xbox 360 divx Rumor: Xbox 360 Getting DivX, TooAlright, so the PlayStation 3 is getting DivX support, as we learned earlier today, so what about the Xbox 360? It’s been streaming all sorts of media to your television for quite a long time now, so what are the chances of it getting DivX support?

According to Electronista, the chances are good and DivX support is coming to Microsoft’s console. At a JP Morgan conference, an analyst was able to catch Kevin Hell off-guard and got him to slip-up and inadvertently give credence to the idea that DivX support is coming. It’s nothing concrete, but it’s probably the best support that you’ll be streaming DivX content onto your Xbox 360 soon.

Coster – “Just a minor point here, but there was a recent Microsoft (MSFT) conference where I believe their media extender now incorporates the DivX codec on it, is that correct? Can you confirm that and does that mean we’re soon going to see Xboxes with DivX on them?

Hell – “Yes! that, uh, we’re in discussions with Microsoft on that at this point in time, so I can’t go into any great detail on that. Um that is not a certified, that is not a certified or licensed product at this time.”

I don’t see why divx is even needed on consoles. I just use it to watch films on my computer from time to time.
