SCEA Pulls PS3 Firmware 2.4 After Bricking Consoles?

This is not an image PS3 owners ever wanted to see.
Having PS3 firmware fatigue? I don’t blame you, but the news seems to just keep coming. Gaming Today commenter ANGRY (I don’t know if you’re someone else and just using that name because you’re pissed off, but nevertheless) linked to the European PlayStation tech support forums, where a number of users are reporting problems after having upgraded their system’s firmware to version 2.40. While both Daniel and I have been fine, if you believe the reports on the PlayStation Boards (the US ones, too) the update is bricking PlayStation 3 systems.
To back up those claims, Kotaku is reporting that Sony Computer Entertainment America has pulled the 2.4 firmware. We’ll have more on this as it develops.
All my buddies are on using it, mine works great I have a launch unit. When things like this happen people always freak out but those people on the blogs and such are having problems and talking about it, while most of us are enjoying the update and our games.

No problems here either, well not really..it went wierd once but everything is 100% now.
My only issue is that they pulled the update before I could download it
My 60GB PLAYSTATION 3 works flawlessly with firmware version 2.40. And all my friends just upgraded some have 40 0r 80 gb models non of them have problems.
I couldn’t download, I just wanna know if My Ps3 Had What it take to survive it
It doesn’t brick any consoles newbs, god damn. The issue was a small percentage of folks (with certain data on their hard drives) got corrupted which required you to format the drive to get it to boot up again. Not a big deal if you back up your saves (which you should every so often).
This certainly wasn’t epic failure Microsoft style, that’s for sure. But yes it somewhat sucked if you were one of the unlucky few. My 60GB works fine with 2.40 however.
People with a Non Booting PS3 and a PC with spare SATA port try this.
1)Remove the HDD from the PS3 and connect it to your PC,
2)Boot the PC and once in windows quick format the drive to NTFS.
3)Replace drive in PS3 after format and boot, PS3 will ask to format the HDD.
4)Format.
Now it should boot on 2.40
This is for the people who do not want to wait a few days to get another PS3, seems to have been sucessful on the US forums
