Crystal Dynamics is threatening to bring out the big guns after a leak of a memo and concept art on Tomb Raider 9 Sunday morning. The new game is a prequel featuring a much younger and less experienced Lara Croft than the one in the screen above. Four Player Co-op has taken down the contraband media but the article remains.
“Say hello to the concept art for the new Tomb Raider reboot. Our mole, deep behind enemy lines (and armed only with his digital camera), woke me up at 2 in the morning to deliver you these goods. I haven’t had a chance to fully digest the information here (getting it to you as quickly as possible was my paramount concern) but it seems like the new Tomb Raider will be, wait for it, Open World. Looks like the combat system has been completely revamped and that the story is starting over from Jumpstreet. I have no idea what the story is with the clawed… things… but, out of everything, they excite me the most. More screens through the portal.
Update: We all knew it was coming, it was just a matter of when. Crystal Dynamics’ lawyers swooped in with a fancy email asking us to take the pics down. We will be discussing the whole ordeal on this weeks Bullshot! (link opens in iTunes) which we are recording tonight. It will probably show up in your iTunes early Sunday morning. Thanks to Kotaku, Joystiq, 1up, and others for picking the story up. It’s been a hell of a day.”
The original Tomb Raider concept art is still on display at Gamersyde for the moment. Get it while its hot.

This week’s Rock Band Unplugged DLC is quite an eccentric mix with a little of everything from Stevie Ray Vaughan to the Dixie Chicks. All offerings are master tracks from the original artists. Harmonix is throwing in the song used as the end credits of Portal, “Still Alive” by Joathan Coulton as sung by GLaDOS, as a free download.
Tracks:
Dixie Chicks “Sin Wagon”
GLaDOS and Jonathan Coulton “Still Alive”
The Pixies “Here Comes Your Man”
R.E.M. “Losing My Religion”
Stevie Ray Vaughan “Pride and Joy”
All tracks, except for “Still Alive” which is free, are available for purchase for $1.99 each on the in-game Rock Band Unplugged music store.
As an aside, if you like “Still Alive” I highly recommend checking out Jonathan Coulton’s website. He specializes in comedic songs based on videogames and gaming culture. Some of our family favorite are “Re: Your Brains“, “Creepy Doll” and “Code Monkey“. A dedicated fan and World of Warcraft player, Mike Spiff Booth has made a whole series of very funny and well done WoW machinima to Coulton’s songs.

I’m not one of those gamers who hates the casual game market, in fact I think its the lifeblood of gaming these days – my kids for example are for more likely to be found playing mini-games on AddictingGames.com or Gaia or any of the billion casual flash game portals than they are to fire up their favorite console games. The casual game industry has insinuated itself into the hearts and minds of every generation from toddler to elder and quite a lot of gaming is happening in browsers these days.
Well, it seems Nickelodeon, the children’s network that hosts such moments of TV gold as iCarly and Drake and Josh, has decided the time has come to produce yet another video-game award show – AddictingGames Showdown.
On July 27th at 8:00 Eastern Time they will offer a web centric special highlighting a number of web and casual games. The show is touted to be a live convergence event featuring one of the cast of the aforementioned iCarly show – Jerry Trainor. Trainor will host the event and present the insightful categotries, many o f which are obviously designed to reflect the young audiences’ sense of fun over technical art. The sneaked categories include gems like “Best Performance by a Monkey” and “Most Courageous Stick Figure Stunt”.
Personally I’m not sure we need yet another gaming oriented awards show, let alone one witht he Nickelodeon flair but it is interesting to see the network segregating casual games away from the traditional console offerings that dominate most gaming events. Also how valid would an “award show” be in any other industry if it was say the “Paramount Pictures Academy Award”?
AddictingGames.com has a vested interest in attracting new players not to the casual market as a whole.. so I’ll be surprised if this is anything more than a coordinated marketing event for the website and Nickelodeon.

