For those of you who missed it, the demo for Shadowrun is now available on Xbox Live. The 1.1 GB demo gives you access to a few training missions, AI ‘bot’ battles, and online play. While the demo only has two races, and a truncated tech tree, players can get a feel for how the full version plays.

As for my personal impressions? Well, the demo certainly gives a small idea of how the game actually plays. What you need to realize is that the negative reviews for Shadowrun have little to do with the actual base mechanics. The problems reviewers have is the cost/quantity ratio of the title. If Microsoft had released Shadowrun as a Live Arcade title for say, 25 bucks, then the reviews would be substantially better. As it stands, there is just not enough content in the game to warrant a 60 dollar purchase.

So, play the demo. The game is really pretty fun. The graphics are top notch, the mechanics are interesting, now if only Microsoft would drop the price about 20 bucks…
