Most gamers running Space Siege hopefully won’t have a clue what I’m talking about when I say Sega has issued a DVD Recognition Fix. For those unlucky enough to have had a drive running under Windows Vista SP1 reject your disc, you’re troubles should be at an end. The Space Siege – DVD Recognition Fix should take care of your problem.
To implement the fix, follow these steps:
1. Find your current SpaceSiege.exe in the Program Files folder and rename it to SpaceSiegeOLD.exe
2. Download this patch and unzip it in a temporary folder of your choice.
3. Put the new version SpaceSiege.exe into the same directory as the old one.
4. Launch Game.
One final note for Space Siege players, if you haven’t run into this problem don’t install the fix.

Sega’s third Space Siege developer diary deals with the classic trade off off high tech enhancements for humanity. For each cyber upgrade you have installed on you character, say an eye for enhanced vision or a cybernetic limb, you lose a little piece of your soul.
Cyber Psychosis is by no means a new idea. It wasn’t even new when I was playing the original Cyberpunk P&P RPG. It only makes sense that the less you have in common with ordinary humans the less you can relate to them. Daniel Achterman, Lead Game Designer for Space Siege, describes how the concept is worked into game mechanics.

What a week it has been for major patches and downloadable content! Mass Effect patches and Bring Down the Sky – very cool, the Space Siege and Legend Hand of God demos were all pretty popular as well.
But what of the demos and patches that did not make “headline news” on Gaming Today? Well, that is what this weekly post tries to remedy, and while some of the content is not particularly mainstream, it at least deserves a look. Otherwise you may be missing out on something you never thought you would be interested in the first place.
Without further ado, here are some of the demos that hit FileFront this week:
- Supernova 2: Spacewar v1.0.3 Windows: Supernova 2: Spacewar is a sci-fi strategy game featuring a main part mainly based on the macromanagement of your space empire, and a classical turn based wargame part when a fight occurs. You’ll have to manage carefully your resources, balancing several aspects like researching new technologies, training better troops, raising the people loyalty in your empire, and building the ultimate fleet to conquer the galaxy!
- Time of War v1.2: Oniric Games has released a playable demo of Time of War that includes two playable levels from the full game. Time of War is an old school 3rd person shooter focused on relentless action and addictive gameplay, with hundreds of enemies to combat, a vast arsenal at the player’s disposal and explosions everywhere.
- Reign of Swords v1.5.0 PC: In Reign of Swords, you are a newly made knight in the service of the Emperor. By reclaiming the imperial kingdoms of Carrone, you will be granted titles of nobility and even crowned King should your service be of the highest caliber. Reign of Swords is a collectibles multiplayer battle game for your mobile device. It is the first entry in Punch’s Mobile Battles series for multiplayer gaming-on-the-go. How to Install: Unzip the file and run the included Setup.exe to install Reign of Swords on your Windows PC.
- Arvoch Conflict v1.828: StarWraith 3D Games has released an updated demo for Arvoch Conflict, a squad-based 3D space combat simulator featuring elements of real-time strategy, resource management, and Dogfight, Squadrons, and Cooperative combat multiplayer modes.
Here are some of the patches that arrived this week:The Guild 2 v1.4 , IC: Children of the Nile v1.3.0.1 US and Guild 2: Pirates of The European Seas v2.1.
There are plenty more demos and patches on FileFront that hit this week. You can get them by clicking here and here.
See you next week.

Along with the new demo that was just released, Gas Powered Games has also unveiled this new video with creator, Chris Taylor, discussing their newest title, Space Siege. As you can imagine, the developers basically started with the core gameplay of their previous hit, Dungeon Siege, and then reworked it into a sci-fi setting. The game is mostly about action, but they did include many RPG elements and a special cybernetics system. Basically, the game’s story and difficulty will change depending on how much you choose to enhance your character with cybernetics. If you want to know more about the game, you should definitely check out the demo for it here.

We got word that nVidia would have a demo for Space Siege on their site last week, and sure enough they posted the demo yesterday. However, you don’t have to go to the nVidia site to get the demo, because we have it right here for you on FileFront.
Space Sige is the upcoming sci-fi RPG from Gas Powered Games for the PC that takes place in the confines of the Armstrong, one of the few remaining colonization ships carrying the last bastions of human civilization after a devastating attack on Earth from an unknown alien race. Players will take the role of Seth Walker, a robotics specialist suddenly thrust into a struggle to save humanity from extermination. As the adventure progresses Seth is offered opportunities to sacrifice pieces of his humanity for cybernetic upgrades that will assist him in his mission to preserve the human race. But what price will he pay to save his own humanity? Only the player can decide Seth’s ultimate fate.
To get the demo, just hit the pretty little badge below. Let us know what you think of it.
Space Siege is expected to hit retail on August 19th.

