360slim Rumor: Xbox 360 Slim Coming in 2009?Hardware revisions are constantly going on underneath the hood of the Xbox 360 (as well as the competition), and while this August will be bringing about a system comprised of all 65nm parts (known as “Jasper”), next year could see a much more drastic change.

According to TG Daily, the Valhalla chip will be the foundation of the mid-cycle refresh for the system (think Xbox 2.5 or Xbox 540). The chip will contain the CPU, GPU, and eDRAM when it’s produced next year, which could allow Microsoft to redesign the system a la the PS2 slimline.

That’s purely speculation, but it would make sense for Microsoft given the notorious Red Rings of Death that are associated with the current box. A redesign and newer components could help change that perception. Couple that with a price drop(s), and the Xbox’s future looks fairly bright.

That’s uselss lol? there so stupid

  2. Evismang says:

Obviously Norbit’s Bro doesn’t know what he’s talking about. This would be a very good move for Microsoft. Especially if it wasn’t concave like the original 360. That limits airflow a little bit, helping to cause RROD.

And Norbit’s Bro, how is that useless? Sony did it with the PS2. Nintendo made the Wii smaller than the Gamecube. Smaller components allow for more effective airflow and a smaller case, which allows for gamers that don’t have a lot of space to be able to put the system in their set-up as well.

  3. Jonathan says:

it’d be kinda cool, but I have a feeling it’ll have some serious overheating issues

  4. The Man says:

    They’re.

And actually if you look at the PS2 slim’s profits it makes sense.

Please dont make your ‘bro’ look stupid. He is rather intelligent – however misguided he might seem.

  5. Evismang says:

    @Jonathan

Well if everything is on a 65nm chip instead of 90nm like the launch 360, then they’ll generate less heat and require less electricity. And also, the current design of the 360, the way it’s curved, stops a little bit of airflow. So if it’s straight like the picture shows, and they’re 65nm, then it’s likely that the slim 360 will totally eliminate RROD. Especially if they use better soldering. That’s the main cause of the rings.

  6. The Dunce says:

I think it doesn’t look all that great unless they make a hard drive slim that goes on the shorter half of it that evens out with the other half.

  7. Adrian says:

Wow, That’ll probably crack in a second!
    stupid.

  8. Xboxlenny says:

being a 360 is great, however i dont like the look of it, people wil say is that a PS2? i dont want to insult the Xbox 360 with that title, however the PS2 is a awesome console in its day and still selling like mad.

  9. ccchris says:

Why wouldn’t they use the 45nm chips?

  10. lazyboy says:

That’s not a real concept render, guys. it’s a quick mockup of the PS2 slim to ‘illustrate’ a slim 360, the picture means ABSOLUTELY nothing.