Valve has been hard at work on a new Team Fortress 2 patch, which should be going live within a few days time. This is not only good news for PC users, but for those who purchased The Orange Box for the Xbox 360 as well because Valve is also working on an update which will include all the goodies that were included with the PC version.
The patch for the PC will see the Teleporters being able to be leveled to 3 with the cool down decreasing as the character levels. Spies will be have the ability to recharge their cloaking skill when they pick ammo up off of the ground. Dispensers will also be able to level up to 3 and will not only heal faster, but generate metal faster as they level. Valve has also added a particle system and has upgraded the HUD to show stats such as death by critical hits, players that are over healed, and providing more information to medics when they are being hailed by other players.
In addition to these new changes and additions, gamers who have not had the opportunity to play Team Fortress 2 can now get the game for $10.00 over on Steam. If you have loads of money to burn, you can also get the complete Valve package for $99.99 which includes: Counter-Strike, Team Fortress Classic, Day of Defeat, Deathmatch Classic, Half-Life: Opposing Force, Ricochet, Half-Life, Counter-Strike: Condition Zero, Half-Life: Blue Shift, Half-Life 2, Counter-Strike: Source, Half-Life: Source, Day of Defeat: Source, Half-Life 2: Deathmatch, Half-Life 2: Lost Coast, Half-Life Deathmatch: Source, Half-Life 2: Episode One, Portal, Half-Life 2: Episode Two, Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead, and Peggle Extreme.
Left 4 Dead will already run you $49.99 so spend the extra $50 and get not only a good deal but a enough games to max out the memory on your PC.
We will be sure to let you know when the patches for both versions of Team Fortress 2 are to be make available, so you may wanna check back with us.

In Blizzard, Computer, Gamer Life, World of Warcraft
Need even more proof that World of Warcraft is immensely popular in all corners of the world? You probably don’t really, but thanks to WoW Insider via CCTV.com, we know now just how much people love their WoW.
Over in Beijing, a World of Warcraft enthusiast has created a restaurant themed after his favorite game. Everything from the decor to the menu was inspired by Blizzard’s behemoth and images of the game are even plastered upon the walls and in-game footage is played on screens. The entrance is a re-creation of the Dark Portal, which for non-players is the opening animation from The Burning Crusade, while the dining area is the Hall of Snow Storms, and there is a towering tree at the center of this “dining portal”.
The food, which is classic Chinese and Sushi in form, is based on the game as well and named after different characters from WoW. When the owner was asked why he created a restaurant based upon his favorite online game, he stated that he did this in “the hope that people who share his enthusiasm for World of Warcraft would find a comfortable gathering place”.
I wonder just how long it will take before someone else does the same thing in another part of the world? If they do, it would definitely give Medieval Times a run for its money.
You can watch the video of the report on CCTV here.

Good Old Games (GOG.com) continues to add titles at a feverish pace bringing poin-and-click adventure games to its line up. CD Projekt has sealed an agreement with Adventure Soft which adds Simon the Sorcerer along with several other adventure titles. As with all GOG.com games, these titles are priced right, Windows XP and Vista compatible and completely DRM free.
I’ve been waiting for GOG.com to get some classic point-and-click adventures. My wife is especially fond of them and has been disappointed in all the casual seek and find adventures that are proliferating these days. The full list of Adventure Soft games is outlined after the break.

Like Portal before it, Mirror’s Edge is now getting the 2D treatment with a new Flash game now in beta. I suppose it makes a lot of sense actually, since the source material’s main feature was slick controls and acrobatics. Unlike the Flash version of Portal though, this game is officially sanctioned by EA, who are working with Borne Games to develop it. After a quick play through, I’d say this game definitely captures the same feel of the console Mirror’s Edge with it’s simple controls and smooth visuals. Actually, I’d say the game even controls better than the 3D version, since you never have to stop and look around for the next ledge to jump to.
You can give the Flash version of Mirror’s Edge a try here.
