Sonic RPG Unveiled

BioWare’s RPG based on Sega’s Sonic the Hedgehog RPG for the Nintendo DS is on the cover of the latest Nintendo Power magazine. Somehow the lightning fast Sonic in a genre where gameplay is very deliberately paced seems somewhat out of place. However NP promises that Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood is a fusion of two unlikely elements combining to create something unique and compelling.
Both the familiar Sonic locals from games past and the new dark parallel world are rendered in 2-D, drawn by hand in vivid watercolors. Players will use the stylus to control gameplay, and will adventure with a team of Sonic and up to three of the eleven team members he can recruit. Each character has their own special ability and special attacks which develop as they level.
Combat shifts to 3-D. Battles are turned based with all combat options chosen for the team before the action begins to give players a sense of speed. However some real time elements are incorporated into fights; so that a well timed tap of the stylus will cause extra damage or status effects, similar to Elite Beat Agents. Select team members will be able to execute synergistic combo attacks as well.
The storyline seems solid, with side quests that help to flesh out the characters and the worlds they live in.
It seems that Sonic may be getting his first game worth looking forward to in a long time.

Maybe Bioware can inject some love back into the speedy blue blur and we’ll get more better games for it. Also, Bioware, Wii port please.
Yes, but a good Wii-port. Sonic and the Secret Rings was horrible… well, horrible is a pretty strong word… let’s just say the control was really bad.
Once you overcame the controls, ie. getting the new abilities that smoothed them out (a really stupid gameplay choice if you ask me, having to wait for the controls to be what they should be) and Secret Rings comes into its own. It’s a bloody hard game though, haven’t completed the final boss.
The Final Boss Fight is awesome. Dark Spines Sonic FTW!
sonic and the secret rings should have used the numchuck 2 walk c to time break and z to speed break a jump b atack/action
Um… Why is everyone talking about Sonic and the Secret Rings? This is about Sonic Chronicles…
Anyways, I’m looking forward to Sonic Chroniles. I’m a huge Sonic fan, so I won’t complain about the older games, but I do crave one that’s good enough to play two hours a day. ;3
