LEGO Batman gets a Butler - Alfred Pennyworth Added to Roster
Posted by Stephany on Tuesday, August 26th, 2008 at 1:33 pm under Computer, Game Companies, Gamer Life, Games, Microsoft, Nintendo, Nintendo, Sony, Videos
Over on the LEGO Batman website, Gotham is brimming with a series of new additions.
First, users of the website can choose their allegiance — Hero or Villain – as they explore the streets of Gotham and uncover the city’s secrets. These latest additions include the recently revealed heroes Alfred Pennyworth (video posted above), who is Batman’s trusted butler and friend - and Batgirl, who fights alongside the Dynamic Duo as they clean the streets of Gotham City.
As users make their way through the virtual streets and rooftops of Gotham City, they will also find new gameplay footage of the heroes and villains in action, as well as a sizzling batch of new and exclusive screenshots.
What’s more, users will find all-new widgets of Batman and the Joker. Once downloaded, these animated characters will live on a computer desktop and offer Gotham-inspired trivia. The widgets also include a timer that counts down the days, hours and minutes until the release of LEGO Batman: The Videogame.
The game is expected to be released on September 23 for the DS, PC, PS2, PS3, Wii, and Xbox-360. Europe and Australia can expect it to arrive around October 8.

LEGO Universe Trailer Explains What "LUPs" Are
Posted by Jonathan on Friday, August 22nd, 2008 at 1:32 pm under Computer, Game Companies, Game Platforms, Games, Videos
Just based on the word alone, my first guess would be that a “LUP” was an animal sidekick from an 80’s cartoon (much like Snarf in Thundercats). Sadly, I’d be very wrong. “LUP” is actually an acronym for “LEGO Universe Partners,” a group of engineers and professionals from various fields that have come together to help make LEGO Universe. This trailer shows how NetDevil was able to bring these people under their wing and apply their expertise to the upcoming MMO. Their work will help expand the existing groundwork for the game, but players will be able to create their own objects and environments as well. And knowing the internet, I have a feeling a lot of those will be very, erm, “phallic” in appearance.
Gamers Can Shoot Down Mercenaries 2 Ads
Posted by Shawn on Tuesday, August 19th, 2008 at 9:36 am under Computer, Game Companies, Game Consoles, Game Platforms, Gamer Life, Games, Microsoft, Sony
When is in-game advertising not quite so annoying? When you can destroy ads at will; and Mercenaries 2: World in Flames will allow gamers to do just that.
According to GameDaily, Jay Sampson, VP of global sales for Massive isn’t perturbed at all by having the in-game ads placed in Pandemic’s Mercenaries 2 blown to bits. He counts it as a win for consumer and marketer alike.
“It’s purely a byproduct of gameplay and this notion of a highly destructible environment,” commented Sampson. “Sticking to our ethos of ‘do no harm to the game,’ we tagged the parts in the environment for ads and like everything else in the game, they can be destroyed. It’s mirroring what the studio wants out of gameplay and making the most of it.
Ads will respawn when you restart the game giving you the chance to frag them to your hearts content. This brings up fond memories of LEGO Star Wars and Jar Jar Binks for me.
With Warner Bros' Library at their Disposal Traveller's Tales is Working on More LEGO Games
Posted by Stephany on Thursday, August 7th, 2008 at 10:41 am under Editorials, Game Companies, Gamer Life, Games
If you cannot get enough of the LEGO games, and feel that Star Wars, Indiana Jones and the upcoming LEGO Batman are just not enough to tame your cravings - take heart! Traveller’s Tales are working on more LEGO games to pacify your future cravings for plastic blocks.
During an interview with Variety, Traveller’s Tales president Jon Burton stated that the UK-based company is working on future LEGO titles which will be derived from intellectual properties owned by its parent company, Warner Bros.
You may recall that late last year Warner Bros. purchased Traveller’s Tales for $200 million, and it is due to this new relationship that Brurton feels compelled to work on other personal projects other than games.
“For me personally, I think further in the future we’re making a kids’ TV show…using some of the tech we’ve developed for games. In the mid-distance, personally, to be able to dabble around in CG and film would be interesting, and Warner allows me to push in those directions without ‘quitting the day job,’ so to speak.
So for me, to look to the future and think, ‘I wouldn’t mind [doing a film]…’ And Warner allows me to take a step in that direction, and if I suck? Great, I’ll make games.”
Burton did not go into detail on which Warner Bros. IP he was currently working on, but with such a vast library of titles it could be just about anything. Because of this, I have come up with some of my own ideas of what I believe would be interesting LEGO titles.
A Different Kind of QuakeCon Tour: Day One
Posted by Chris on Friday, August 1st, 2008 at 1:09 pm under Computer, Game Platforms, Gamer Life, Videos
Warning: The video above has some salty language and it’s quite possible you’ll be offended by it. You’ve been warned.
1UP’s Shawn Elliott is at the ongoing QuakeCon 2008 and rather than do a traditional tour where we get a look at the highlights, we’re getting the exact opposite. Featuring the pizza box and LEGO computer case mods and the 3D gaming box, you’ll at least be getting a look at what sort of stuff you’re missing out on that you’re unlikely to see anywhere else. (Although that might be for good reason.)
It’s funny as hell — trumping the Geometry Wars 2 developer interview as the funniest thing I’ve seen today — and I’m left with just one thought: can I get one of those rad, bad boy t-shirts?
PlayStation Store 7/31: PixelJunk Eden and Three New Demos
Posted by Chris on Thursday, July 31st, 2008 at 4:48 pm under Electronic Arts, Game Companies, Game Consoles, Game Platforms, Games, Madden, Sony, Sony

