A title like that doesn’t write itself very often, so I’m happy to take advantage. The new Rocketmen expansion pack, It Came From Uranus, is now available on the PlayStation Store. You’ll also now find two new Hot Shots Golf characters, each of which cost $.99, and are small enough that I reckon they’re already on the Blu-ray disc you hold in your hands.

Rounding out the DLC scene is this week’s installment of Rock Band tracks and 21 new Karaoke Revolution: American Idol tracks.

You’ll also find demos of both Dragon Ball Z: Burst Limit and Overlord Raising Hell, new videos, trailers, themes, and wallpapers.

Hit the break to see all of the today’s new content.

Rocketmen: It Came from Uranus Trailer

Submitted for your approval are the new screens and trailer for the Rocketmen: Axis of Evil expansion It Came From Uranus. I have looked online, have looked at the Capcom website, and have read numerous game stats and press releases on this game, and I still cannot figure out if the actual title of the damn thing is It Came from YOUR Uranus or It Came From Uranus. It is being called both by numerous sources so pardon me for being confused. In the end I guess it does not really matter, both titles are a play on words of sort and no matter what title is accurate, you will either like the game or you won’t.

You can expect the expansion to hit next week for both the PS3 and 360.

Rocketmen: Axis of Evil
Developer
: A.C.R.O.N.Y.M Games
Publisher: Capcom
Price: $9.99
Platform: Xbox 360, PS3
Category: Arcade Shooter
ESRB Rating: E10+ for Everyone Ages 10 and older (Fantasy Violence, Mild Suggestive Themes)
Release Date: March 5, 2008

One of the highlights of last years E3 for me was my trip to visit and interview the folks at Capcom about their upcoming games. I was jazzed about the upcoming Harvey Birdman game, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles looked like it was going to resurrect the arcade rail-shooter on the last platform I’d have expected and the Street Fighter II ultimate hand-drawn coolness edition was in the works. One of the titles that flew somewhat under the radar at the time was the Xbox Live! arcade game Rocketmen : Axis of Evil. I even wrote a quick preview of it during our E3 coverage.

Even the PR guy who politely showed me around did not have any clue what the game was based on so I guess he was surprised when I mentioned that the title was an interesting choice for a license built around a constructible card game where ship-to-ship combat was the main focus. Instead of the Star Control-like  melee I would have expected instead I was watching someone grind through a swarm of burly Martians in a Smash TV-like top down shooter.

XBLA Wednesday 3/5: Rocketmen: Axis of Evil

Posted by Chris on Wednesday, March 5th, 2008 at 9:30 am under Capcom, Game Companies, Game Consoles, Game Platforms, Games, Microsoft

rocketmen.jpg

The lone Xbox Live Arcade release this week is the action game Rocketmen: Axis of Evil. It is, like so many other XBLA games, a shooter, but it looks to set itself apart from the competition with an actual storyline and its pretty, cel-shaded graphics. The Xbox.com description:

Join Nick Sion, Alec Mink and the Alliance of Free Planets in their white-knuckled, frenzied struggle to free the Solar System from the tyrannical grip of the Legion of Terra! Rocketmen®: Axis of Evil provides non-stop multiplayer action with role-playing game elements, including customizable characters and an engaging story, all wrapped in the game’s distinctive cel-shaded art style. Play with up to four players in co-op mode and blast anything that moves.

  • Customize your character: Create, customize, and level up your own individual Rocketmen characters with new items, abilities, and looks.
  • Multiplayer action: Join with friends to save the galaxy in four-player cooperative play locally or online.
  • Your choice: Choose from three races: Human, Mercurian, or Venusian, and from three classes: Warrior, Engineer, or Outcast.
  • Explosive action: Simple, addictive, and highly explosive gameplay blasts onto your TV in high-definition with plenty of levels, hordes of enemies, and lots of fun.

The game is releasing tomorrow on the PlayStation Store. The game costs 800 Microsoft Points ($10) and is available now.

I’m personally willing to give the game a shot since it’s trying to do something different, albeit in a shooter package.

Capcom Has 15 Projects in the Works and Needs Help

Posted by Jonathan on Monday, March 3rd, 2008 at 9:15 pm under Capcom, Game Companies, Games Industry

capcomjobs1-1.jpgHave you ever heard the phrase, “Too many cooks spoil the broth?” Well those cooks never had to create a video game apparently. Capcom has posted on their blog that they’ve got 15 different projects in the works, so they’re looking to add more people to their staff to help them out. They’re hoping to attract people who have been involved with AAA titles in the past and are tired of working for huge conglomerates. Of those 15 project though, only seven have actually been announced though:

We’ve got 15 different projects cooking right now (and more to come) – many that have been announced like Dark Void, Street Fighter 2 HD Remix, Commando 3, Rocketmen, Talisman, MotoGP, Okami Wii, and many more titles that haven’t even been announced. Yet.

