nice teeth

Every week, Gaming Today brings you a list of all the demos and patches that have hit FileFront during the past seven days. Usually, if it is a major demo or patch we do an individual post on it because we feel it will be of special interest to our readers. However, big name games are not the only files worth mentioning and that is why we provide you with this weekly feature.

This week though, we are trying to consolidate the post by providing you with the demos and patches that have proved to be the most popular during the week–this way, you are not bombarded with loads of links to weed through. You can always view the full list for both demos and patches via FileFront, but this way we are saving you just a bit more time and also giving our readers a bit of insight into the minds of other gamers. It’s kind of scary what you see when you peak in there isn’t it?

Here are the most popular demos for the week:

  • Strategic Command: WWII Pacific Theater: This demo includes three turn limited (1 game year each) playable campaigns: 1941 Operation Z is the main theatre campaign that starts on December 7, 1941 with the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor followed by landings and advancement in South East Asia including Hong Kong, Bangkok, Singapore, and the Dutch East Indies–1945 Operation Detachment was the United States capture of the island of Iwo Jima from Japan, producing some of the fiercest fighting in the Pacific Campaign of World War II.
  • War Plan Pacific: Shrapnel Games has released a demo for War Plan Pacific, a turn-based computer war game for one or two players covering the entire war in the Pacific from 1941 until 1945.
  • X-Motor Racing v1.11: Exotypos has released a new version of the X-Motor Racing v1.11 and the demo.
  • RotoAdventures – 2 Chapters (Mac) (Windows) : From an enchanted forest to cybernetic mines and from school to a cursed castle, you will fight to survive and rejoin once again with your beloved owner. Only move a small nut to guide Momo thru its entire life choosing between the dark and bright side.
  • Project Aftermath v1.1 Demo: Indie game developers Games Faction has released and updated demo of Project Aftermath, an arcade RTS game where you command up to four squads of soldiers in battles in a retro-futuristic world.
  • Jutland: Storm Eagle Studios has released a playable demo for Jutland. The JUTLAND Demo Edition features unlimited play of two Demo scenarios, including the multiplayer feature. An additional 17 scenarios can be previewed and played for 10 minutes while using the Demo Edition. These include 3 Jutland Scenarios.
  • Legendary: Spark Unlimited’s FPS Legendary: The Box presents a world suddenly thrust into chaos and turmoil when ancient creatures of myth are unleashed into modern day society, and it is up to you, as the cause of it all, to stop it all.

Patches are listed after the jump.

There’s a new video podcast with an objective look at Ubisoft’s Shaun White Snowboarding up on ChannelFlip.

Comedian Eddie Izzard says in his Dressed to Kill tour, “…there’s only two positions in snowboarding. One is looking cool; the second is DEAD!” For gamers who want to get into some extreme winter sports without losing life and limb or freezing bits off, this looks like it could be a good compromise. Get an idea of how the videogame measures up to the great expectations set by Shaun White’s reputation as podcast host Katharine Fletcher reviews Shaun White Snowboarding on the Xbox 360.

Ubisoft to Help the Hearing Impaired Enjoy Gaming Too

180px logo ubisoft Ubisoft to Help the Hearing Impaired Enjoy Gaming TooUbisoft is in the process of giving all in-house games a subtitle options in order to allow the hearing impaired to enjoy gaming more. The first games to sport this new feature will be Far Cry 2, Prince of Persia and Shaun White Snowboarding. In order to do this, they will be modifying all in-house gaming engines and try to introduce the subtitle option into games that are already currently in development.

“This commitment entails modifications to some of our game engines, as well as the inclusion of subtitles in the conception phase of game development,” stated the company.

You may recall that Ubisoft was crucified for not making Assassin’s Creed with subtitles when it came out, bit it looks as though they do not plan on making the same mistake again – and that is a great thing. All gamers, no matter what their handicaps should be able to enjoy a game just as much as the rest of us.

The company has also announced Handigo: The Game, which was created in partnership with the charity  Handicap International. Part of the charity’s new “Ability Together” campaign, the game is to help the public  understand the difficulties that disabled people face day to day. It was created free-of-charge by Ubisoft, and includes three mini-games featuring a different handicap and helping the user learn to tell the difference between certain disabilities and the obstacles a person with restrictions face on a daily basis while living their lives.

E3 2008: Nintendo Conference – Shawn’s Take

Nintendo had a lot of things to announce, but lets be frank.. only one of the properties gamers were hoping for really materialized.. Animal Crossing for the Wii and that game looked exactly like it did on the Gamecube. While I’m a big fan of the social interaction of the Animal Crossing series, I was hoping that Nintendo’s implementation on the Wii would be a little more earth-shaking.

Unfortunately they’ve played conservative yet again and we’re basically getting the DS version of the game with an auction house. The core obstacle that holds this back from being a good idea is the conceit that Nintendo seems to have regarding the safety and ease of use of their inane friend code online system. I guess I may be the only person left who hasn’t imbibed the Kool-aid on this one.

Ubidays is a great event. Not only is it thrown by a very nifty publisher/developer, but they even have the foresight to hold in a venue that is even more cool and artistic than the games they are showing off – the Louvre. So, what pieces of gaming art were shown off at the Ubidays event yesterday? Many a screenshot and trailer were debuted with their respective games throughout the day, but why go looking for them all over the internet when you can get them all in one place?

Here is a small round up of screens released yesterday:

shaunwhitesb Ubisoft Brings Back Action Sports with Shaun White Snowboarding

Ubisoft has announced the development of an action sports title they promise will redefine the genre; Shaun White Snowboarding. The Olympic Gold Medalist and eight-time X Games Gold Medalist, collaborated with Ubisoft to create an open world experience where players can race, trace paths through virgin snow, pull off tricks or have snowball fights with their friends.

Shaun White Snowboarding will turn all of the traditional ideas and experiences of past action sports titles upside down, said Tony Key, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Ubisoft. The combination of Ubisofts innovation approach and the influence of Shauns lifestyle and perspective make this gaming experience like no other.

The Xbox 360 and PS3 versions are built on the Assassin’s Creed Engine and are fully physics driven. The Wii version of the game has been designed from the ground up using the Wii Balance Board and features its own storyline. Full details of the key features for each platform are listed after the break. Read the full article