The PlayStation Portable Store is a no-show this week, but there’s more than enough good stuff on the PS3 to make up for it. (Assuming you have a PS3, of course, otherwise you’ll just be left envious of those console-playing folks.)
PixelJunk Eden is the obvious highlight, making it the third PixelJunk game from Q-Games to be released on the PlayStation Network. Eden is a bit more abstract than the previous two games, which you could easily identify as a tower defense and racing game. $10 is the price for the full version of the game, or you can check out the demo that was released last week and read 1UP’s review.
LEGO Indiana Jones joins Madden 09 and FaceBreaker as the three new game demos this week. Madden’s demo is disappointingly short, letting you only play through the Madden IQ test and then a single trip down the field as you try to score a touchdown with the Giants in the closing moments of this year’s Super Bowl. It doesn’t really give you a great look at the game while the FaceBreaker demo does let you try out the create-a-player mode with your camera and play as many 90 second bouts as you wish.
Check out the full list of content after the break, including four new Rock Band tracks and some Soul Calibur music, which isn’t the slightest bit cheap.
Warner Bros. Reveals All-New Villain in LEGO Batman
Posted by Shawn on Monday, July 28th, 2008 at 1:26 pm under Game Companies, Game Consoles, Game Platforms, Games, Microsoft, Nintendo, Nintendo, Portable, Sony, Sony
Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has revealed a new villain for LEGO Batman: The Videogame! The infamous Man-Bat joins the ranks of the villains crawling on Gotham’s seedy underbelly.
Once a respected scientist who specialized in the study of bats, Dr. Kirk Langstrom transformed into a powerful man-sized bat after a risky lab experiment produces unexpected results. Robbed of his humanity, Man-Bat swoops through Gotham on his powerful wings terrorizing the populace! Only Batman and his allies have any hope of caging this winged villain.
There are more incredible new screenshots like the ones in this post featuring Man-bat available on FileFront.

June Software NPDs: Metal Gear Solid 4 Month, What a Surprise
Posted by Chris on Saturday, July 19th, 2008 at 12:36 pm under Activision, Battlefield, Electronic Arts, Game Companies, Game Consoles, Game Platforms, Games, LucasArts, Metal Gear, Microsoft, Nintendo, Nintendo, Nintendo, Portable, Sony
As if the hardware numbers didn’t clue you, Metal Gear Solid 4 dominated the software charts for last month here in the United States. The game sold 774,600 units, but if you combine that number with how many Metal Gear Solid 4 PS3 bundles were sold (which include a copy of the game), the NPD estimates that about a million copies of MGS4 were sold last month. I guess people really wanted to know whether or not Snake and Otacon would have that dreamy ending they’ve been wanting since the end of the original Metal Gear Solid.
There are a few other easy-to-predict things in the top ten, such as Guitar Hero On Tour selling quite a few copies, as did Wii Fit and Wii Play. Battlefield: Bad Company (on 360) and Ninja Gaiden 2 both had strong sales, as did Mario Kart Wii.
But the major surprise — aside from GTA IV’s disappearance — is just how well Lego Indiana Jones sold. With the new movie being released, it was assured a good number of sales, but the Wii, PS2 and DS versions of the game combined for 822,600 copies sold, or in other words, straight cash money.
Kris Pigna over at 1UP made a good point regarding On Tour, suggesting that the game’s sales may have been much higher if the DS bundles were included in the figures. It’s worth keeping in mind, but I’m sure Activision is happy with selling 400k copies of a game that will likely have legs.
June 2008 Software Sales
- Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (PS3) — 774,600 (Roughly 1 million including bundles)
- Guitar Hero On Tour (DS) — 422,300
- Ninja Gaiden II (Xbox 360) — 372,700
- Wii Fit (Wii) — 372,700
- Wii Play (Wii) - 359,100
- Battlefield: Bad Company (Xbox 360) — 346,800
- Mario Kart Wii (Wii) — 322,400
- LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventure (Wii) — 294,500
- LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventure (DS) — 267,800
- LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventure (PS2) — 260,300

