sid meier photo Sid Meier Exploring Future Civilization MMOSid Meier, the “Father of PC Gaming” recently answered ten questions for GameDaily. One of the exciting revelations from the Q&A is that Firaxis is looking into developing a Civilization MMO.

I’m exploring lots of exciting ideas right now. A Civ MMO is a really intriguing idea and we’re spending time thinking about how we could make it the fun addictive experience Civ players expect.

Personally, I think Civ would make a great MMO. It would definitely be different from the masses of MMORPG clones out there. I can imagine it would also be a lot of work to maintain an evolving persistent world.

The article also covers one of my favorite subjects, video games used as more than just entertainment. Meier talks a bit about History teachers that are using Civ in their classrooms. For more information on Civ in education, Firaxis.com has a forum called the Educator’s Exchange for teachers using the game in the classroom.
