This is great, finally other game genres are picking up decent voice acting.

But...

I disagree that this is so eventful in the gaming world.

Look at classic point and click adventure games from Lucasarts, or even Sierra Entertainment.

They all had FANTASTIC voice acting, WAY before games like Mass Effect.

Don't get me wrong, I love the fact that game developers are actually taking some time to think about driving a story line along with decent voice acting, I just think that a few more developers need to get into gear and look at what worked a few years ago in gaming and pull the lovable elements from other gaming styles to enthrall a new generation of gamers.

Honestly... I picked up Mass Effect on a whim while doing late night grocery shopping and let me tell you, I don't regret it in the slightest. Adam's view of the gameplay hearkening you to being the director seems spot on. I was astonished at the way the voice acting, story and overall feel of the game took me by surprise, and wouldn't let go.

I hadn't had a gameplay experience since... well, the only thing I can think to compare it with is a combined feeling of picking up Grand Theft Auto 3 for the first time and really having total control over everything. Albeit Mass Effect is a bit more railed than Grand Theft Auto 3, I still felt like I was controlling everything, even when I truly wasn't.

I'm surprised Adam didn't mention the look of the game, or the UI, but that maybe because the UI is fairly intuitive (though the inventory system could use work) and the game just LOOKS gorgeous. It has it's drawbacks (I hate elevators now) and only glitched on me once through my first 32hr playthrough (I did just about everything, on 'good' side), but it was such a minor thing, that I really didn't have an issue with it. Also, when you finish the game, you actually feel like you accomplished something... I haven't felt that way about a game in a long time.

Glad to see Adam liked it. I think some reviewers bashed it just to get attention.

I really like it, I did not spend anytime analyzing textures, but I will go back and waste my time so i can downgrade this game and forget about the story and how great it played out, the gorgeous cutscenes and all that fuss.

I agree, the voice acting was superb, however the graphics were less than stellar all the low res textures make it easy to fit great audio onto the disc.

I loved the voice acting in Mass Effect. And it's absolutely mind boggling how they could fit all the voices onto a single disc.
