Play as the Legendary Mozart in this Point and Click Adventure Game

Mozart French Trailer

This is probably one of the strangest trailers (the Limbo of the Lost ending does not count) I have seen in a while. I never knew that Mozart was a detective, or that the DaVinci Code was being made into another game by a different name, or that I still, after all these years post high school, retained my ability to read French. It is a day of wonders indeed. Anyway, on with it….

Prague, 1788, the times are hard… Prussians and Austro-Hungarians are fighting to gain control of Bohemia. There is a rumour that the armies of the Emperor of Austria, Joseph II, have been defeated after the bloody battle of Carensebes against the Ottomans. At the same time, Mozart, the Emperor’s protégé, is in Prague trying once again to solve his money problems, with no idea of what is just round the corner…

Mozart, developed by Game Consulting who did the conception and production of a level for Unreal Tournament 3 is a point and click adventure game in the third person, with what looks to be exceptional graphics for the P&C genre. In the story, the player is put in the historical setting of Prague, with its legendary places and architectural treasures combing roman, gothic and baroque styles. Does not sound too bad considering a virtual Prague is much cheaper than the real Prague.

As Mozart, will you are discovering the richness Prague has to offer, you have to solve the musical riddles thrown at you while the composer’s music plays the whole time.

1Up gave the game an A+ so it must be a decent little point and click game, and if you are into that sort of thing, you may want to check it out. 1Up lists it as already being released, but the developer’s official site says it is unpublished as of yet and the trailer states October 2008 - other than that I cannot find it listed for pre-sale anywhere nor any more information.

Guild Wars: Spotlight on Concept Artist Daniel Dociu

Posted by Shawn on Sunday, April 27th, 2008 at 5:32 pm under Computer, Game Companies, Game Platforms, Games, Guild Wars, NCsoft

guildwars_petrifiedtree.jpg
There’s an interview with Daniel Dociu whose distinctive art style is featured as concept art for Guild Wars. He’s found he enjoys working on video games because of the flexibility an artist have within the medium.

Dociu particular forte is architecture. As any player can see from the settings of Guild Wars and its expansions, Dociu is particularly influenced by many styles of architecture, and his work is quite eclectic.

I look back all the way to the dawn of mankind: to ruins, and Greek architecture, and Mycenean architecture, all the way up to the architecture of the Crusades, and castles in North Africa, and the Romanesque and Gothic and Baroque and Rococo – even to neo-Classical and art deco and Bauhaus and Modernist. I mean, there are bits and pieces here and there that make a strong impression on me, and I blend them – but that’s the beauty of games. You don’t have to be stylistically pure, or even coherent.

Incidentally, Daniel Dociu’s concept art and Simon Fowler’s photography were beautifully combined for use with Sarah Brightman’s latest release, “Symphony.” Dociu’s art is also used in the trailer for the CD. For more information, check out the Gaming Today article on the collaboration.

baroque

Coming to the PS2 and the Wii on April 9th is Baroque. In this unique RPG, if your character dies, it only furthers the stroyline. I don’t know what happens if you don’t die, but maybe that is all part of the plot twist. Anyway, the new screens that Atlus USA sent us today are gotherific, so depressed emo middle school kids should love this game - maybe even some old school Cure fans can get something out of it as well.

Storyline: You awaken to find the world in ruin, your heart beset with unexplained guilt. A cataclysm has destroyed the cities and empires of men and disfigured the spirit of humanity. In this nightmare, it falls to you to descend a mysterious tower in search of absolution. Battle merciless foes through treacherous dungeons, scour for new items to aid you in your travels, and unlock the secrets of a devastated land. You will find death in the depths, yet learn that death is not the end of the story; in the twisted world of Baroque.

Yes, I tacked the evil laugh onto the end of the story synopsis, but it just seemed like it boded well for it to end that way.

Atlus USA has designed an RPG that is slightly different from what is considered normal. Just to give you one example, in one dungeon level of Baroque, your character “The Protagonist”, will venture into a demented tower where the dungeon changes as you proceed. So if you have cleared a level in it and go back, it may look totally different than it did before. Also, when you die, it furthers the storyline and more secrets about this strange world are unfolded. Sounds interesting to say the least.

Baroque is expected to arrive in retail stores on April 9 and will available for the PS2 and Wii. For more information, check out the official website.

New Screens for Baroque, the Emo-est of All RPGs

There’s a batch of new screenshots up for Atlus’ new RPG, Baroque, which comes out on April 8 for the PS2 and Wii. Before knowing anything at all about this game, I took one look at these screens and immediately thought “emo.” From the dark imagery the cheesy dialogue to the main characters hairdo, something about this game makes me think the game involves you holding a guitar and wailing into a microphone while sobbing openly. Considering the premise involves ou playing as an amnesiac whose “heart beset with unexplained guilt,” I may not be far off. You can check out more screens here.

Pre-Open Beta Test for Granado Espada

Posted by Jonathan on Wednesday, May 9th, 2007 at 11:12 am under Computer, Games

granadoespada.jpg

INFOCOMM Asia Holdings (IAH) has just started the Pre-Open Beta Testing of the hit Korean MMORPG, Granada Espada. This will be the first English version of the game available for download. Never heard of it? I don’t blame you since this is its first foray stateside. However the game has garnered a widespread following in Korea, Thailand, and Singapore. It was developed by Hakkyu Kim, the creator of Ragnarok Online, and won Best Game of 2006 in the 2006 Korean Game Awards.

Granado Espada is a fantasy-style RPG with a 17th century colonial twist. The game takes place in the newly discovered continent of Granada Espada, where treasure and adventure await. Much of the architecture in the game is similar to the Baroque styles of Europe. What really distinguishes this MMORPG from others of it’s kind though is the Multiple Character Control system. Instead of controlling only one character at a time, the player can control a party of up to three characters. You’ll also be able to recruit several NPC characters, which can even be traded to other players.

The official launch is set for May 17.
