sin cityAccording to a recent GameSpot post, Transmission Games is not going to be developing the new Sin City game after all.

Still expected sometime in 2009, the Frank Miller game will instead be handled by a development house which has yet to be revealed. This change apparently happened quite a while ago so that Transmission could focus more on Red Mile’s upcoming flight combat sim Heroes Over Europe.

While not much has been divulged about the game adaption of Miller’s highly acclaimed work, it is known that Sin CIty will be built using the Unreal Engine 3 and will be made available for the PS3, Wii and Xbox 360 around Christmas next year.

Gaming Today has been following the progress of the Sin City game since May 2007. If you would like to read up on what little we do know, click here.

In the meantime, feel confident in the fact that if we hear anything else, we will be sure to post it.

Sega Working With Ratings Board on MadWorld

madworld Sega Working With Ratings Board on MadWorld

Sega’s David Corless assured gamers at the Games Convention presentation of MadWorld that the company is working work ratings boards. MadWorld is an ultra-violent Wii-exclusive videogame that’s already been banned in Germany.

“Yes, it’s violent,” admitted Sega marketing man David Corless. “We don’t try to hide that, but as publishers, we see it as a fantasy game – it’s fantasy violence. It’s over the top. It’s cartoony.”

Corless added: “We also take the violence very seriously. We are working with the age rating boards, with PEGI and with BBFC. We’re not at the end of the game’s development, but we’re working with them now to make sure that we don’t go over the top.

“The game has been banned in Germany; there’s no getting around that unfortunately. But we are taking it seriously and we’re going to make sure that this game is rated for the appropriate audience,” he said.

People have come to see the Wii as a “safe” casual console for family type games ignoring titles such as The Godfather: Blackhand Edition and Resident Evil 4. MadWorld is animated in black, white and blood red in a Frank Miller comic book style which belies the extreme violence in the game. However it wouldn’t be the first Mature, violent videogame on the Wii. I can hardly see how one more mature game for the Wii will “spoil” the family friendly appeal of the console as watchdog groups have alleged.

Teaser Trailer Unveiled for Frank Miller’s The Spirit

By Jonathan on Monday, April 21st, 2008 at 5:37 PM
In Gamer Life

Let’s take a break from all the video game talk for a moment to look at one of the many buzz-worthy things that came out of New York’s Comic-Con recently. Frank Miller’s work in comics has thus far been adapted into two films — 300 and Sin City — that have already garnered a strong following. But for his latest foray into films, it seems he’s taking a more direct approach. Right now, he’s helming his own adaptation of Will Eisner’s comic, The Spirit, which follows the story of a cop who returns from the grave to battle the forces of evil in his city. It was already suspected that Miller was putting his own distinctive visual style on the film, but this new teaser trailer just confirms it. The whole thing really looks and sounds like an outtake from Sin City. The inner comic book nerd in me is decrying the fact that they’ve apparently strayed from the original comic quite a bit. But if anyone could deviate from the original comic and still make it good, it’d probably be Miller.

Red Mile Excited About Sin City Games

sin city

Coming just in time for Christmas 2009 will be Red Mile’s gaming version of Frank Miller’s Sin City universe. While this is great news for the small developer, the most exciting thing for them is the fact that they secured the rights to all seven of Miller’s graphic novels which fans like me have read until they have fallen to pieces. This is also good news for those that thought the game would be a movie tie-in when the second flick hits theaters because that is not the case -the games are licensed off the novels not the movies. Therefore, we do not have to worry about another crappy movie/video game abomination – now we just have to worry about how these fantastic bits of noir transfer into the realm of interactive gaming.

President and COO, Glenn Wong, of Red Mile had this say about Sin City the game and “Sin City 2″ coming out next year:

“We wanted to go back to the source material instead of the filtered version that people saw on the big screen. We’d like to think that we’ll be able to capitalize on whatever awareness of ‘Sin City’ is generated by the second film, but, frankly, I don’t even know when that’s scheduled to be released.”