Seems like Street Fighter IV should be added to that list. Still, that does make me curious about just what Capcom else Capcom could be up to these days.

Unless you were waiting for the specific Guitar Hero or Rock Band tracks that were released this week, chances are you’ll find this a rather unexciting Store update. PAIN owners will be able to download a new character, the Scurv Dogg, for $0.99. There’s also the usual assortment of videos, a new theme, and some wallpapers.

Also, to anyone who has purchased Rock Band DLC: check the list after the break to see if updated song versions are available. These will properly categorize the songs under the correct genre tag. Read the full article

Capcom Reveals New Games and More at Gamer's Day in London

capcom gamers day

After announcing the return of Street Fighter with a fourth installment its recent Gamer’s Day in London, Capcom is on a roll with a handful of new IP titles and ports of existing software. One of the new titles announced was Dark Void, an action title developed by Airtight Games, but like the Street Fighter IV announcement, extra details such as which platform or release dates were not forthcoming.

Capcom announced also that with their shift towards becoming more multiplatform, the critically acclaimed PS2 title Okami will be coming to the Wii, and the Xbox 360 hit Lost Planet will arrive on the PS3 early next year.

Also revealed was Talisman for XBL Arcade and PSN, based on the popular Games Workshop board game, which joins Rocketmen, Commando 3 and Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix on Capcom’s list of forthcoming downloadable games.

Gamer’s Day attendees were also privy to demonstrations of Bionic Commando, and got to get hands-on with Devil May Cry 4, Zack and Wiki, and Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles. and The DS exclusive Ace Attorney: Apollo Justice and Capcom’s first-ever sports title We Love Golf, were also available for a hands on experience.

I have posted the Gamer’s Day trailers for RE: The Umbrella Chronicles and, Zak and Wiki, and DMC4 here.

Capcom Has Big Plans for Comic-Con

Posted by Jonathan on Thursday, July 19th, 2007 at 7:50 pm under Capcom, Games Industry

capcom-logo-color.jpg

Capcom has announced that they intend to make a big appearance at this year’s Comic-Con, much bigger than at E3 even. Their booth will have a number of game stations set up to play Zack & Wiki, Harvey Birdman, Mega Man Star Force, Mega Man ZX Advent, Ace Attorney, Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, Rocketmen, Moto GP, Devil May Cry 4, and Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles. There will also be a store to purchase lots of Capcom goodies, some of which will be bundled with some free stuff as well. But the main attraction of their booth will probably be the large boxing ring, which will be used for Lost Planet and Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix tournaments, the EVO finals, and performances by several Nercore rappers.

So pretty much Capcom is making up for the lack of spectacle at E3. It should be a big attraction to convention goers.

E3 2007: Rocketmen: Axis of Evil Hands On

Posted by Shawn on Friday, July 13th, 2007 at 7:07 pm under Capcom, E3 2007, Game Consoles, Hands On, Microsoft, Sony

rocketmen.jpg

Based on the popular Rocketmen constructible card game by Wizkids, Capcom is bringing the property to the download services of both the Xbox 360 and Playstation Network. Unlike the tabletop property its based on however the game is far more like a comic update of Smash TV or Zombies Ate My Neighbor. We had some great hands on with the title and it offers traditional four way control as well as the thumb stick based control like its arcade predecessors.

Character customization was fun, players can choose male or female characters as well as the various races of the property. Up to four players cooperatively shoot, kick and beat their way through each level competing for the most kills and creds.

The title is expected to hit consoles Fall 2007.

One helpful individual over at the Playstation Forums has compiled a list of all the PS3 games that have been confirmed for E3 2007. It should be noted that more titles may be added as E3 draws close; these are just the ones that have been put into the schedule. It’s also interesting to note that the only PS3 exclusives are the ones coming directly from Sony. You can view the full list after the break. Read the full article

Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix Coming Next Month

Posted by Daniel on Thursday, June 14th, 2007 at 4:08 pm under Capcom, Microsoft, Sony

puzzlefighterhd.jpg

According to the Capcom’s blog, it seems we could expect Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix to hit the Playstation Network & Xbox Live Arcade next month.

For those of you who may be unaware, Capcom announced a couple of months ago they will be performing a huge graphical and other gameplay updates to four Capcom games which will be made available on the PSN & XBLA.  The four games receiving the upgrade are Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo, Super Street Fighter II Turbo, Rocketmen: Axis of Evil, and Talisman.  The games will support full 1080p resolution, include online play, and will bring these old-school classic Capcom games into the next-gen age.

I personally can’t wait until Super Puzzle Fighter is made available because it’s been one Capcom game which has really been underrated, but the fun factor and challenge of the game really make it a worthwhile release.