It has been one crazy week, and the craziest thing happening at home base while Jonathan and Shawn were in LA was the amount of assets we received in our inboxes on a daily basis. I have decided to post the lonely screens and trailers that did not get their very own post into one large post full of links. There’s just is not enough time to post them all, so this is the best way I know how.
While this is not a comprehensive list of what was not covered, it is close. There are more screens floating around out there that we have yet to get, but if or when we do, we will do our best to wow you with them.

E3 2008: Sony's Press Conference - The Best Yet
Posted by Jonathan on Wednesday, July 16th, 2008 at 6:15 pm under E3 2008, Features, Game Companies, Game Consoles, Games, Games Industry, Portable, Sony, Sony, Sony
Thus far, Sony’s has been the best press conference of E3 2008, hands down. Their turkey melts were delicious, as were the mini-quiches and those fruit drinks they were passing out. The wait staff was prompt and efficient, particularly around the open bar. All I had to do was say “beer,” and there’d be one in my hand within seconds. Oh yeah, and they talked about games or something like that, I think… Read the full article
E3 2008: LEGO Batman Introduces Killer Moth and Mad Hatter
Posted by Stephany on Wednesday, July 16th, 2008 at 4:16 pm under Computer, E3 2008, Game Companies, Gamer Life, Games, Microsoft, Nintendo, Nintendo, Sony
Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment presents recently revealed villains Killer Moth and Mad Hatter today.
The latest news from Gotham City reveals that two infamous villains have been spotted lurking around city streets and causing a twisted brand of mayhem. The first culprit, Mad Hatter, can hypnotize his enemies through his many varieties of hats. The winged menace, Killer Moth, uses his natural abilities to glide through Gotham in search of his most wanted prey, Batman and Robin.
This game sounds more and more fun everyday.
LEGO Batman: The Videogame - 'Hero or Villian?' Trailer is Adorable
Posted by Stephany on Monday, July 14th, 2008 at 2:01 pm under Computer, Game Companies, Gamer Life, Games, Microsoft, Nintendo, Sony, Sony, Videos
I love Batman. Therefore I really want to play LEGO Batman because it combines my love for The Dark Knight along with the fun I have playing the LEGO videogames. The thing I enjoyed most about this video, is seeing Bane pick a cop up and break his back over his knee. Awesome.
This new trailer featuring gameplay footage from the upcoming title asks the gamer the question: “Will you save or destroy Gotham City?” Destroying it would be more fun to be quite honest, but whatever floats your boat I guess. Anyway, enjoy this fun and adorable video, and if you are interested in playing the game, it is coming to almost every gaming unit imaginable in September.
Zero Punctuation Painfully Steps on Lego Indiana Jones
Posted by Jonathan on Wednesday, July 9th, 2008 at 11:36 am under Game Companies, Game Consoles, Games, LucasArts, Microsoft, Nintendo, Nintendo, Portable, Sony, Sony, Videos
Zero Punctuation is back again, this time with some fancy new opening graphics and a review of Lego Indiana Jones. Since the game “kid-ifies” the Indiana Jones trilogy and simultaneously acts as a reminder the The Crystal Skull, you can probably guess where Yahtzee’s opinion of this game lies. As always though, this review is dead-on and just plain hilarious. Also it’s nice to see I wasn’t the only one traumatized by the ending of Raiders of the Lost Ark when I was a kid.
New Lego Batman Trailer Shows Poison Ivy and Bruce Wayne in Action
Posted by Jonathan on Tuesday, July 8th, 2008 at 9:18 am under Computer, Game Companies, Game Consoles, Game Platforms, Games, Microsoft, Nintendo, Nintendo, Portable, Sony, Sony, Videos
Since I finished Lego Indiana Jones, I’ve actually been pretty psyched up for the next Lego-fied recreation from Traveller’s Tales, Lego Batman. I just can’t seem to get enough of little plastic guys beating each other into literal pieces. This newest trailer for the upcoming game shows off two more characters, Poison Ivy and Bruce Wayne, as they make their way around the block-based Gotham City. Here we get to see Poison Ivy’s amazing winking and hair flip moves, as well as Bruce Wayne’s briefcase attacks; plus his ability to bend time and space to fight alongside Batman.
(Note to all the other Batman fans out there: the anime shorts collection, “Batman: Gotham Knight,” hits store shelves today. Hopefully that’ll tide me over until The Dark Knight gets released.)
LEGO Batman Reveals Poison Ivy and Bruce Wayne
Posted by Stephany on Saturday, July 5th, 2008 at 1:48 am under Computer, Game Companies, Gamer Life, Games, Microsoft, Nintendo, Nintendo, Sony
LEGO Batman just got a little bit more interesting today, what with the release of some screens for Poison Ivy and Bruce Wayne.
In the game, our favorite redheaded, villainous vixen Pamela Isley, is immune to all toxins, and became “Poison Ivy” to fight humanity on behalf of her beloved plants. Both devilishly evil and incredibly seductive, Poison Ivy can lure most men to do her bidding. Ivy tries to keep Batman off balance, alternating between deadly force and seduction. For his part, Batman is seldom thrown by Ivy’s tactics, his rigid training enabling him to keep focused on goals. Still, he respects her power and never underestimates her resourcefulness.
In the game, Ivy has the special ability to throw seeds where there are specific plant pots within the levels. Plants will grow out of these pots to create platforms. Poison Ivy also has the ability to blow love dust to security guards who then grant her access. Sound familiar?
On the other hand, not much is known about Batman’s true identity, Bruce Wayne. After his parents were killed by a mugger, Bruce Wayne dedicated his life to fighting crime. Training himself to the peak of mental and physical perfection, he became the Dark Knight protector of Gotham City, Batman!
In the game, he will be a playable character in the Wayne Manor bonus level, and that is all that is known for now, but more is promised to be revealed soon.
Enjoy the screens, there are plenty more after the jump.
ChannelFlip Video Review of LEGO Indiana Jones

