In this mystic world, you may tour around all the spots described in Mythology to see the solemn Parthenon, you may feel the majesty of famed Greek cities and even access Gods’ territory, you may meet with legendary heroes: Heracles, Theseus, Easun…or the Gods of Mythology, and you may even challenge evil Monsters: the Gorgon medusa, and the Hydra.

Eidos is showing off the villains of Batman Arkham Asylum in a new video. This dark and twisted vision of the batman setting will push the Dark Knight further towards the brink of slipping from hero into vigilante. These Batman Arkham Asylum Villains stand ready to push him right off the edge. Check out The Joker, Killer Croc and Bane in action as well as a glimpse of a Harley Quinn design that could have been inspired by Bloodlines.
I think that one of the reasons Batman is so popular is that he is a hero of the people. He isn’t a perfect man, a mutant or an alien. He has no supernatural or magical powers. He’s a man with a mission who struggles to keep from becoming the thing he hates. People can relate to him more readily than say Superman, even if he does have more money than god.

After last week’s stellar review of inFamous, Zero Punctuation pits Cole McGrath and his thunder god impression against Protoype. The main character Alex Mercer is more of a “you are who you eat,” type of guy.
I thought this comparison piece of InFamous and Prototype was rather inevitable actually. Early on in their development cycles I often became confused over the two games only being able to straighten it out because one main character eats people and the other… doesn’t. What with all the government interference in the natural order of things coming back to bite them in the ass, in Prototype’s case literally, they seem very similar at first glance.

The Sims 3 is the next generation of the original Maxis hit god game, The Sims. The game is definitely a technical evolution as I described in my impressions on Sims 3 Creation, Buy, and Build mode design mechanics, but how does it actually play after you’ve spent hours designing your Sims and their new homes.
Sims 3 breaks the sims out of the confines of their beautifully constructed prisons and allows them to freely roam the world around them. You can follow your sim to work at the theater or the military base or watch as they jog, bike, or drive to the beach for a sunny afternoon. You can walk around town collecting little treasures like unpolished gems and mystery seeds or go introduce yourself to your neighbors. Just walk up and ring the bell.

I realize that most people go “ga ga” for Madden NFL every year, but to be honest I’ve always found college football far more exciting. Each year I look forward to EA’s incremental updates to their NCAA Football series just like the slavering Madden junkies do. Growing up in Columbus, Ohio and working at Ohio State has left me a bit numb to my hometown college team – The Ohio State Buckeyes because here college football is the second biggest thing next to God, but regardless there is something about playing college ball, racing for the Heisman that I just find more interesting. Maybe its the lack of professional polish, maybe its just the presentation and the crowd elements of the game that don’t exist in the NFL. This year EA is adding a number of needed defensive improvements as well as a TeamBuilder feature so players can completely create their own virtual college to compete against the best.
Its interesting to see how Madden and NCAA change and this years tweaks are bit different. You can find all the new features after the jump.

InFamous is an action packed trip into a familiar genre with an interesting twist. You start out as Cole McGrath, a poor schmuck who has a mysterious delivery package blow up in his face, leaving him with burgeoning electrical based powers and everyone else in a six block radius with a slight case of death. You emerge from your baptism by fire, crawl out of the blast zone and run for your life guided by your buddy Zeke as the police force hunts you down.
Once you reach the relative safety of your roof top penthouse, the game truly begins throwing you into a grand conspiracy masterminded by a clandestine mystical organization. As you unravel the mystery, you can either fight your reputation as the bringer of the apocalypse or revel in the new coolness that is you and start building your own evil empire.

Despite the huge number of copies pirated P2P before the release, Sims 3 is raking in the profits with 1.4 million sales for the PC and Mac the first week. The figure makes Sims 3 the best selling EA game for the PC ever. Play created content is also churning out at an amazing rate. Fans have already snagged 7 million downloads of custom content from the Sims 3 Exchange.
I’m playtesting Sims 3 right now, and have been able to find new dlc for the game already on several free sites including Mod The Sims and Parsimonius. There are many sims and patterns to be had and even a few global mods already up. For those of you who are new to this god game, you can find more details on Sims 3 from the EA press release after the break.

The rumor mill is chewing on a possible price drop for the PS3 this August to kick off EA’s latest Madden game. Unnamed inside sources have indicated to Industrygamers‘ James Brightman that “industry sources indicate Sony is planning a $100 price cut on the PS3 in mid-August, just prior the launch of Madden (8/18) and the start of the back to school shopping season. This will naturally be a positive for the industry.”
Those of you holding their breath with me at the end of Sony’s E3 2009 presentation only to be disappointed shouldn’t give up on seeing a PS3 price drop this year. At least PSP fans should be getting a price break on games and just more games altogether because of the PSP development kit price break announced at the press conference.
I could be paranoid, but I suspect there may be other reasons Sony is holding firm on the price of its overly expensive gaming console.
