Sessler’s Soapbox: Bad Fortune

G4 TV’s resident ranter, Adam Sessler returns to his soapbox this week to take Fortune Magazine to task.

You might recall that earlier this week we mentioned Fortune’s ‘101 Dumbest Moments in Business’ for 2007. Sony managed to make the list twice, once for their beheaded goat at the God of War event, and once for the use of Manchester Cathedral in Resistance: Fall of Man and the resulting fallout from the Church of England.

Sessler makes an excellent point when he says that Fortune has little to no understanding of the gaming industry. Besides, what was so bad about the two incidents? The use of Manchester Cathedral was well within UK copyright law, as we reported at the time. I think the whole stink was that the church made such a brouhaha out of the situation. As far as the beheaded goat goes, everyone acted like Sony chopped its head off at the event, and that wasn’t the case.

At any rate, Sony has gotten a lot of bad press this year, but I really agree with Adam that this is probably a little undeserved. What do you think?

Thanks, G4 TV!
