Square Enix Knocks Sony’s Marketing of PlayStation 3

Sony has dealt with criticism from throughout the industry, and that trend is continuing. A Reuters story quotes Square Enix President Yoichi Wada as saying, “Sony first unveiled the PS3 as a mighty home electronics product. Then, after some badgering from game companies, it shifted the position of the console closer to a game machine … (the future of the PS3) would be tough if its marketing strategy is not straightened up.”
That’s a pretty hard lash from the president of a company developing one of the two major third-party PlayStation 3 exclusives, Final Fantasy XIII. Wada most certainly has a point, though, as the PlayStation 3 has yet to have a firm marketing plan put in place, leaving the average consumer wondering why exactly he should drop upwards of $500 on a PlayStation 3.

PS3 is ridiculous and Sony was incredably dumb thinking they had control of market. They just put as much expansive bust graphics tecnology on that box, didnt change anything or make any improvements and still does nothing about it. Ridiculous.
They shouldnt have released the PS3 at the same time as the Wii. They should have waited for more game companies to be ready to release big tittles and then reveal the console. Now Sony is relying on games to the marketing for them but no big tittle has yet caught the attention of the hoi polloi. They’re counting on the long run too much when people want results now. No ones going to buy your machine if it can’t do any cool tricks.

Here is a quote i read which think applies for the almighty Sony and their PS3 :
“Overconfidence – Before you attempt to beat the odds, be sure you could survive the odds beating you.”
It dont matter what they have done in the past, they are getting on track i hope. Christmas they will have lots of great games. But its the competition thats hurting them. Too much fancy technology in one system at Too much of a cost. The price is hurting them. The lack of sales is driving game developers away if they arent gonna get their value from the PS3 game sales now. lets hope people take the chance and they can survive the odds.
Will it get great games, though? 3 of the most anticipated and believed to be good exclusive games fell rather short of expected (admittedly, Heavenly Sword and the other one, think it was Warhawk, were rated decently, I don’t think quite as high as they were expected to be). I hope it does, very least for competition.
However, when you have one of your leading third party developers telling you off, it might be worth paying attention to them.