Using the Unreal Engine 3, Sin City is expected to launch for the PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii . Wong is hoping that the game will be well recived so that gamers can expect sequels to include the entire Sin City series, which if it does indeed do well he should have no worries.

Top Talent to Create Sin City

10537 Top Talent to Create Sin City

Red Mile Entertainment has announced top video game industry talent will help create Frank Miller’s vision of Sin City to life. Flint Dille, who’s credits include The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay and Dead to Rights, will head up the design, scriptwriting, story generation, and overall production of the game. Union Entertainment, which has a producer whose credits include The Red Star and recently released The Darkness, has also signed on to work in development on the title.

“Frank and I met during what I call our ‘professional adolescence’ when he was doing the Dark Knight and I was doing the Transformers cartoon series, and we’ve been great friends ever since,” says Dille. “Frank and I have been having a party coming up with nasty stuff for the game. In true Sin City fashion, some old characters will return, new characters will appear and — without giving anything away — probably die horribly. It’s great to be working with the Red Mile team on this project: They clearly share Frank’s and my commitment to bringing a new and true Sin City to interactive life.”

“Sin City is one of a select few properties that everyone agrees is ideal for video games,” said Union President, Richard Leibowitz, “and we’re very proud to help make that happen.”

“Flint and Union bring a deep and broad array of video game experience to Sin City and they’ll be integral to Red Mile’s creating a video game experience that delivers on gamers’ and fans’ expectations,” said Chester Aldridge, CEO of Red Mile Entertainment.

As a big fan of the Sin City graphic novels, I’m really looking forward to playing this game. Sin City is a dark, gritty, morally challenging and definitely mature setting. The announcement that Dille and Union will be in on the development really gives me hope that the translation of Sin City to video games will be everything you would expect from the title. Hopefully, if some of the characters featured in the movie version are used in the game, Red Mile will be able to entice the actors to reprise their roles for the game.

“300″ Producer Talks World of Warcraft Movie

wow1 300 Producer Talks World of Warcraft Movie

At the recent Hollywood & Games Summit, Thomas Tull — chairman of Legendary Pictures and producer of “300″ — gave a keynote where he discussed, among other things, a film in the works based on World of Warcraft. He made of point of stating that video games should not be made into movies just because of their sales figures:

“Sure, there are 8 million people playing WoW, but even if all of those people saw the movie multiple times, we’d still be screwed.”

He continued though, saying that he feels good about the WoW movie:

“It doesn’t matter to us if it’s based on a graphic novel like [Frank Miller's] 300, or a TV show – if there’s a great universe and story, that’s what’s interesting to us…I think some of the stuff that makes a game translate well into a movie is a good story. If there’s a lore, if there’s a road and story and a world that’s been created, and characters that are interesting in a way that’s more than just point and shoot.”

He also discussed how involved the developers of the game are in the production of the film:

“We are working very closely with the designers and writers, and they’re very involved. I think on the bigger [films] you have to have that. They’re sitting right there at the table with us as we develop the story and the script, and I think we’re nailing the story and what’s compelling about it.”

Red Mile Entertainment announced today that they have signed a multi-year agreement to develop and publish games based on the graphic novels by Frank Miller. According to Chester Aldridge, the CEO of Red Mile:

“Sin City enjoys a broad and devoted following. Its crime-noir settings, richly detailed characters, hyper-real action sequences, and engaging stories provide an outstanding groundwork for video games. Red Mile is enthusiastic about working with Frank Miller to create a franchise that is worthy of this great property.”

This is awesome. I am a HUGE Sin City fan and I know that the rest of you out there will be as pleased as I was to not only hear that Red Mile has Frank’s seal of approval, but that the games will stay true to his vision. We will keep you posted on production news, release dates, platforms, and any media that comes our way. Man this news rocks!
