Zero Punctuation Eviscerates F.E.A.R. Perseus Mandate

After a week away in sunny California, Yahtzee Croshaw is back to doing what he hates, but the rest of us love: stomping all over new games. This week he tackles the latest F.E.A.R. expansion, Perseus Mandate. His trip doesn’t seem to have softened his feelings towards repetitive games in the least, since this is definitely one of his funnier videos. Be sure to watch all the way through the credits for a personal message from Yahtzee to the guy who parodied his style to review “Trilby: The Art of Theft.”

The package will combine both F.E.A.R. expansions — Extraction Point and the new Perseus Mandate — into one product, but the demo showcases a portion of Extraction Point. You’ll be able to play through a part of it and battle a few enemies, both old and new. Fans of the first game will enjoy the familiar effects and smart enemy A.I., as well as the trademark creepy moments. You can download the demo right now through Xbox Live.

Project Origin Trailer

Project Origin Exclusive Debut HD Trailer @ Gametrailers.com

Gametrailers have just put up an exclusive trailer to the F.E.A.R. sequel showing off some of the first in-game footage we’ve seen. Not to be confused with the expansion F.E.A.R. Perseus Mandate, Project Origin represents a true sequel to F.E.A.R.

Since Vivendi Games owns the rights to the title F.E.A.R., Monolith was forced to rename the sequel after deciding to change publisher. The title Project Origin was actually taken from a contest directed by Monolith to dub the F.E.A.R. sequel. You can read all about the origins of Project Origin at the game’s official website. The game (for PC, Xbox 360, & PS3) won’t see light of day until 2008.

Don’t know about you, but so far the game looks just like the PC version F.E.A.R. with all the graphics settings cranked and some next-gen effects (motion blur) thrown in. Kind of a disappointing trailer in that regards. Let’s hope the gameplay differs enough to not seem like just another expansion.

FEAR Files Trailer (HD)

Now here’s something I wish were coming out for PC as well. This new trailer shows off the action you can expect in F.E.A.R. Files for the Xbox 360. The game will combine both F.E.A.R. standalone expansions — Extraction Point and Perseus Mandate — into one terrifying package. As you can see, the action and visuals remain as visceral as ever, making this a definite must-buy for F.E.A.R. fans.

FEAR Perseus Mandate Trailer (QT)

Vivendi has unveiled this new trailer for the second standalone expansion for F.E.A.R., the hit FPS that scared the bejeezus out of gamers everywhere. In Perseus Mandate, players will fight alongside another team sent into Armacham. The storyline will run parallel to the events in the original game and Extraction Point, but will have you facing new enemies and using new weapons. It’s probably safe to say that this new game will also scare the living poop out of you. Look for Perseus Mandate to hit PCs later this year.

E3 2007: A Closer Look at F.E.A.R.: Perseus Mandate

FEAR: Perseus Mandate ScreenshotLet me go ahead and answer your first question. It’s not the as yet unnamed F.E.A.R. 2. What is it? It’s an upcoming standalone expansion for the original game. While the PC version will be a standalone purchase, the XBox 360 version will be available as part of F.E.A.R. Files. Both of these titles are scheduled to ship this fall, and both will include multiplayer support.

While visiting Sierra’s booth here at E3, I got the chance to sit down and get a look at Perseus Mandate. If you’ve been playing F.E.A.R., you know the general formula. You’re back on the job as part of the First Encounter Assault Recon team. While searching for your missing teammates, you encounter a lot of spooky supernatural beings that are trying to kill you. Sound familiar?
