Last week, Jonathan pointed out a rumor that Skype was coming to the PlayStation Portable, according to certain material regarding this year’s CES. Turns out this is, in fact, true, as Sony confirmed the news to Gamasutra today.
Later this month, a firmware update will be released that will allow you to make both free and premium calls through the popular Voice over IP service. Anyone using Skype on a PC will be able to be called for free from your PSP. Additionally, through the use of Skype credit, you’ll be able to make calls to landlines and mobile phones (SkypeOut), as well as receive calls (SkypeIn).
Very cool stuff. The number of uses for your PSP continue to rise.
