platinum trophy So Long, 2.4! Welcome to Another PS3 Firmware Update Now with Less Bricking

Get ready to sit through yet another PS3 firmware update (if you landed the 2.4 update before it was pulled down, that is). After bricking a number of consoles last week, Sony has released the v2.41 firmware update which should make things work nicely without making your XMB disappear.

Hi, everyone. As many of you know, we released PS3 firmware update v2.40 last week, but had to take it offline temporarily because, for a limited number of users, the XMB wouldn’t display after the update was installed. We’ve been able to fix the problem, and I’m happy to report that firmware update v2.41 will be released shortly.

We want to extend our apologies to the PlayStation community for any inconvenience. Now we’ll be looking forward to seeing everyone online and racking up those trophies!

For those of you who, like me, didn’t encounter any problems, you will find a very small change — the platinum trophy has been slightly changed, as you can see above, courtesy of Kotaku.

    they finally come out with “achievments” and it fails anyways and they have to fix it.

  2. Handisnacks says:

    OMG 2.40 didn’t “brick” anything, stop fucking spreading lies. It simply corrupted data on the hard drive for a small amount of individuals. If you format the drive it boots up fine wit the 2.40 firmware.

    Corrupt data != bricking
    RROD = bricking (lol)

  3. Foo says:

    I have yet to have a 360 update that I had to re-format the HD. And before ya jump all over me, I have a PS3 and Wii too.

  4. Neoseeker says:

    yes.. A 360 update that requires a reformat *cough* rrod *cough* (like this, only it happens alot more, and without an update :) )

    Hmm, not considering you can actually fix the console without having to pay 100 dollars to get microsoft to fix it?

    Don’t think rrod can’t happen to you, it just did to me, i immediately switched to ps3 afterwards. My 360 is currently gathering dust.

  5. True pro says:

    Neoseeker what the hell are you even talking about? RROD is a free fix. You’re a fucking idiot and a goddamned liar. You’re a PS3 fanboy who LIED just to make it seem that you HAVE a 360, which you clearly don’t, you fucking ass-clown piece of shit. The 360 is the fucking future..and even with RROD, it’s making MS money.. The Shitstation can’t claim that, LOL!

    LOL!

    LOL!

    LOL!

    L O L!!

  6. plz die says:

    You are both fanboys. Please die.

  7. EmulationSensation says:

    Agreed.
    And… “Corrupt data != bricking”

    What? How? If it requires a reformat, how the hell is that not bricking?

  8. Sk8man says:

    @ EmulationSensation,

    I’ll try and explain this and if I get it wrong anyone is free to correct me:
    The term “bricking” is defined by a massive failure be it harware or software that renders the device absolutely useless and broken for ever(hence the word “brick”) Now, if a firmware update corrupts some save data and the solution requires a reformat then it is not “bricking” it is merely a problem that can be fixed (once a brick is a brick, there is no going back) If the problem can be fixed and the user can go on using the device then there is no “bricking” taking place. Clear enough for everyone?

    Oh and ya, I don’t think fanboys should die, but they do need to have their mouths and fingers super glued together.
