This is the first time in 4 years that I’ve not been scrambling and hurrying to get things ready for my trip to E3. I wish I could say I was disappointed because there is the faint chance that this year E3 might be something more akin to a sane version of my first visit to the LA convention center in 2006.
However I can’t help wondering why E3 excites anyone anymore.
The second DLC pack for Lionhead Studio’s massive hit Fable 2 has been released. Fans of the Xbox 360 RPG can purchase the new add-on content from Xbox Live Marketplace right now for 560 MS bux ($7 USD for you normal people).
The new content offers two new missions, a new combat arena aptly titled ‘Colosseum’, creature costumes, hair styles, make-up, dog tricks, and potions that can change your gender or dog’s breed. ‘See the Future’ reintroduces Murgo, the guy who sold you that magic music box, peddling cursed items supplied by a mysterious source. Through examining these items, the player is whisked away to new locations, battling new enemies and, eventually, gathering a glimpse into their own future (possible plot hints to Fable 3).
If you decide to purchase ‘See the Future’, take note that if you and your buddy want to co-op Fable 2, the latter will need to download the ‘See the Future’ (free) pack to maintain compatibility (or as I foresee, showing off your character in drag). As implied, the “free” version, however, does not give your buddy access to ‘See the Future’ content.
Looks like Fable 2 players anxious to get their hands on Knothole Island, the extra content for the game, will have to wait a bit longer than the original date of December 22 Here is what was posted this morning on Xbox.com:

King Arthur is a RPG Wargame, where you will play the role of the legendary King Arthur and conquer the warring provinces of Britannia until you unite the realm. Meanwhile, you will have to recruit the fabled Knights of the Round Table and send them to heroic adventures and knightly quests.
In the game you command whole armies and heroes. While the heroes lead the armies, besides the gradually unfolding storyline they explore the land of the mystical Britannia – meaning that you send them to battles to conquer provinces, which add up to a growing realm that has to be managed by passing laws and developing cities – they are also the main characters of the game. These Knights of the Round Table gather experience, develop abilities, participate in adventures where they have their own influence on the outcome.
The Knights of the Round Table are not only the warriors that were depicted in the classic tales, but heroes in the game they possess magical powers that they will develop further as they gain experience. They have their own backgrounds, their own loyalties and moralities which means that since there are many of them, some of them will serve Arthur but others will appear in the courts of Arthur’s enemies such as the tribal warlord-king of Wales; the monster-slaying Saxons; the reborn Roman provinces; or Morgawse, the Witch Queen of Orkney.
Hungarian game developer NeocoreGames have announced a new PC-only RPG/strategy game called King Arthur, which thus far has been in development for three years. Described as having a mixture of the best gameplay elements from both RPG and strategy games and equipped with a unique and beautiful atmosphere.
In King Arthur, players will guide the legendary king as he conquers the warring provinces of Britannia until they unite the realm. Meanwhile, they will recruit the fabled knights of the Round Table and send them on adventures (watch our for Zoot and her friends Brave Sir Galahad) which will help you improve your knights and mold them into the bravest men they can be. In turn, they will build Camelot and govern a growing realm, while commandeering battles where many thousands clash on the field. Every decision they make will determine Arthur’s morality as a king, creating their own legend – this means that Arthur could become a rightful ruler or ruthless monarch or either a Christian or a pagan.
King Arthur will be released in the first half of 2009 and offers more than 100 hours of gameplay and multiplayer gaming modes. In the meantime, FileFront has loads of screens from the game along with some very cool concept art featuring dreary looking scenes and a very mystical looking Stonehenge. You can also check out the website which has a teaser trailer up for your viewing pleasure.
Looks like the downloadable content heading to Fable 2 mentioned back in November will not be arriving on December 12 like everyone thought. Lionhead told Eurogamer this morning that the Knothole Island DLC will instead be arriving on December 22.
Goodies include new quests and decisions, and a new, free o-op patch which will allow Knothole Island players to play with those who do not have it. Those who download the patch or the Knothole Island content will get some cool Assassin’s Gloves, a collectible book, Knight’s Boots, and a Weight Loss potion amongst other goodies.
As mentioned above, the patch is free but the Knothole Island DLC will cost you 800 Microsoft Points ($10.00). Those who download the patch will still be able to play together, but unless you have the Knothole Island content, you will not be able to visit.
There are only a few more memorable lines spoken in the original Star Wars than when Obi Won refers to the Mos Eisley spaceport on Tatooine where Luke and he meet up with Han Solo and Chewbacca as a place where: “You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious.”
That fateful meeting set the tone for the scoundrel and privateers in the Star Wars setting and introduced us to our first bounty hunter as well (even if he did get blasted by Han.. alas poor Greedo).
Scum and Villainy is the latest book in the outstanding Star Wars SAGA Edition RPG line. Like the place that inspired the films dialog, the book introduces gamers to the seedy side of galactic life in a galaxy far, far away. Lovable rogues, mercenary privateers and less forthright businessmen get their own sourcebook concentrating on making the gray side of Star Wars’ black and white universe not only playable but interesting to set within an entire campaign.
No longer do force wielding Jedi or noble galactic soldiers need to be the sole focus of a Star Wars campaign. Instead players and GMs alike can spend some time wallowing in the mud, making backroom bargains and getting involved in illicit deals with high risk and big rewards.
