Sony President May Not Be Telling Entire “Truth” About Price Drop Situation

The quotation marks around truth are there, because I believe that Ryoji Chubachi may not be telling the entire truth about the price drop rumors. Of course, spinning facts is common in the corporate world. They wouldn’t want to let the cat out of the bag too early. Various sources such as Kotaku with moles inside Circuit City claim that there is in fact legitimacy behind the claims that the price drop will be this month and the system will come down to $499. Other sources have claimed that the $499 price will also include several Blu-Ray movies for free with the purchase of a PS3. I have a hard time believing that this will not happen, considering a price drop is exactly what the Sony PS3 needs to get back on track.
I’m sure we’ll hear more from Chubachi in the near future. I definitely don’t mind, because his name is kind of fun to say. He sounds like a Star Wars character or something. I guess in a couple weeks, we will all know if this sale is truth or lies.

I dunno, people demand a price drop and think it’s an easy thing to pull off.
Production cost for the PS3 been estimated to be USD 805.85 for the 20 GB model and USD 840.35 for the 60 GB model. The high manufacturing costs mean that every unit is sold at a loss of approximately $250, contributing to Sony’s games division posting an operating loss of Â¥232.3 billion ($1.97 billion US) in the fiscal year ended March 2007.
Recently, Sony says that PS3 production cost is actually increasing.
And yet people demand a price cut?
well..personally I think the PS3 is worth the current price, but people claim they can’t afford it. I also think it’s wise from a business sense for Sony to deny the price cut I suppose. If the acknowledged it, no one would buy the system between now and the price cut date.
I can’t even think of a time in the distant future that I would ever need either HD DVD or BluRay. I have terabytes of NAS in my house and downloading high def movies is just about as quick as a trip to the old blockbuster or even worse waiting a day from Netflix. Seems all these formats are kind of a joke. The reason I have not bought a PS3 yet is because I don’t think $600 is a good value for a game machine. I have computers, a network, a Wii, and a 360. I get everything I need and that 2 console combo was only $50 more than a PS3. I am not saying I will never own one but I’ll probably wait until it hits around $250 or so. Maybe by then they will have some great exclusives. No machine in history has historically sold well above $250 not even the PS2. I got really geeked when MS announced the Elite but I held off because I’m on my 3rd 360 already but with a three year warranty I got excited again. Then I remembered I haven’t even filled my 20gig HDD and I got no problems with a VGA connection because I use professional monitors and HD projectors for my gaming anyway.
it looks like i was right about them spinning the facts after today’s news
