Spider-Man: Web of Shadows Trailer

It was bound to happen sooner or later; you just can’t go six months without a new Spider-man game being announced. Activision has revealed the next game to star Marvel’s famous wall-crawler with Spider-man: Web of Shadows. I guess I need to read up on my Spider-man lore, because I have almost no idea what’s going on in the trailer. It looks like the alien goo that created Venom is back and taking over the whole city somehow. Let’s just hope this isn’t another hasty project, like Spider-man: Friend or Foe.

Activision has announced record sales for its financial Q2 showing a 69% increase over the same quarter in the previous fiscal year. Chairman Robert Kotick commented the quarter’s earnings were the highest in Activision’s history. He also attributes some of the success to the acquisition of Bizarre Creations.

CEO Mike Griffith said Activision shipped more units of Guitar Hero III than any other game in it’s history.

“Within the first seven days, consumer sell through was more than $100 million in North America alone — our largest product launch ever,” he said.

Activision is also forecasting third quarter net revenues exceeding $1 billion. Titles due for release include the Bee Movie Game in connection with DreamWorks Animation’s theatrical release; Enemy Territory: Quake Wars in North America; Spider-Man: Friend or Foe; and Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground. In particular, the company is banking on the success of recently released titles Guitar Hero III and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

Kotick is mirroring the warning of EA’s John Riccitiello regarding Rock Band estimating that Activision may not be able to meet the demand for Guitar Hero III this holiday season.

“Given initial consumer demand, it’s possible demand will outstrip supply across all platforms before Christmas. To help ensure we continue momentum, we have over 30,000 in-store kiosks where consumers can demo the game, more than triple the number of kiosks we had last year.”

Another weekend is here, and since most of us have nothing else better to do Gaming Today has three different demos to help sustain the boredom for another day or two.

  • The first one is Spider-Man: Friend or Foe which allows you play as Spider-Man, Green Goblin or Venom in the Tokyo Rooftops level, and take on Doc Ock in the Tokyo Secret Labs level.
  • We also have a Stranglehold demo where you get to play one level of this third-person action title.
  • Then last, but not least, for your enjoyment we have a demo for Lost Planet: Extreme Condition updated with DirectX 10 for our Vista users out there which features two levels: the Akrid hive and the pirate fortress.

You can get these demos by clicking on the links above, or if you would rather click on those nifty little badges we provide, they are posted after the jump. Enjoy your demos, and try to stave off the carpal tunnel until the holiday releases come full swing.

Spider-Man: Friend or Foe Demo on Live

spider man friend or foe Spider Man: Friend or Foe Demo on Live

Destroying all good sense and comic book story arcs, Spider-Man teams up with his enemies to take down another enemy in Friend or Foe. To me, the concept seems utterly stupid, but that’s just one man’s take. What matters is if the game is any fun, and you can decide for yourself by checking out the Xbox Live Marketplace for a demo of the game.

In a manner similar to Marvel Ultimate Alliance, you’ll be able to grab a sidekick and take control of either character as you play through the game. Or, take advantage of co-op and have a friend take control of your partner – but unfortunately you’ll need to do it in person, as Friend or Foe doesn’t support online play.

You won’t be destroying those comic book story arcs until October 2, so you’ll have plenty of time to decide whether or not it’s worth the cash.

Spider-Man: Friend or Foe to Hit Shelves This Fall

My Spidey Sense is Tingling

While Spider-Man woos Chicklets Teeth, I mean Kirsten Dunst – and smashes box-office records, a new Spider-Man game is in the works. Activision has not even let the dust settle on the newest installment in the game franchise, and has: Spider-Man: Friend or Foe in development as we speak. Not much is known as far as content or consoles, but it should be on shelves sometime this Fall. Don’t hold your breath though – game developers have been known to change release dates in the past. Can you say “Twilight Princess”?
