Sonic Appearing in Smash Bros. Brawl?

Rumors have been flying since the announcement of Smash Bros. Brawl that Sonic the Hedgehog would finally be joining the ranks of the popular fighting game. Unfortunately, it’s been hard to take them seriously since the same rumors cropped up for Smash Bros. Melee. However now it seems an EB Games in Woodbridge, NJ is displaying a pre-order ad for the game that shows Sonic standing shoulder to shoulder with Nintendo’s finest. The image also show Birdo from Super Mario Bros. 2 and K.K. Slider from Animal Crossing. A store employee was quick to point out that it’s just a mock-up for the game’s box art, but that looks pretty professional for something someone would’ve just slapped together. Usually these sorts of things look like cheap color print outs. And with Sonic and Mario already confirmed to be sharing the spotlight in a game based on the 2008 Olympics, this seems more plausible this time around.

Ever since Super Smash Bros. Brawl was announced, I think every SSB fan has been begging for Sonic to make an appearance. I think Nintendo would be insane if they didn't include Sonic in SSB, and yet feature a game with Sonic & Mario in an Olympics game.
Here's hoping Nintendo realizes this is what the fans want.

It's a fake. K.K. Slider only appears in the Animal Crossing stage as a background character. And the Samus image was pulled from the MP3 cover.

I can recognise most of the characters there from box art, wallpapers, trailers and such, so I can believe that it's a mock-up. Part of the hard-core Nintendo fan in me says they've sold out by considering putting Sonic the Hedgehog in Brawl, but I can see where they're coming from on a gameplay basis.

Agreed with Daniel 150%!
Just a few things to point out; they have an animal crossing map, so it'd be reasonable to accept that there would be a character from there (so that's included). The Sonic model is similar to the one in Secret Rings, bar the ring on his hand and the flames from his chest.
As for the art, get rid of the thumbnail's at the side, the main picture is too awesome.
I do hope Sonic is in this. Other than the fact everyone will want to chose him, because clearly, he'll rock, he…err, he just should! We all know in a straight fight, he'd whoop Mario!

Is it me or do I see Rayman in one of those side pic's as well… Im not to familiar w/ the games but ill be damned if those arent his eyes, nose, and part of his orange hair. (see pic 2nd from bottom left OR simply above fox and below kirby)

K.K. almost can't be the Animal Crossing character. My money is still on Nook for that…maybe if I'm right I can pay him off
Rayman will probably not be in it, either, and I do agree, that looks like him.
However, I would not at all be suprised to see Sonic in SSBB. Mario and Sonic are going to be together in the Olympics, after all, and Snake is going to be in it.
With the adventure mode annouced, it seems obvious that each character will have an enemy in the game. Mario has Bowser, for instance. With less, would it really suprise anyone to see Giygas? The Black Shadow for Captain Falcon? My there were a lot of rumors going around, and to be honest, it seems like some may be true.
Sonic, however, maybe not so much. Let's face it, if the adventure mode is specific to each character, it has to end with an enemy (Who has enemies in Animal Crossing, though?), and somehow, I just don't see Eggman fighting, though I suppose maybe Shadow could be a Sonic clone…
We'll have to wait and see. A lot of the characters are still yet to be annouced. I just don't put a lot of faith in that picture. I see at least 2 characters that have virtually no chance of being a character you can play, and Bowser looks like Baby Bowser (maybe a character, but I would hope Nintendo would make a "baby Bowser" one of his named children…)

and the picture is definitely a fake. it has to be >_> Sakurai said that 3rd party characters are going to be unlockables, so why would they be on the cover? plus the Samus model isn't even the same one used on the Dojo and neither is the DK one. also, Birdo and Petey? wtf?

@Necromancer: You're right. It's wrong for me to assume each and every person interested in SSB would want Sonic in this game. But, I can be same to assume that the majority of SSB fans want Sonic in this game. How many years have we all wondered who really would win in a fight, Sonic or Mario? This would be the perfect outlet to FINALLY put those questions to rest and not some Olympic game

Daniel, there's no way SSBB could EVER put an end to ANY who is stronger than who fight, unless the characters were weaker or stronger than some others. That would kinda destroy the whole thing though, wouldn't it? After all, the best part of SSBM is that each character is as good as the next (don't feel me that bull plop about Fox or Falco being the best, unless you want Pichu to beat you down).
Marc, as of right now, many of the characters are not on the dojo list. I would assume all old characters will still be in the game (such as Capt. Falcon, who has not been seen to my knowledge), and characters that have been shown and are not yet on the list will be there (I'm looking at Meta Knight), but, regardless, I don't even think all of the old characters have been confirmed, let alone all of the new ones!

