Sarah Michelle Gellar Says She’s “Still Working” on Movie Adaptation of American McGee’s Alice

I must’ve missed the news awhile back that Sarah Michelle Gellar had picked up the film rights to American McGee’s Alice, the dark video game version of the Alice in Wonderland tale. She’s not exactly someone I would’ve expected to have the game’s movie license, but at least someone’s working on getting a movie adaptation made. And apparently she recently stated that she intends to see the film made, despite some prior setbacks due to a “regime change” at Universal. Nevertheless, she call it her “passion project” and is still trying to get the film made somehow:
“It’s still my project, and I’m still working diligently. So to all those Alice fans, I’m not giving up. Because I believe there is such a beautiful, crazy, cool, twisted story to be told there.”
I’d forgotten they were even working on a film, but it still sounds like a good idea. At least then they’d be starting with a video game that actually has an interesting story. Of course, the ongoing writers strike is probably going to delay even the possibility of the movie even more.

At least Uwe Boll is no where to be seen
I’d watch it, with the sound off.
*shrugs*
You know, i doubt many people are going to care.
Don’t get me wrong Alice was a decent if a bit repetitive game but i think when all is said and done it’s going to look and feel like a slasher movie with little depth.

That depends greatly on who the director is. I thought Sarah Michelle Geller would be perfect for the role and in an ideal world I would get Guillermo del Toro directing.
Ha, I just found out about this now myself. At least after seeing a commercial for American McGee’s Grimm.. anyhoo… I would love to see this turned into a movie, but not with Gellar. I don’t even want her acting in it at all, and if she thinks she can be Alice, forget it!
Sorry to any, um.. Buffy fans out there
, but as an Alice fan, I don’t want Gellar. Choose someone totally obscure, but make it work!
Maybe my expectations are a little high, and with the way video games-turned-movies usually goes… *ahem* (DOA and Mortal Kombat), who knows if this’ll actually turn out the way it should.
In any case.. I’m totally gonna watch Marilyn Manson’s Lewis Carroll movie.
Hopefully it actually meets up to its hype, or whatever.
(oh, but after seeing how awesome Pan’s Labrynth and Hellboy2 turned out.. I wholly agree with norbit.
Guillermo del Toro should direct.
(but so should American McGee, cuz it’s his after all) and no CGI! There’s too much of it and everyone knows the difference!
Those graphics are not impressive! (for movies)

I completely agree that Sarah Michelle Gellar is far too perky to pull off the role of Alice. They need to cast someone darker. The rumors I have heard are that Tim Burton will be directing, with the possibility of Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter. It is supposed to be released next year. If that turns out to be wrong then I think Guillermo Del Toro would be the next best person. I just can’t handle seeing Sarah Michelle Gellar ruin yet another perfectly good character like she did on Buffy the T.V. show.
estaria super genial que sacaran la pelicula, el juego me encanto y apesar de que ya lo he acavado tantas veces sigo jugandolo… sigue luchando por hacer la pelicula.
i actaully think she will be good for the role, and im not basing this on buffy or the grudge, wich she wasn’t bad in either, but i have recently caught some other movies with her in it and they were more recent and showed another side to her that shes been working on. an actor must adapt and bring out the character and with as much passion she has for this one, i think it will work and she will give it justice. and the director on this one is wes craven. at least its a twisted mind. can’t wait for more news, its been a while since they started this in 2001.
