Rumor Squashed: No Final Fantasy VII Remake in the Works

Bad news Cloud Strife fans; looks like Square-Enix really isn’t planning on remaking Final Fantasy VII anytime soon. A Japanese gaming publication, Dorimaga, sat down with Tetsuya Nomura, a designer for Square-Enix, where he addressed the rumors:
“It appears that there are often overseas rumors like ‘Are you currently developing a VII remake?’ My apologies, but we’re absolutely not making [such a game].”
But don’t lose hope completely, true believers, Nomura didn’t totally rule it out:
“We of course know ourselves what the fans want so we’d like to continue thinking up a variety of things. As long as there are people who want to make it and people who are waiting for it, we don’t want to proclaim ‘the end.’”
So it’s not outside the realm of possibility, but it’s definitely not coming anytime soon.

The game was already made - why would you want a remake? I’d much rather have a new FF on par with seven than just another remake.

A Final Fantasy VII remake would be the only reason for me to purchase a ps3. If it came out I would buy a ps3 right now.
they just have to make a remake of FF VII its the best game ever, iv had it since it came out and i still play it to this day. The only way im ever buying a ps3 is if FFVII comes out on it, not only would square make millions but think how much sony would make from the sales of ps3’s, they could allways work together *hint hint*
Square-Enix dose not care about there customers..they keep pushing the final fantasy seres forward each game getting worse and worse the FF seres is going down hill FF12 sucks majorly what a waste that game was. Only reason it sells because is because of the name Final Fantasy. After they became Square-Enix things began to suck…I want Squaresoft back at least they knew what they were doing. I’m sure they would Remake the most legendary RPG of all time Final Fantasy 7. BTW I have seen FFXIII and im not getting the graphics look cool but I can see the Final Fantasy feel is gone.

Okay so just to let everyone know.
I was surfing the web and I came across a nifty site bearing news of a Final Fantasy 7 remake.They were passages of quotes from an interview of one the corporate something or others at Square.
It stated that thought of remaking the game WERE indeed floating through the air,and that it would be a great idea.It went on to state that progess was going to be started sometime soon and that the said game would be finished sometime within 5 to 6 years.It would be hitting the shelves for PS3 and also the PC.Just like 7 and 8,but in the remake,there would be drastic,but not damaging changes.For instance,enhanced graphics(which was a given) but also new sidequests that were going to be in the original game but taken out.New weapons and MAYBE new hidden characters that tie into the original story.Delving deeper into the crazy mysterious plot line of FF7.
Also,I still deal with alot of asses that say the game was incomplete.

Aeris-Was not supposed to be ressurected,it was never a part of the game.
Tifa-was not even supposed to be in it,what happened was Aeris was originally there from the beginning.Then one of the creators called whats his face and says.
“Hey Lets kill off Aeris,then continued to laugh”.
That way,they would have two Heroines,giving the game a nice little boost.
The materia-that you can gain from pro action replay,and game shark was actually going to be in the game.Then was taken out.
Breath Under Water Materia was there for a reason.
What really was going to happen was you could equip this materia to swim underwater,once the sub quests were completed,but there was nothing to do under there so they got rid of that.Now the only use for it is to not have a timer when fighting emerald.
No Floor Damage Materia was originally going to be in the game because there was going to be a “Dungeon” where you get hurt from walking on the ground.But that would be ridiculous,just like the old school FF games.
So you can doubt me all you want,but these are the facts.

I still only have the PS1 - I am not a hard gamer - I get addicted way too much!!!!
To show this, I have completed FF7 well over 100 times - I can finish everything - get KOTR, well, everything, kill off weapons and Sephypoos in less than 26 hours. It is the ONLY game where I bawl my eyes out every time I play it (when Aeris gets it - *sniff*).
The only reason I would buy a PS3 - and I would do this even if it meant a second mortgage - is if FF7 was remade…..
I’m sure that a fair few people still say - even though it’s 10 years old now - it’s probably the best game EVER.
I would urge all who are connected to the game that remaking it is nothing more than an absolutle win-win. We, the players would get something we’re desperate for - Square would make not just millions, but probably billions in game sales and merchandising.
Simple supply and demand…..
Please remake it - please, please, please, please (but get rid of the really long waits when your Chocobo thrashes all opponents in ‘C’ and ‘B’ classes).

