says:

You don't need a system that good. I downloaded the demo and it played fine with only a few minor stutters (only one playing through the hole demo)

    My system is

    amd athlon xp 2600+
    768 Mb DDR memory
    x1650pro

  • chyea says:

somebody has it right. I can run bioshock on my sempron 3400+ overclocked 1gig ram and a tweaked measley fx5500. damn kids these days learn to tweak your pc's already. I been doing it since win3.1 get with the game lol

  • Wyatt says:

Haha, I love how many kids automatically think that dual-core = Intel, especially since even a cursory glance at the site reveals that they're flaunting the AMD/ATi branding.

I think people need to get it in their heads that dual-cored and quad cored processors have been MAINSTREAM for a few years now- I don't know that single cores are even sold at retail anymore. If you know how to tweak (and there's no reason you shouldn't; it's not hard) then the minimum spec doesn't really mean anything, and if you don't you're about guaranteed to get a computer capable of running it from a processing and memory standpoint if you simply pick up the deal-of-the-day at any largish online retailer. A 7900GS is only $150 or so- no big deal for a machine that (should, unless you're incompetent) last you a good five years at least.

  • clint says:

 i think the requirements of Stranglehold are pretty high!!!!
    guys what ya think??
    my system spec is:
    "3.2GHZ Dual Core Processor,250GB & a 80GB SATA Hardisk,2GIG of DDR400MHZ RAM,1 Sony DVD writer & a LG DVD rom,500 WATTS Power Safe system PSU And Finally The LEADTEK GEFORCE 8800GTS 640MB of GDDR3 320BIT Memory."

well i feel my system will run this game well right???

  • Norishor says:

    Asus M2N32-SLI DELUXE
    Leadtek 8600 GTS TDH EXTREME 256 DDR3
    Is awsome !!!!

  • crowndroyal says:

you know i dont think the system requirements are all that much considering how far gaming has taken us in the last year. if you guys think that these rewuirements are high forget crisis and wait till assasins creed comes out. and it mentions dual core not core2 so its the first gen dual core processors that you need not the core 2 duo. AND THE 15 GB comes from all the short movies and that are played in the game. What would you expect from a game that was produced with John Woo.

  • Urbwolf says:

 I think its awsome next gen games are finally on the way. I have been building just for this Woot.

I've had no concerns running it at 1650×1080, settings are maxed, however I have yet to install on another rig, as far as demmanding 15 g's of HHD that's not unreasonable, as it was said consider the source, with each new title released the commitment for space needed grows, I supose we're just keeping up with the Jones's

    AWESOME GAME!!

I couldn't play this game at first because I only had 1GB of RAM. I recently upgraded to 2GB Crucial DDR2 and it runs fine!

    My hardware:

    Toshiba P100-188 Laptop
    Core 2 Duo @ 1.8Ghz, 1.8Ghz
    2GB Crucial DDR2 PC-4200
    GeForce Go 7600, 256MB

    Average FPS: 24

Even at those frames, the game is perfectly playable!

(Just though i'd mention, with the memory upgrade I now am able to run DOOM 3 at Ultra High settings with everything on and no problems! Same goes for Battlefield 2. Both run at 1024*768, setting on max, 2x antialising. Bioshock runs great on medium at 800*600)

  • reddragon says:

I am sorry, Urbwolf, but that machine u have build, won't last long with the evolution of games.

  • gamer_mk says:

hi there guys i think that Urbwolf has the best machine for now, and if you bought it when the parts came out at the end of last year then you made the right choice but if you bought the parts now you lose big time because your rig will be outdated quickly because in the 1q of next year there will be new gen of gpu and cpu, ddr3 will become standard and ddr 2 prices will drop the allready started dropping, usb 3.0, pci express 2.0, dx10.1 not supported by nvidia8xxx series and ati 2xxx series (the will support it but not fully), great new motherboards and etc. I think we should wait another year to buy the ultimate rig because now things are going crazy its just like when the win xp came out it the hardware went through the roof, by the way you cant really feel any new game now because if you want to really fell the game and all it has to offer you need to have a rig that will come out in the next 1/2 years so you can play the game at the max
anyway to play stranglehold all you need is just more ram 2 gigs that is this are my outdated specs. of my machine and i can run crysis with no problems but everything at low
    cpu amd atlon xp 2600+
    gpu sapphire x1550 256ddr2 agp
    mb abit nf7
memory 2 gig kingstone ddr 400
    psu gembird 450

any way this is the way i think things are right now this is just my opinion feel free to comment

  • noman says:
