Shadowrun: “Server Has Left The Game”

If you are familiar with this phrase, you are obviously someone who plays a bit of Shadowrun. Although the game completely lacks and kind of story mode or really any kind of depth outside multiplayer, I have still said nothing but positive things about the experience. One thing that is finally getting on my nerves is the that too often the game host simply quits in the middle of things. Shadowrun is really a game where most people play for achievements and I am convinced that is why so many people who are host will simply quit if things aren’t going their way.   There really should be a way for developers to update this game and set it up to where when a host quits, the game picks off where it left off and chooses a new host. The most irritating thing about the host dropping is that all stats are lost for the match and you you had the stats going for an achievement, you can forget about that too.
To keep this game alive for much longer, there are a few drastic changes needed. For starters, statistics tracking is absolutely necessary. They need to fix the problems with hosts dropping in the middle of matches. Finally, I would like to eventually see either more maps or a downloadable mission version. I still view the game in positive light right now, but the negative aspects are slowly but surely chopping my patience down.  The hosts leaving is not a minor issue either. I’d say this has happened to me in approximately 20-30% of the games I play. Shadowrun will fade into obscurity after Halo 3 is released if they do not fix some of these basic issues.

Amen to that.
I would never play a multi-player shooter where that can happen.
well first of all the host is chosen at random, so you never know who the host is unless its a private match….they also didnt add leaderboards and stat trackers because it prevents cheating, people will still boost to get achievements, but no1 will boost to be the best like in halo, gears, socom, and all the other online games
I can think of a few other headachs, How about the longest load and connect to game times I have ever seen in any game. I was on the other night and decided to time it, it took 7 minutes for the game to find and connect to a game. it usualy takes about 2:30 to do this but it seems to be taking longer and longer.
Some ingame changes I would love to make would be taking healing away from elfs and giving it to Trolls. The elf is the fastest most agile character, trolls are slow big targets, which do you think needs self healing more?
more skills for more buttons. 3 is not enough, even just one more would make a big difference.
Let us know who is the host.
Maybe in a future version it will allow for a host to set up a game such as is done in Rainbow 6, where you can tailor which weapons can be used in a match.
even with all the flaws it is still a hell of a fun game. looking forward to new maps.
Eddie, I have to agree. If it was a terrible game, I wouldn’t be playing it still… but I do think they absolutely need to fix some issues.
nick, i disagree with stack tracking being eliminated to prevent cheating. If that were they case, they could have set it up so you can view just your own stats. People are starting to cheat on the game anyway. I don’t mind the random host, but there needs to be a way to continue the game when a host drops, instead of how it is now and you lose everything.
I’m not sure if the author is entirely correct, maybe some of you can confirm or deny. Author statement: “The most irritating thing about the host dropping is that all stats are lost for the match and you you had the stats going for an achievement, you can forget about that too.”
I could swear I have got an acheivment after the host drops and I still get a win or loss based on rounds finished.
Shadowrun is a great game and unlike any online shooter I have played. That said it does need additional patching and can be frustrating at times.
please fix these problems i dont want to see this game fade away it has to much potential
Same for most other games too, Ive played GRAW 2 and Rainbow six vegas and many more other types. For rainbow six its about ranking up.
Ive sometimes seen the hosts team loose, so they up and quit, Its just tells how petty the person is who does that. They are selfish and only care for points/ranking up. It happens many games im sure, some people are just sore loosers i guess.
I guess a dedicated server would take care of that, but i dont mind it, it dont happen often. there is always lots of other rooms to join. Some rooms i see regular hosts, if they are a bad host in the past, avoid them.