ChannelFlip has a new video review of LEGO Indiana Jones. Katharine, your host gives players a look at Lucas Arts attempt to recreate the wild popularity of the LEGO Star Wars titles.
The game features a storyline based on the first three movies without mentioning Nazism to keep the game family friendly. Without the fourth movie and very little content from The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles TV series; the game doesn’t have nearly as much background to work with as Star Wars. Katharine give gamers her opinion on whether LEGO Indiana Jones is worth the investment.

Better Late Than Never… Xbox 360 LEGO Indiana Jones Demo
Posted by Shawn on Sunday, June 29th, 2008 at 4:54 pm under Game Companies, Game Consoles, Game Demos, Game Platforms, Games, LucasArts, Microsoft
Almost a month after Lucas Arts released LEGO Indiana Jones to retail stores, a demo for the game has surfaced on Xbox Live. Here are the specifics:
Demo: LEGO Indiana Jones
Content: LEGO Indiana Jones Demo
Price: Free
Availability: All Xbox LIVE regions
Dash Text: [ESRB: E10+ (Everyone 10+) CARTOON VIOLENCE] Download the demo.
I have to wonder why the demo was released so late or at all at this point. It begs the question of whether LEGO Indiana Jones is selling as well as Lucas Arts had hoped. Anyway, If you haven’t picked up the game yet, you can see if you like the game controls for the Xbox or whether you would rather try to master the Wii’s control system.

Five LEGO Games That Will Never Happen
Posted by Stephany on Friday, June 27th, 2008 at 10:36 am under Gamer Life, Games
This may have been all over Digg, but just in case you missed it, it is indeed pretty funny. Especially considering that “No Country for Old Men” is included.
While all five are indeed pretty amusing, I had to laugh pretty hard at one of the comments made on The Minus World, where this was posted. A commenter calling themselves Whoareyou, mentioned “A Clockwork Orange” and yet another mentions “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas”.
Could you imagine a young, jaunty Malcolm McDowell in his trademark white fencing attire, his bowler hat and the unforgettable false eyelashes? Or in the case of F&L, Johnny Depp’s character having his drunken dinosaur hallucination? The possibilities for LEGO games that will never happen is endless, and pretty hilarious.