Supposedly a demo for Space Siege , the sci-fi action RPG from Gas Powered Games, will land on nVidia’s NZone in 4 days and 10 hours as of this post, if a counter on the site is to be any indication.
Space Siege takes place in the confines of the Armstrong, one of the few remaining colonization ships carrying the last bastions of human civilization after a devastating attack on Earth from an unknown alien race. But what price will he pay to save his own humanity? Only the player can decide Seth’s ultimate fate.
Space Siege features a storyline based upon the decisions the player makes throughout the course of the game. Based upon the cybernetic modifications the player chooses to make on Seth’s body, NPC’s will react and interact with the player differently and, ultimately, different story resolutions will be reached. Space Siege will feature a separate immersive co-op multiplayer mode allowing up to four players to create and experience a completely unique mission structure.
The game is slated to be made available for the PC on August 22nd and is to be published by SEGA. For more Space Siege, check out our previous posts.

It has been one crazy week, and the craziest thing happening at home base while Jonathan and Shawn were in LA was the amount of assets we received in our inboxes on a daily basis. I have decided to post the lonely screens and trailers that did not get their very own post into one large post full of links. There’s just is not enough time to post them all, so this is the best way I know how.
While this is not a comprehensive list of what was not covered, it is close. There are more screens floating around out there that we have yet to get, but if or when we do, we will do our best to wow you with them.
Below you will find a list of games from A-N and a link to the trailer or screens for it. Be sure to look over the list carefully, because something you are interested in may be included. I have highlighted ones that may be of special interest.

This probably the largest press release I have ever seen – or at least since I have been at Gaming Today. Normally they are pretty much short, to the point, and padded with overly positive and glowing quotes regarding just how fabulous the announcement is to them or how wonderful it is to work with so and so.
I wonder if we will ever get a press release that includes quotes from people who hated to work with one another? For example: “Bob was drunk all the time and kept playing grab-ass with all the female employees” or “John was such a tyrant that I wanted to spit in his tall-quadruple-half-caff-light-foam-latte with soy milk every morning. God I hated that guy” or “Pete stunk so bad that even after I got home of the evening I could taste cabbage in the air – even in my apartment”.
Anyway, this press release is more or less a massive list of upcoming titles from EA and its studios which will be released around the holidays and into next year. These titles will also be showcased at E3 next week with the initial press conference being hosted by CEO John Riccitiello, will also spotlight many of the creative leaders behind the games.
The complete line-up of titles on display at E3 are as follows:
- Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3
- Crysis Warhead
- Dead Space
- FaceBreaker
- Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
- HASBRO FAMILY GAME NIGHT
- iPhone/iPod Touch Games from EA Mobile
- iPod Games from EA Mobile
- Left 4 Dead
- LITTLEST PET SHOP
- Madden NFL 09
- Mercenaries 2: World in Flames
- Mirror’s Edge
- Mobile Phone Games from EA Mobile
- Mobile, iPhone & iPod titles
- MySims Kingdom for the Wii and Nintendo DS
- MySims, made for the PC
- NBA LIVE 09
- NCAA FOOTBALL 09
- Rock Band 2
- SimCity Creator for the Wii
- Skate It
- Spore
- The Lord of the Ring: Conquest
- The Sims 2 Apartment Pets for the Nintendo DS
- Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 09
- Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 09 for the PSP
- Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning
- Zubo
For the full press release including more information on each title listed, as well as the prerequisite “sweet as honey” quotes from EA’s John Riccitiello and John Pleasants, read on after the jump.

One gamer has had it with the whole vicious cycle of hacking, slashing, looting and shopping in RPGs and MMORPGs. This is one element that can’t be avoided in games like Diablo and Diablo II, Titan Quest and legions of other RPGs. Whole new means of travel have been invented to deal with limited storage space of adventurers.
You should be saving the world from demons, but no, you’re mucking about with spreadsheets so that you’ve got space for an extra pair of bracers.
And Portals! I mean… These are worlds capable of incredible teleportation magic, the ability to travel instantly over miles of land, and what’s it used for? Shopping. Not banishing evil or revolutionising society or sticking one hand through so you can wave to your mum from the other side of the world. Just. Shopping.
Then there’s the whole effort to allow characters to pay for more storage slots or to expand the amount of loot a character can carry with more accessories. Many developers have tried to alleviate this rather large pain in the butt. However their efforts usually fall short or just bring more attention to this glaring flaw.
No-one actually tries to do anything about it. Instead we get painkillers such as Dungeon Siege’s mule or Dungeon Runners’ Bling Gnome. They’re there to ease the burden of constant space-shortage, but in a way they just emphasize what a ridiculous, mechanical system it is. When a game offers its players so extreme a fix as a Gnome that can eat loot on the spot and crap out gold, it’s a pretty clear sign that a critical element of the game isn’t as fun as it could be.
I don’t know whether to laugh about this article or not considering it’s oh so true.

Gas Powered Games’ boss Chris Taylor recently clarified his comments on Dungeon Siege 3 with CVG. Although he has said they would apply what they learned from Space Siege to Dungeon Siege, there aren’t any plans in place for a new title.
Taylor told CVG, “When asked if we were considering taking lessons learned from Space Siege back into the Dungeon Siege series, the answer was, yes.”
“We have not made any official announcements, or have any official plans, but we are kicking ideas around, and that’s no secret,” he said.
I love the Dungeon Siege series but I think its time has actually passed. I’d like to see them enhance it rather than crank out another carbon copy game based on Diablo.
