If you know anything about NIS America, you know the majority of their titles up until now have been mostly RPG-style games on Sony systems. Late last year though, NIS America revealed they were working on a puzzle game for the Nintendo DS which pretty much are two things they aren’t known for. If you’re a fan of NIS America’s humorous Disgaea series and love simple, yet complex puzzle games, then check out my impressions of Puchi Puchi Virus after the break.

In Nintendo, Nintendo
NIS America has announced that the Puchi Puchi Virus release for the Nintendo DS has been rescheduled to Spring of 2008. Puchi Puchi Virus is NIS America’s firs DS game and an experimenttal leap into casual gaming. NIS still plans to develop primarily RPG /SRPG titles as they have become well-known for those genres. We look forward to the release of Puchi Puchi Virus, which should be an extremely interesting game. We wrote about the title last month here.

In Nintendo
NIS America has decided to enter the realm of casual Nintendo DS gaming. Their first DS title will be Puchi Puchi Virus which should hit shelves in February. Puchi Puchi Virus is a puzzle game. Some speculation may arise that NIS is dipping out of the SRPG/RPG genre, but this isn’t the case. According to their marketing coordinator, they will still be releasing RPG games, but decided to “spread their wings into more light and casual games” as well.
Unlike most puzzle games, Puchi Puchi Virus does not use the played out “object drop” system. This puzzle game uses more of an intuitive object linkage method which should really be refreshing for fans of puzzle games. It has been described as “simple, yet surprisingly in-depth”. We look forward to this title making it’s way to North America in the near future. The above image is from the Asian version of the game. We will post screen-shots here in the near future when they become available to us.
