Scratched Discs Found in Halo 3 Limited Edition

A poster over at the NeoGaf forums is reporting that the tin box for the Limited Edition of Halo 3 seems to be scratching up a lot of game discs. Apparently, a design flaw with the plastic button holding the disc in place can cause it to become loose during shipping, so that both discs rattle around in the case, scratching them up completely. This doesn’t seem to make the game unplayable, but for $75, you’re probably going to want a copy that’s in perfect condition. The poster claims that someone opened three copies and found them all in the same condition. A writer over at Wired’s Game Blog has reported the same for their own copy, so this probably won’t be the last we hear of this. Word to the wise: if you’re getting the limited edition of the game at midnight tonight, be sure to open that package up before you leave the store. Hope Microsoft shipped enough copies to cover replacements. Few things are more annoying than spending money on broken goods.

let’s just hope this doesn’t turn out to be a massive problem with the release. I can honestly see violence breaking out at midnight over this.
Microsoft attempts to cut production costs by shipping shitty products, and keep higher profits…
After the long awaited game, something like this happens. I can see in my minds eye a riot outside the Microsoft offices…
Return the damn thing. If my Halo 3 disk is scratched there will be violence. I have ordered the basic copy, no fancy multidisk or helmet edition. If i hear a rattle in the box before i crack the seal, ill demand a new one.
I defently can see anyone forking over the cash for a premimum edition of Halo 3 and getting a scratched disk loose it. They will ask questions with their fists. and get answers with some rioting.
The only problem with the idea of ‘return it.’ is that you’re assuming the store has an endless stock, while in the situation of gamestop, they only have x number because x number preordered it.
demand a new one, it doesn’t mean you’ll get it.
limited stock.
Damn, I pre ordered mine too, REALLY Hope its not damaged else i will really sue microsoft for making me 75$ lighter
lol
Looking at that picture it looks fairly easy to fix those light scratches with a Skip DR disc repair system or similar. Mine usually fixes things like that.
Mild scratches on mine and my 2 friends copies, but they all seem to work fine…
I can verify this. I bought mine at Wallmart at midnight (I was third in line) and both discs were scratched and loose in the box. They were all scratched up. I took them back to Wallmart, but they said they couldn’t refund me because of the anti-piracy laws. They swapped my copy with five other copies, which all had scratches on both discs. They were shaking the cases to hear if they were loose before they opened them. They all rattled. I ended up taking home scratched discs. I hope Microsoft replaces these! If anyone has info about how we can get these replaced, please post it here! I also wanted to point out that everyone else there was unsuccessfully trying to bring back their Halo 3 Limited Edition discs too. I am just glad that I didn’t live more than 30min away from the store.
as long as they aren’t deep scratches, it shouldn’t be a big issue. If they are mild like somewhat put it, there shouldn’t be an issue.. you can probably buff out the scratches easily.
I work at a game shop and EVERY copy we had was loose like this and all scratched! We are shipping them back and expect our money back! THANKS BILL!!!!
