At the Capcom Gamer’s Day in London, attendees not only got to get hands on with some great new titles, they were also shown mini-trailers of soon to be released games. I have included three of these trailers in one post to make it easier on you.
The first one, as you can see, is the Devil May Cry 4 trailer which features more of the same hard-rocking, acrobatic and bullet-ridden cinematics you have become accustomed to with the Devil May Cry franchise. The trailer is a minute long, thus my reasoning for calling it a mini-trailer.
The Second trailer, posted after the break, is another one-minute trailer featuring footage of the upcoming Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles. Personally, I think I am going to skip this game and instead wait on RE5 to come out sometime next year or the next year or the year after that. Who knows with the RE games, they push them back so much that one starts to get a little jaded. However, if it produces a quality product it will be more than worth the wait.
The third, and last trailer I have posted here (again after the break) is the new Zak & Wiki: Quest for Barbaro’s Treasure which is a Wii exclusive. Games like this are usually not my cup of tea, however this one looks pretty damn cute and is something children of all ages can enjoy no matter if they are 10, 20, or 85.
DMC4 will be released for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 in January 2008.
RE: The Umbrella Chronicles will be released on November 13th for the Wii and you can use the Wii Zapper with it.
Zak & Wiki: Quest for Barabaro’s Treasure will be available for the Wii on October 23rd.
Check out more trailers after the break.

At the recent Tokyo Game Show, Capcom shared a new trailer for its upcoming apocalyptic zombie survival horror game for the Nintendo Wii console, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles. From the trailer it seems the protagonists of many of the previous Resident Evil games are coincidently brought together towards a common goal: survival. Rebecca Chambers, Billy Coen, Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, & Carlos Oliveira (and possibly others) are all characters from previous Resident Evil games as presented in the trailer. Whether this is Capcom’s blatant attempt to draw Resident Evil fans in on character names alone, I don’t know. One thing is for certain, there is an element of “cheese” returning in this new Resident Evil title. Something that I personally thought gave the original Resident Evil game its charm. Perhaps Resident Evil is getting back to its roots with Umbrella Chronicles? Again, I don’t know. I have yet to play the game.
Things I do know: The above trailer is your typical game trailer splicing cut scenes from the game with a few morsels of actual gameplay. The gameplay of Umbrella Chronicles is still built around a rail-shooter standard. Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles will be one of several upcoming titles supporting the Wii Zapper, which itself debuts sometime in mid-November. Because Umbrella Chronicle’s design is primarily around the Wii-mote and Wii Zapper, it will most likely stay exclusive to the Wii console.
Resident Evil fans in the U.S. will get to play “to the end of Umbrella” on November 13th, 2007.

Nintendo has confirmed that Link’s Crossbow Training and the Wii Zapper will be released in Europe before the end of the year. Unveiled at E3 2007, the peripheral will be available to purchase separately or with the game which is basically a shooting gallery title.
In the future Ghost Squad,Medal of Honor: Heroes 2, and Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles will be Zapper compatible according to Nintendo. The Wii Zapper is expected to hit North America retailers on November 19th for 19.95, but European price have yet to be confirmed.
The Wii Zapper has had its share of controversy in the past few months leading up to this announcement. For more information on this new gadget for the Wii, check out our previous posts.

Nintendo is pleased to announce DS Lite sales have hit the 700k mark and are still climbing in Australia, while the Wii continues to “perform well”.
Director of sales and marketing Rose Lappin also announced a sales line up for the remainder of the year which is guaranteed to push those figures higher still.
“This promises to be one of the most exciting times for the video game industry, I cannot remember a time when there were so many quality titles released that delivered to everyone.”
The Aussies are still waiting for Big Brain Academy and Metroid 3: Corruption which have done very well in the US and Europe as well as The Legend of Zelda:Phantom Hourglass, Super Mario Galaxy and Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles.
Nintendo’s success in this region reinforces the strong sales figures generated in both hardware and software on a global scale at this time.

Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles combines first-person, light-gun style combat with interactive pathways, multiple weapons and new enemies for this Wii exclusive. This action/shooter hybrid reveals the back story behind the fall of the Umbrella Corporation by exploring locations from Resident Evil 0, 1, 2 and 3 as well as new never-before-seen locations, such as Umbrella’s stronghold. For more information on this anticipated title, check out my previous post from June, and to see the official trailer check out Daniel’s post. Let us all hope that this new title is less craptastic than Outbreak, although I am worried about the fps aspect of the game – I guess we will find out November 17th.

For all of you who thought you were going to get Mario Kart Wii in your stocking, you’ll be sad to know that it’s just not going to happen.
Apparently, Nintendo told ComputerandVideoGames.com that they are saving Mario Kart for the doldrums of the post-Christmas Season period where new titles around that time of year are traditionally scarce.
“For the holidays we have a huge line-up of Wii games already, including Metroid Prime 3 Corruption, Super Mario Galaxy, Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles and Pokémon Battle Revolution. Fans will not be hurting for great games to play,” Nintendo told CVG.
Apparently, though, Nintendo is in part just responding to fans who complain that there are no new games to play for the first quarter. And it’s true–usually game developers do blow their wad for the holidays, because obviously it’s the best chance to push sales.
Maybe we can pretend this is just a good thing.

Capcom has
announced that they intend to make a big appearance at this year’s Comic-Con, much bigger than at E3 even. Their booth will have a number of game stations set up to play Zack & Wiki, Harvey Birdman, Mega Man Star Force, Mega Man ZX Advent, Ace Attorney, Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, Rocketmen, Moto GP, Devil May Cry 4, and Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles. There will also be a store to purchase lots of Capcom goodies, some of which will be bundled with some free stuff as well. But the main attraction of their booth will probably be the large boxing ring, which will be used for Lost Planet and Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix tournaments, the EVO finals, and performances by several Nercore rappers.
So pretty much Capcom is making up for the lack of spectacle at E3. It should be a big attraction to convention goers.

Ryan and I just returned from the Nintendo Press Conference. The company had a hard road to hoe catching up to last year’s presentations but President and Chief Operating Officer Reggie Fils-Aime kicked everything off with a nice overview of Nintendo’s changing impact on game demographics.
Statistics he cited showed an amazing growth in the non-traditional markets of men and women 25 and over as well as the septuagenarians (old folks) in the audience. This was nothing surprising to anyone that has been following the Wii’s explosion in the market.
Nintendo did move on from the numbers to introduce a new Wii accessory – the Wii Zapper. The Zapper is a cradle for the Wiimote and nunchuk controller that turns it into a light gun setup. The company emphasized its interest in making the Wii a premiere platform for FPS games and used EA’s Custom Medal of Honor Wii, Capcom’s RE: Umbrella Chronicles and SEGA’s Ghost Squad. The accessory will launch later this year with a Nintendo designed game (Duck Hunt Wii anyone?) for $19.99.

Next we got to see updated impressions of Legend of Zelda on the DS, Metroid Prime 3, and Super Smash Bros Brawl. All look good and the news that Super Mario Galaxy would hit shelves December 3rd 2007 seemed a bit disappointing since it falls late in the Christmas buying season.
Mario Cart Wii and a Wiimote racing wheel will be bundled and Nintendo claimed to be doing online play but we all failed to notice. I’m not sure Reggie and I have the same definition of online play. There is a new channel launching- Check Mii Out, meant for sharing, searching and rating Miis from around the world.
The previous news is all fine but the big push of the entire event was on expanding the Wii into a new space with Wii Fit. This exercise and wellness program is bundled with a two step weight pad that gamers will stand on to perform exercises like Yoga moves and mini-games like soccer ball blocking and a half-baked DDR clone.
Nintendo has had a great year so far and the titles they showed in their event were interesting but the move to become a holistic device attractive to all comers may in many cases put off the long time fans. As more and more Brain Age type titles and Wii Fit products hit the market gamers might become concerned that Nintendo doesn’t care about them as much and is looking to pander to the “normals”- despite the fact they very well could be doing what the industry needs to move forward.
