Some observers believe Sony may be considering another price drop for the PS3, possibly as soon as the Tokyo Game Show. Sony can accomplish this by cutting production costs on its premier game machine to make up for its losses last year.

According to a report in the Japanese financial daily Nikkei, Sony has entered in talks with Toshiba to sell the factory which produces the high performance cell chip that powers the PS3. Toshiba has a reputation an an company that excels in efficiency. If Toshiba takes over the factory, Sony could buy the chip more cheaply lowering the production cost of the PS3. A price drop may be good, each price drop makes the PS3 more intresting for Xboxlenny. It may be PS3lenny, but i doubt it. YA this is great news for PS3 fans and people thinking on getting one. I think toshiba has great efficentcy. This may lower costs.

I hope they dont let Toshiba handle the cooling of the PS3, it will over heat. Im the past Toshiba laptops have history of overheating. Im sure it wont be as bad as the Xbox 360. Great news for the PS3, id still rather the 60gb with the hardware PS2 chip, not software emulated. and yes the xbox 360 has software emulation aswell for those fanboys that may try to compare.

More recently the Toshiba laptops perform with cooling that far exceeds dell and HP standards. The satellite X205 laptop utilizes a very efficient design.

Anyway, if Toshiba does go through with this, it would be very interesting to see just what the cell processor will expand into. (Cell-P Laptops? Perhaps?)

Toshiba have just developed a new chip called SpursEngine which uses the cell technology and is intended for multimedia use.

    Mother fuckers

  7. Brent says:

Guranteed they’ll leave the cell alone and keep it to the PS3’s.
