Square senior vice president Michihiro Sasaki has declared that the company must increase its share of the US market, and that by doing so it could help drive overseas sales to 50% of overall revenue within three years.
“We need to seek co-operation with a US publisher – we need local content,” said Sasaki at the Tokyo Game Show.
“Our strength is in role-playing games and fantasy titles, so it is a bit difficult to appeal to the US market.”
Sasaki pointed to the fact that only 10-20% of Square Enix’s revenue is generated overseas. But, “within two to three years we want to make it half.” He praised the Wii and Nintendo for expanding the games industry’s market, while he commented that Square Enix was a “little worried” by the PlayStation 3’s performance thus far.
So… American games for Wii confirmed?

Alluded to surely, but not cemented. Square-Enix put it’s money on the Playstation 3, with Sony, who’s relation since the Playstation 1 has been quite positive, unfortunately both companies expect the trend of dominance to continue into this generation, that was a mistake. Luckily for Square-Enix, not all eggs were placed into the Playstation basket, there are Playstation Portable games, sure, but also Nintendo DS and Wii titles in the pipeline, such as the Crystal Chronicals games and a potential pair of NES/SNES->DS updates.
don’t forget the virtual console.