At my local best buy they had some coupons they were giving out and one was to pre-order brawl and it had a picture of sonic on it. All the other characters were actually in Brawl though so it striked me as odd that sonic was the only out of place character on that coupon.

Gamestop places empty Wii boxes all around its store to make people think they have Wiis, so placing Sonic on the boxart of SSMB is not beneath them. Hell, this boxart is going to end up as yet another title on their shelves that they don't have available for sale.
It's also possible that Gamestop has created a version with Sonic so that if Sonic is announced they can get the fake box art out immediately. News outlets will prepare webpages devoted to the deaths of prominate individuals so that in the case of a death they are ready to go. This has led to some embarrassing moments as these pages are sometimes leaked to the public.

Yes I have litterally been a Sonic fan since I was 5 months of age, because my uncle had a dreamcast and barrowed Sonic adventure from his friend and let me play it.Sorry, a little off topic.There are supposed to be 2-3 3rd party characters.Solid Snake is 1, and I'm sure Sonic will be another.I highly doubt that Rayman will be in it,But it does look like him on the case.Petey Pirrahna is on the game, as a bad guy, I don't think he will be a playable character though.Meta Knight is a playable character.Also Pokemon fans like myself will love this, a playable pokemon trainer character is confirmed, he has the pokemon squirtle ,Ivysaur, and Charizard(all playable, you are the pokemon not the trainer, 3 for the price of 1!)

First off it's been clarified as a mock cover so thats why their character pics are from different games. Secondly you can't say none of the characters on the side will be in brawl or not because petey was recently confirmed (playable or not I don't know but I hope not because the game is called smash bros not smash mario)Thirdy I doubt kk is playable as he apears in the background of a stage. and finally Daniel does have a very good point, even those who hate Sonic would still want Sonic in brawl just to beat him up! I think we should stop labelling every picture of sonic that we see as a fake, and try to be a bit more open minded.
Ps: to inconspicuous person, DR Wright is a character from an old snes game called sim city which is now on virtual console

He's so stupid and ugly. His games are boring (well, the later ones are)

yeah, if i were in charge of the marketing of this game, and Sonic was in it, i'd hold off on announcing that until it was almost release time. then, people who were on the fence on whether to buy it or not would be more likely to get into a fervor and impulse buy it.

if sonic isn't already in the game he wont be at all, but come on, look at all the proof, I know a guy who hates nintendo (he's a real xbox fanboy) and even he wants sonic in the game. If he found out how much people want sonic in the game, then its posible for anyone hear abot it, be it Yuii Naka or mr sakurai. It would be a shame for nintendo and sega to throw away an opportunity like this.

There is no way Nintendo and Sega would be stupid enough to not have Sonic playable in Brawl. Besides it's getting close to December so the game could be in testing for bugs before it ships so if they haven't said anything yet then Sonic is probably in the game. So I'd have to say that if Sonic is in Brawl then would hold off announcing him until like the middle/end of November so that the whole world goes crazy and on release day Brawl gets sold out due to the sheer amount of people wanting to put Sonic against Mario.

considering brawl isn't suposed to come out in places like the uk till early 2008 this is a good theory. Think about it; when the rest of the world finds out that sonic is suposed to be in the game it would increase there anticipation and force them to sit on their money until the games release.
Like I've been doing for a year and a bit…
Ps. Lucas is in the game, I think he's replacing ness aswell, although he'd probably have a similar moveset.

Not that I hate Espio or anything. I really like him though honestly in terms of popularity(as far I as know) Shadow is ranked higher than Espio. I mean Shadow got his game though Espio didn't. So yeah if Nintendo allowed a clone character of Sonic, then it would be Shadow. Though Shadow wouldn't be a clone exactly. He could have a moveset similar to Mewtwo's from Melee.
