This patch adds windows 7 compatibility to the UK English version of Sacred 2, as well as updating a number of quests, placing a cap on the number of runes that can be used, and other updates.

This launch trailer for Dragon Age: Origins takes a look into a quest in search of the Sacred Ashes, where danger awaits the band of warriors in the glacial, jagged edges of a treacherous mountainside.
It’s time for PVP superhero action with 5 championship rounds of intense fights. These combatants faceoff for a chance at immortal glory in this feature.
Ascaron and Deep Silver had a rough year with the launch of their action RPG Sacred 2 on the PC and consoles and some pretty bad financial problems afterward. Despite initial bugs on all the platforms, this math heavy Diablo-like title really managed to charm me with its quirky characters, often hilarious quest and NPC comments and the wide open game world.
Well, scouring the world for interesting news led me to an obscure and not well covered announcement for an upcoming expansion for the PC. It seems that Sacred 2: Ice & Blood will continue the adventures in the world of Ancaria with some new settings and most importantly a new character class – the Dragonmage.
There are not a lot of details coming out of the publishers at this point, including if the release will be seen in America as well as Europe this fall, but frankly I’m still interested. Sacred 2 was one of the best Diablo 2 clones I’ve played in years next to Iron Lore’s Titan Quest games. More details as they become available, check out the preview screens after the jump.
I’m not usually one to litter the site with “This Game has Shipped!” announcements but the news that the console conversion of CDV/Ascaron’s Sacred 2 is out gives me a good opportunity to talk a little about the game and sing its praises to our readers here at Gaming Today.
So.. first the news:
Sacred 2 will be in stores soon. Its available for the Xbox 360, PS3 and Windows PC platforms. It will retail for around $50 US and you should consider buying it, the folks at CDV would really like that. (Ascaron might also if it hadn’t gone belly up the same day the game went gold – poor developers.)
Now, to the reason why I recommend Sacred 2: Simply, Sacred 2 is like Diablo II on crack after its gone out and finished its Masters degree in Mathematics.
Kill stuff, get loot, power up, kill more stuff. You know the basic formula.. but add in hot hi-tech angels, undead champions and robot dogs to the character list and you have a game that will hold over action RPG fanatics until the eventual release of Diablo III for every system known to man – probably iPhone as well.
Initially Sacred 2 can be a bit intimidating – there is a lot to grasp beyond shooting stuff and collecting loot but the conversion from PC game to Console title went very smoothly for this title. Simply equip a skill or weapon, map it to one of the controller buttons and go to town. Earn upgrades, equip loot, learn new magic powers and go forth to purge the enemies of your character. The game features two main campaigns and each of the character classes has a unique starting point that leads players to wander the world of Ancaria in search of action, adventure and T-energy.
The Console version also supports co-op and online multiplayer too so there is no need to venture out alone. While the game features a lot of generic “step and fetch” quests every once in a while you’ll run across some seriously funny quests that poke fun at the conventions of action RPGs and fantasy games in general. The comments of the characters as they die also should not be missed.
If you’re looking for some great insight into why Sacred 2 is worth your time you can read through Tom Chick’s Sacred 2 Game Diaries over at Fidgit.com. Tom speaks a good deal about the problems that plagued the PC version but also manages to capture the fun of Sacred 2 that I share.
Just when gamers thought they had squeezed all the goodness from Gears of War 2, Epic Games targets players on All Fronts. This GW2 collection includes all previously released DLC; the Combustible, Flashback, and Snowblind map packs; and introduces the new Dark Corners map pack.
Dark Corners offers multi-player fans seven fresh battlegrounds to test their mettle. The bundle also includes a chapter cut from the original GW2 taking players back to Locust Hollow with Mutt and Dom. Throw in a poster, a custom Xbox Live theme, and a strategy guide and you’ve got a fairly good buy for your hard earned cash. One last enticement is a preview of “Road to Ruin,” the latest project from the man formerly known as “Cliffy B.” Seriously is there a symbol for that? Whatever you want to call him, Cliff Bleszinski rocks the gaming world.
Look for the Gears of War 2: All Fronts Collection to hit retailers July 28th. You can lay out a cool $19.99 for the bundle or purchase just the Dark Corners map pack for 1,600 Microsoft Points on the Xbox Live marketplace.
Details on the new Dark Corners maps follow the break.
Sacred 2 is one of those games that has ardent fans and loud opponents. Its action-RPG gameplay is reminiscent of the great and venerated Diablo series but its just different enough that Diablo fans often rail against it. For my enjoyment I find the game a fun multiplayer diversion on the Pc and the only game that ever let me play as a cybernetic dog with a plasma cannon arm.. so its a winner with me.
The announcement that Sacred 2 was coming to the consoles was surprising but welcome. Now instead of cranking up my laptop I could look forward to sitting on the couch, projector fired up with the 360 wading through crowds of enemies while working to save the Blind Guardian concert from certain ruin. Sacred 2 for the 360 and PS3 is due to hit retail next week so CDV, the publisher, is cranking out the press and videos to build up excitement. The latest video highlights yet another reason to get “syked”: 4-player cooperative gameplay. I’ll say that again: 4-player co-op!
Matchmaking and multiplayer on the PC version was a mess at first, but I can easily see hopping into a console game with friends in my cyber-dog alter ego. You’ll find the co-op trailer to help build your excitement to Shawn-like levels after the jump. Oh and I’ve included the Blind Guardian video as well just to show how awesome they are.. nothing like progressive metal bands in a faux fantasy game I tell ya!
Ascaron and Deep Silver announced an extensive content update today for Sacred 2: Fallen Angel which includes the beta version of the Sacred 2 network. The holiday update (620 MB) can be downloaded by hitting the badge below.
The update is packed with new features such as new armor, a brand new snow region, 20 new opponents and and some new weapons. In addition, a new series of quests provide a special set of armor specifically designed to get you into the festive spirit. Naturally, many game details were improved as well but details on what they are were not listed with the patch notes we received.
The first beta version of the Sacred 2 network includes a ladder and highscore ranking system allowing you to compare your own performance to that of other community members. You can even win ranks and orders, and legendary characters are immortalized in a Heroes’ Cemetery and a Hall of Fame. You can also use the social network to create your own profile then contact other users, make new friends, or arrange some multiplayer sessions.
The patch and content will be loaded into your game via the auto-update feature when the game is launched – or like mentioned above, you can get it by hitting the badge. You can also check out the screens of the holiday content here on the FileFront game page.
Electronic Arts is being targeted by another class-action law suit over the DRM included with Spore, SecuROM. This time, California resident Alex McQuown is hoping to use Spore to take down SecuROM once and for all.
The grievances listed in Alex McQuown’s class-action suit against EA are much the same as the other suits with three big differences. His lawyers at Finkelstein Thompson claim that SecuROM damages computers costing consumer time and money to repair the havoc caused by its installation. The suit also asserts that EA has needlessly caused its customers grief. The figures prove that piracy of games that carry SecuROM has risen dramatically. The biggest difference in McQuown’s suit is that he invites every U.S. citizen that has purchased an EA product with SecuROM to join the class. Read the full article
