Rumor: Lego Harry Potter on the Horizon?

harrypotterlego1 Rumor: Lego Harry Potter on the Horizon?Nothing grows more during a slow news day that a wild, baseless rumor, but they’re still just so entertaining to hear about. CVG is now speculating that the next licensed property to be given the “Lego video game” treatment will be the Harry Potter series. They stumbled along this little tidbit of information, and so they’re now trying to confirm it with Warner Bros.

Even though EA owns the rights to make PC and console game’s tied into the movies, it’s hard to say if that agreement encompasses Lego versions as well. At any rate, Traveller’s Tales must certainly be looking for a new property to tap after the success of their Lego Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Batman outings. Shouldn’t be too hard: turn everything in Hogwarts into bricks, add a few co-op puzzles, throw in a dash of wordless, goofy cut-scenes, and you’re done. These Lego games practically make themselves.

LEGO Batman is finally out on shelves near you. Whether you know him as the Caped Crusader or the The Dark Knight, Batman has spawned a number of memorable allies and enemies over the years, which you can take your pick of to play.

LEGO Batman, what little time I spent with it at E3 this year felt like it played perfectly to the concepts presented in previous LEGO action games but with the mythology and mischief of the Batman universe. The game’s demo level felt like it better used the environmental puzzles to present the 4-color superhero setting of Gotham than say LEGO Indy did. I hope that continues in the full version of the game which I know I’m anxiously awaiting. It appeals to all ages, like LEGO Star Wars before it, but who doesn’t know love Batman, Catwoman and the Joker? This is a game for anyone.

LEGO Batman `Alfred` Trailer

Over on the LEGO Batman website, Gotham is brimming with a series of new additions.

First, users of the website can choose their allegiance — Hero or Villain – as they explore the streets of Gotham and uncover the city’s secrets. These latest additions include the recently revealed heroes Alfred Pennyworth (video posted above), who is Batman’s trusted butler and friend – and Batgirl, who fights alongside the Dynamic Duo as they clean the streets of Gotham City.

As users make their way through the virtual streets and rooftops of Gotham City, they will also find new gameplay footage of the heroes and villains in action, as well as a sizzling batch of new and exclusive screenshots.

What’s more, users will find all-new widgets of Batman and the Joker. Once downloaded, these animated characters will live on a computer desktop and offer Gotham-inspired trivia. The widgets also include a timer that counts down the days, hours and minutes until the release of LEGO Batman: The Videogame.

The game is expected to be released on September 23 for the DS, PC, PS2, PS3, Wii, and Xbox-360. Europe and Australia can expect it to arrive around October 8.

With Warner Bros’ Library at their Disposal Traveller’s Tales is Working on More LEGO Games

If you cannot get enough of the LEGO games, and feel that Star Wars, Indiana Jones and the upcoming LEGO Batman are just not enough to tame your cravings – take heart! Traveller’s Tales are working on more LEGO games to pacify your future cravings for plastic blocks.

During an interview with Variety, Traveller’s Tales president Jon Burton stated that the UK-based company is working on future LEGO titles which will be derived from intellectual properties owned by its parent company, Warner Bros.

You may recall that late last year Warner Bros. purchased Traveller’s Tales for $200 million, and it is due to this new relationship that Brurton feels compelled to work on other personal projects other than games.

“For me personally, I think further in the future we’re making a kids’ TV show…using some of the tech we’ve developed for games. In the mid-distance, personally, to be able to dabble around in CG and film would be interesting, and Warner allows me to push in those directions without ‘quitting the day job,’ so to speak.

So for me, to look to the future and think, ‘I wouldn’t mind [doing a film]…’ And Warner allows me to take a step in that direction, and if I suck? Great, I’ll make games.”

Burton did not go into detail on which Warner Bros. IP he was currently working on, but with such a vast library of titles it could be just about anything.  Because of this, I have come up with some of my own ideas of what I believe would be interesting LEGO titles.

sonypresssandwich1 1 E3 2008: Sonys Press Conference The Best Yet

Thus far, Sony’s has been the best press conference of E3 2008, hands down. Their turkey melts were delicious, as were the mini-quiches and those fruit drinks they were passing out. The wait staff was prompt and efficient, particularly around the open bar. All I had to do was say “beer,” and there’d be one in my hand within seconds. Oh yeah, and they talked about games or something like that, I think… Read the full article
