Electronic Arts is being targeted by another class-action law suit over the DRM included with Spore, SecuROM. This time, California resident Alex McQuown is hoping to use Spore to take down SecuROM once and for all.
The grievances listed in Alex McQuown’s class-action suit against EA are much the same as the other suits with three big differences. His lawyers at Finkelstein Thompson claim that SecuROM damages computers costing consumer time and money to repair the havoc caused by its installation. The suit also asserts that EA has needlessly caused its customers grief. The figures prove that piracy of games that carry SecuROM has risen dramatically. The biggest difference in McQuown’s suit is that he invites every U.S. citizen that has purchased an EA product with SecuROM to join the class.

During the holiday shopping extravaganza, you may be wondering what interesting thing to get that gamer friend on your list. While games or anything hardware related are always great ideas, sometimes that could be an expensive undertaking and there are plenty of neat things out there that do not cost an arm and leg. Clothing is one of those things, because you can get gamer or geek t-shirts pretty cheap, and nothing says “I am a gamer, hear me roar” or ” I am proud to be a nerd” like a very cool shirt.
Here are just some of the neat ones I came across while doing a bit of shopping last night:

This shirt was found on ThinkGeek.com, and VERY cool website that anyone worth their weight in achievement points would be aware of. Not only do they have some great items for sale, but they have tons of t-shirts just begging to be purchased. I just recently bought something for myself from the site just a couple of days ago.

This is my favorite gamer t-shirt of all time: the Viva Miyamato. Mine is so very very worn out, that I am thankful this one is still around so that I can still show off my geekiness to the masses in my little town. They do not understand it in the slightest I am sure, and they probably think I am some sort of communist, but that is all part of the fun. You can get it from pennyarcade.com.

A must have item for anyone who is an RPG nut, especially for those of us who were (and still are) passionate about our rouge, paladin, monk or cleric. It does not matter if you prefer to be lawful good, neutral, or just plain chaotic evil–no matter what the aliment option chosen, this is a fun piece of apparel and will tell the world in no uncertain terms that you are indeed a proud cellar dweller. There are other cool shirts over on jinx.com, but I personally liked this one the best.

Penny Arcade is calling Eidos on its policy of truth in its latest comic strip. Even after the scandal that has since become known as “Gerstmanngate”, the publisher seems to not have learned a thing. The Truth is the New Lie takes gamers right into the boardroom of Eidos’ PR company “Barrington Harvey” for an imagined training session on manipulating the press.

Child’s Play and gamerDNA are teaming up to raise money for charity this holiday season. Beginning December 2nd, leading game community websites will be prompting members to complete the gamerDNA Decades of Influence Quiz throughout December. The multiple choice quiz helps gamers discover which gaming trends over the last 4 decades have the most influence on their personal gaming style.
Here’s how it works according to the press release.
After completing the quiz, participants will receive a unique virtual badge featuring their quiz results and the name of the community they represent. Using the embeddable codes provided, participants will race to share their badge in as many online locations as possible. The community that shares the most badges will select which Children’s Hospital is to receive a donation of 6 bundles of Nintendo DS systems and games from gamerDNA.”
Child’s Play is a charity begun in 2003 by Penny Arcade creators, Mike “Gabe” Krahulik and Jerry “Tycho” Holkins. All donations go to Children’s Hospitals across the country. Thanks to gamers, Child’s Play has been very successful endeavor.
“Child’s Play has done so much for kids in need, helping to make their lives a little easier and more fun,” said Gene Mauro, VP of Marketing and Business Development at gamerDNA. “We commend all that the organization has accomplished and are happy to contribute to their charity this holiday season with this new contest.”