In the FF7 Crisis Core Ending it says: “Will be continued in…FINAL FANTASY VII.” So, it’s going to be remaked. =D

The reason it’s an incomplete game is because there are many buggy sequences and because there were many parts of the game that were cut out from the original Japanese version. All of the things that you said, may or may not be true, but anyone who cites those are reasons for the game being incomplete is incompetant.

A remake of Final Fantasy 7 would only allow for Square to hurt you further by making the game wrong. I don’t think they’re capable of remaking FFVII, because every one expects something different. It’s been so long since it was first released, so many people hold the game so high and have different ideas of what the game is. Remaking the game would only make those people who love it, hate the remake and say the first was better, even if they followed the first completely.
I would also like to note, that while I loved FFVII I cannot play it again, it’s graphics are too poor and the mapping or pathing, seems to be very difficult to navigate as the result. Earlier games in the series are much easier to navigate despite being only 16 bit or 8 bit, because their mapping or pathing, makes much more sense and is much clearer.
an ff7 remake would be good bt it will only be released in japan, like the kingdom hearts final mix which contains all three games in one nd its immpossible to chip ps3’s so outside of japan we won’t be able to play it.
Here’s a thought…and alot of people have metioned it before, Maybe you should take a break on the new FF games. They’re getting to be not so good. You guys should be more into remaking the origionals, games that you KNOW will definately be a success. Keep the game exactly the way it was, but upgrade it with better graphics, voiceovers, something. I’m a super-fan of FF games. FFVII is and always will be the best of them all! When I hear that a FF7 remake is happening and that it’s definately going to be released, I’ll drop everything and run to the nearest game store for a PS3. Seriously, you guys have NOTHING to lose. I know I’m just another person posting on your wall, but hear me out, your the only ones who can do it. How many more people do you need to beg on their knees before this thing is gonna fly? have u guys noticed that the main boss(sephroth) is the man to kill till the end of the game ….. i mis that some how, now days the developers miss that point and have 3-4 boss’s. did u notice ff8 had 3-4 main boss’s all at the end of each disk
ff 9 i honestly dnt no who i was fighting at the end ff 10 i was fighting the controled of ’sin’ not sin himself. 12 had decent start an but killed of the first player you use with absolutely no conection with the character (just bad story good game tho) and finished fighting a god type thing. they dnt build there boss’s up like they used to

you just expect to much..you love FF7. its the best in most everyones opinion..so of course to those who are so attached to ff7 think the rest are either nice but not great or suck. all the ones i have played were all just as good as ff7 but in a different way, they were less emotional i guess but thats the only thing i can think of different other than grafix well the exception of 10-2 …x-2 was just F.U.B.A.R was to short had no story really..was a sandbox basicly. but a remake of 7 would be VERY nice…concidering in about 10 years ps1 games will be forgotten about. and if not good luck trying to find a system that can run them then

why are you all talking and hesitating for remake? i would rather play the sequel of ff vii, but NOT REMAKE. Can you imagine the same play style but with awesome graphic, plus new further storyline, summons, limit breaks, watching barret piss-off, getting new materia/magic/weapon, and most of all we want to know what happen to all places in ff 7 after several years of defeating sephiroth. Maybe sephiroth is dead, but we don’t know if there’s a new enemy, perhaps sephiroth’s clone or the rise of shinra’s corporation?
There is no use of remake. The game is not enjoyable anymore when you already know the major sequences. I am hoping for SEQUEL.(don’t tell me bout the sequel in handphone version or advent children dvd, obviously, it is for business sake!)
I too, believe that ff franchise is getting sucks. I pity the new generation that play the present ff, they don’t feel what we feel back then.

