Sony Ericsson PSP Phone Concept

Sony Ericsson patented a PSP phone concept a while back, proving that Sony had some interest in developing a PSP phone model. At the time, it was more than likely not a priority, but that’s starting to change.
Consumer interest in the idea has really increased lately and could force Sony to at least take a look at the idea again. The above image is a PSP phone concept created by a random internet user. Although Sony would probably never go with a design idea from someone random, if the idea catches on, they will have no choice but to consider the ideas flying around the internet.

Remember the Ngage! It was a bit of a failure. This though has a much better chance, what with a whole library of games. But why would people want to give up their PSP for one with a phone in when their phone is much smaller and they don't always take their PSP with them. However the games on that mobile would be the best ever.

i think a PSP phone would still be niche to a degree, but would be successful if they marketed it right and if the price was right.
I actually came close to purchasing an Ngage, but perhaps the time just wasn't right when that came out. I do think a PSP phone could compete with the likes of the iPhone as long as it had enough memory. The homebrew community could really make it a worthwhile investment with all the interesting aps that would come out for it.

I've just photoshopped up a design I would like for it. Basically a touch screen iphone type device with slide out wings at each end to convert it to a PSP.

That buttons has nothing similar to the standar playstation pad.

it is a yet another great idea by sony but maybe another failure by sony if they incorporate an internet application(non wi-fi but can get connection anywhere), a camera, mp3 and mp4 viewing with application to view these where you can search by artist genre album etc. unlike the original psp, touch screen for phone portion of device so the gaming portion has correctly positioned and spaced buttons, at least 8 GB memory hopefully more, and low price (dont pull an apple iphone on us and make the original price 500$) make it like 150$-200$, also create it with more slimmer parameters than the original gaming only psps so it is easy to fit into pocket andyou dont need a backpack to carry it, durable yet sleek. GO PSP PHONE.

I dont know, it looks a little cheap to me and aside from that to be able to fit all of the components from a psp and a cell phone would require a cell phone about the size of the original psp.

Warning: This is a novel-length response (not really, but it's not short). hmm, i like the idea of sony creating a phone that could be heavy competition with the iPhone, but not a PSP phone, that would never work. maybe they could add some sort of chat accessory to the already-existing psp, but if they want to make a phone that can beat the iPhone, it should be done right. therefore, if it's a phone, just don't make it say psp on it, since judging by this picture, it just looks like a high-tech game boy micro, with a phone built in.
and just to not copy apple, and realisticly reduce the price, instead of a touchscreen, make a slide-out number pad or somethin. that cheaper, and touchscreen phones are all-to-common & pushed on us now, so instead of bowing down to this touchscreen trend, sony would be doing itself a favor by not copying its competition's features (if it were to make a phone). overall, what i'm sayin is that a PSP is great for gaming & media, but making a phone with a PSP built-in isn't that original. To take down the iPhone, Sony, I recommend creating a phone. Still, though, continue the PSP line, if desired, but not like this. No touchscreen phones, please.

Seriously. If Sony is gonna make a cell phone, it shouldn't have anything to do with the PSP. The PSP is great and all, I play mine whenever I get the chance cuz it's the best, but a phone?
Nope, I would hate that, and I know several people that agree with me. Sony should create a NEW product to be their cell phone that will crush Apple to death. Let's face it, everyone, this idea will never get off the ground if it is a PSP. Besides, that would make it too expensive. And even if it does make it into the market, its fate will be no better than that of the ever-so poplular N-Gage.

it looks cool. but for me, thats not enough, considering ive already got a PSP and a mobile phone.
i also have to agree with jaime, just looks too distant from my PSP.
in fact, if you came accross this picture on a teaser poster or similer and it didnt have "psp" written over the screen, would you even guess it was a PSP phone?

truly this idea is dumb and too complicated . Sony all you need to make for the psp is user accounts and chat features like the PS3 has . i swear if that were to happen the PSP would be ultimate and you can drop this phone idea lol .

I actually have been working on a case modification for the PSP that would, if constructed under factory conditions, be about as large as an iPhone, be more versatile than the Wii, be more functional than the Blackberry, make complete use of technologies such as Bluetooth, USB, large-scale flash memory, and advancing battery technologies, play all PSP games, support output to standard make stereo headseats and RCA, have loads of marketable accessories (rather than the current 2 marketable accessories: a headset and a camera) and cost less than $300 per unit to manufacture.
Oh, and, with skype, it would be a phone that would work in lots of places. With a proper phone contract, it would be a phone that would work in even more places.

if you want a psp like thing that plays game plus has millions of homebrew games. look up the tapwave zodiac. they are currently out of production but you can get em on ebay. it beats psp anyday plus its cheaper…

I think this phone is an eventual inevitability. I often say that phone manufacturers are holding back the advancement of the devices they make to try and get a few extra years squeezing cash out of us but this phone I truly believe is beyond their capabilities. They could build it now but they would have to leave out so much that people demand in modern phones + battery life would be very short. However given time for technology to catch up this will happen. One of the things that probably stops it is also the psp. Sony won't want to endanger psp sales by offering an alternative that people will pick up free on contract. Give it 7 years, maybe less if we're really lucky and they will feed us this gadget. Build it and they shall come. For everyone that says it's a bad idea there are twenty that will say 'gimme gimme gimme, drool.' Don't push sony though, if they have to hurry it will be crap but let it some in its own time and it will be a revolution that will blow nokia out of the water.

This PSP is way beyond imagination with a phone and a gaming function.A combintion of a sony erricsson and a psp would be my choice.maybe it can a touch screen similar to the Nintendo DS!!!!!!!!hope it be in store soon!!!!!!!
