In March 2007, the free-to-play MMO Second Life attracted 1.3 million users, up 46% from January.
If you’re still living in a cave, and haven’t heard of Second Life, it’s a virtual world created by Linden Labs.
Players can create their own avatar to interact with other users, they can build homes, get jobs, and earn Linden dollars. The interesting thing is that you can buy Linden dollars with real money, and if you accumulate Linden Dollars, you can change them back into real dollars.
Second Life’s website shows over 6 million total users, with 1.7 million having logged in over the last 60 days.
I have actually tried out SL, and as a social platform, it’s outstanding. What strikes me as odd is that I know people who make a pretty darn good living as merchants in SL. See, they create clothing, skins, and other things. They sell them in game for Linden dollars, which they then turn back into real dollars. I personally know someone who makes well over $60,000 in this fashion.
It makes me wonder why I have this job, if I could make 50 grand a year in SL. Wait, I suck at Photoshop. That’s why.

Second life is great game to interact, although you really have to be careful with young ones in the room while playing, this game is for sure based on the adult community. I personally have played little over 24 hours of this game, and can say that there a wide range of people and groups. You definitely will not feel lonely in this game.
