ps3 boomerang Rumor: Sony Working on New Motion Controller, and its Not Break Apart

On Friday, GamesIndustry.biz reported on a rumor that Sony was at work on a new controller for the PS3 which would be able to “break apart” into two separate parts, each containing an accelerometer. (Can you say Wiimote-Nunchuk ripoff?) According to the story, there was no indication as to when the controller might be revealed, but working controllers had purportedly been sent out to developers already.

Naturally, Sony declined to comment on the story, just as you’d expect them too. Kotaku has since run a story that cites an anonymous industry source that claims the “break apart” controller rumor isn’t quite accurate — but that isn’t to say there isn’t a new type of controller in development.

The source claims the controller has several smaller parts which can attach to the body; one on each of your hands, for instance. It’s been some time since the tech had been seen, so it may be more advanced now, but the source doesn’t believe the rumor that the parts come together in the form of a controller. Because that’s just silly.

Sony, of course, declined to comment on these rumors. But given that at least two different sources leaked this information, it seems pretty likely that there is indeed some new sort of controller being developed. Hopefully we’ll find out more next month at E3.

Everything is a ripoff these days anyway and I’m sick of it. Especially in games.