hi im a very big FFVII fan and i have completed it quite alot. i htink they should remake the game as the graphics will be better and they would thn be able to talk it saves you squinting ur eyes after 10 hours playing it to read the dam things lol.
to be honest its 50/50 as some people will love th new game and others of the older generation will prefer the old one for its originality, i do not have a ps3 at all i rufuse to buy one untill they have re-made FFVII. i have to admit tho i would like to see more of Zack. and more of sephiroth killing people and cloud saving the day
i played dirge of cerbaras and thort it was good and enjopyed it alot and i still play it and they have done and exalant job on it but like all games there is always room for improvments. i will buy it if they re-make it but i will not judge it as there is such a big gap in years when they made number 7 you just couldnt really judge it

@ Mrs.ShinRa: I don’t completely agree with you, but you are entitled to your opinion. I think you missed the main story in Final Fantasy VII and will address that in another message.
For all of you who have played Crisis Core (CC), the secret ending can be taken as a teaser for a remake OR eluding to the fact that the rest of the story picks up on the original FFVII. (I just beat CC and cried like the fan girl that I am.) Side note here for those that didn’t notice, but the secret ending in CC (which isn’t so secret because it is after the credits) and the PS3 teaser are completely different.
I can agree with what most people have said about a remake. I personally think that is boils down to a few things.
One, in the topic excerpt above, it sounds to me like that the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII (CFFVII) team wants to expand on to as many different platforms as possible to reach the highest number of players finacially. Reasoning for this is the number of prequels and sequels they have made on various platforms; four games and two films to be exact. I am not sure what else they can expand into but it has been stated, by Square Enix president Y?ichi Wada, that the team will continue working on games under the FFVII name and world until the twentieth anniversary of the original release.
Two, in mid 2006 (keep in mind that only the PS3 technical demo and Advent Children were out, everything else know about in the makings.), it was said by Square Enix “We have confirmed that FFXIII is under development, but has NOT confirmed a FFVII remake at any time. The remake has been a popular subject for rumors, but that’s all they are. Obviously, the Best Buy listing was made in error.”
Three, Square Enix already has plans for the PS3. Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Final Fantasy XIII; both which are part of the Fabula Nova Crysallis: Final Fantasy XIII. Also you have to look at all of the games the just released too.
And lastly if they really are going to remake VII, the are going to wait until the twentieth anniversary. Look at what waiting as done for them so far. I personally pray, to whatever deity fuels the CFFVII team, that there will be a remake of VII.
I am actually going to bed as I obsessively played Crisis Core until I won. I shall return after much needed sleep to propose the true story of FFVII and how the other games in the Compilation enhance its true meaning. (Hint Hint!) ^_~

Cloud fights his inner demons and wins thus brining him back to full strenght allowing him to defeat spehiroth physically, mentally and emotionally second and for all. sephiroth is gone to him. sephiroth will live but no longer haunt in his past. crisis core is a tragic romeo and juliet style psp game with an ff7 twist. it sheds light on a young man naked zack fair and his dream to succeed. it was simple. he wasnt trying to save the world. just a peak into a yung mans dreams. but it had that wierd this shits about to get really really big later on feel which made it feel so iconic and different. it was pretty fun. so shut up mrs. shinra. i think you never even played ff7

FF isn’t as big as Dungeon Siege in Japan, so it probably isn’t a huge surprise.
I think the majority of people, however much it seems otherwise, want them to just continue the series.
I would love to see it because the graphics obviously then didn’t do it justice, but I’ve heard just as many people say they want an FF8 remake.

My older brother says that there should be a part 4. FFVII was Part 1, AC was Part 2, DOC was Part 3.
At the end of DOC, Genesis said to Weiss, “This is not the end.” Or something like that. I dunno.

Well I believe that Square Enix WILL make a Final Fantasy VII remake. They have already worked on concept box art for it. As far as Japan only, yes that would really suck, but if that were to happen I’ll buy a PS3 and mod it with a custom firmware just like I did my PSP when the Japanese version of Crisis Core came out.
