ps3 charge base Nyko Releasing a PlayStation 3 Controller Charger

To compensate for the lack of any official charge kit for the Sixaxis, Nyko will be releasing the Charge Base 2. It’ll feature the ability to quickly charge two controllers – either DualShock 3 or Sixaxis – at once and will save you the hassle of having to charge your PS3 controllers via USB.

It’s not a who lot unlike the Xbox 360’s Quick Charge kit which anyone who owns knows is insanely useful and convenient.

The Charge Base 2 will have charge indicators to let you know the status of your controllers which will be charged by plugging the unit into an AC outlet.

It’ll be available this month for $29.99.

nunchuk Nyko Releasing a Wireless Nunchuk for Wii

Tired of having to deal with the wired Nunchuk when playing Wii games? Well, Nyko is set to fix that problem by releasing a Wireless Nunchuk which will provide you with another thing to throw into your television.

The magic to make it work will come in the form of a 2.4 GHz receiver that will simply plug into the Nunchuk port on the Wiimote. Both pieces will feature on and off buttons.

The layout of buttons on the Nunchuk is essentially the same as the first party equivalent, so you shouldn’t run into any problems for wanting to go wireless.

I’m hoping that a wireless classic classic is next up, because having it tethered to the Wiimote is significantly more annoying than the Nunchuk.

Nyko to Release Perfect Shot and Net Connect for the Wii

nykoperfectshot01 1 Nyko to Release Perfect Shot and Net Connect for the Wii

You know how a lot of anti-video game people have been saying the new Wii Zapper looks too much like a gun, even though it looks more like some bread rolls stuck together with toothpicks and painted white? Well, now they might actually have something worthy of complaining about. Nyko has announced that they will soon be releasing the “Perfect Shot,” which has been modeled to look like an actual toy handgun, right down to the detailing. You just slide a Wii-mote into it, connect the Nunchuk at the base of the grip, and you’re good to go. Nyko has also announced the “Net Connect” which is basically the same as the LAN adapter already out from Nintendo, which allows a wired internet connection to the Wii.

Actually, that Perfect Shot looks a lot more fun to use than the Zapper. Still, I’m waiting for someone on the anti-video game side of things to jump all over it.

Nyko Party Station Canceled

nykopartystation1 Nyko Party Station Canceled

The party’s over people. Seriously. Nyko has just announced that their peripheral for the Wii, the Party Station, has been canceled. The Station would have been a box with four slots to hold your Wii-motes and Nunchucks, as well as four drink holders and a bowl for snacks. The box would’ve also had four LED displays to keep score and a cooling fan for your game-weary hands. Nyko explained that they could only sell the product at a retail value of about $25. Unfortunately, all the parts for the Party Station cost around $50 total. Poor thing. It just couldn’t sustain that much partying.

*Cue sentimental music* Party on, Nyko. *sniffle* Party on.

Backwards Compatibility Site for PS3 Now Online

nyko adapter Backwards Compatibility Site for PS3 Now OnlineFinally, the long-promised backwards compatibility website documenting all of the known issues with PSone and PS2 games has been launched. The handy search engine allows for you to search for games to see any potential issues you’ll have when playing on the 60GB or 80GB PlayStation 3 (there’s an option to select which you’ll be playing on).

As 1UP points out, there is a notice at the bottom of the website that states the following: “We are working with game publishers and peripheral manufacturers to develop the appropriate hardware to play peripheral-dedicated PS1 and PS2 games on the PS3. Ultimately, however, it will be up to those companies to decide if they want to produce these peripherals to support this gameplay option.”

In other words, they’re trying to make it so you can play Guitar Hero 1 and 2 on your PS3, but the developers will need to release some sort of peripheral so that you can do that. But why would they do that? They want your money all over again, and with Guitar Hero III right around the corner, it seems unlikely that they’ll release any such peripheral this year.

Gaming Today Reviews Pelican Air Flo Cooler for Xbox 360

By David on Wednesday, August 15th, 2007 at 10:00 PM

While the debate still seems to rage over the real cause of this dreaded malady, it certainly is well known that the Xbox 360 has some cooling issues. So well known in fact, that there is a whole section of the industry competing over your preventative cooling needs. The first one in the spotlight was the Nyko Intercooler, which then was ridiculed for sometimes ironically CAUSING overheating issues in the console.

One of the newest additions to this market is the Air Flo 360 by Pelican. While the Nyko solution uses power direct from your electrical outlet, the Air Flo simply uses available power from one of the console’s USB drives. The Air Flo is also quiet, so quiet in fact that I had to look into the unit itself to make sure the fans were actually spinning. Its hard to really judge if the two additional fans really add in any cooling power, but the unit itself certainly has other uses.

air flo 360

Did someone say VGA ports? Well, I just did I suppose. As perhaps one of the best solutions for gaming on a dime, the Air Flo’s HDTV-ready VGA port is one of the greatest solutions out there. Simply plug in one of your computer monitors into the back of the system, and off you go.

While this method certainly does not grant you the HDTV clarity of an HDMI cable, it certainly is better than hooking it up to a 10-year-old 15 inch bubble TV. This feature alone is certainly worth the $30 dollar purchase, but couple that with 4 additional USB ports, component out, and S-Video options, you certainly have a strong contender for best Xbox cooling accessory available.

Nyko Ships Intercooler for PS3

intercoolerps31 1 Nyko Ships Intercooler for PS3

Nyko Technologies announced today that is has shipped the Intercooler for the PS3. Essentially, a cooling fan for your console, this peripheral snaps onto the back of your PS3 and increases airflow away from system’s internal components. This will allow the PS3 to run at optimal temperature levels, increasing the life of your system.

That’s cool and all (no pun intended), but you know what bugs me? That you’d actually need something like this in the first place. Just a thought, but shouldn’t the system be running at optimal temperature levels on its own? I’m not sure what happens if you don’t use the Intercooler on your system, but I get the impression that a couple of years down the road it’s going to erupt into a fireball when you pop in the latest Ratchet and Clank game.

E3 2007 Exhibitor List

In Games Industry

E3 LogoWell, if you’re wondering who’s going to be at the new, smaller E3 scheduled for July 11-13 this year, here’s the list.

On hand will be 1C Company, Activision, Akella, Atari, Atlus, Bethesda, Buena Vista Games (which recently changed its name to Disney Interactive Studios), Capcom, Codemasters, Crave Entertainment, Eidos, Electronic Arts, Foundation 9 Entertainment, id Software, Konami, Logitech, LucasArts, Majesco, Microsoft, Midway, Namco Bandai Games, NCsoft, Nintendo, Nyko, Sega, Sony Computer Entertainment, Sony Online Entertainment, Square Enix, Take-Two Interactive, THQ, Ubisoft, Vivendi Games, and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.

Obviously, this year’s E3 is going to be far different from what we have seen in the past, however, there will be an exhibit hall in Santa Monica’s Barker Hanger. Also, companies will host demonstrations in area hotel suites. The biggest difference from past E3’s is all about numbers. Three to four thousand attendees are expected in 2007, compared to 60,000 to 70,000 from the past couple of years.
