360 motion controller Rumor: Motion Sensing Controllers Coming to Xbox 360

We’ve heard rumblings of such a possibility in the past, although with time all of the previous rumors were proven false. The latest rumor states that Microsoft has contracted Gyration to develop the peripheral – the same company responsible for the Wiimote’s prototype designs.

When Sony revealed the Sixaxis controller, the Xbox 360 suddenly became the fish out of water as it was the only current-gen home console without any sort of motion control. Given that it looks good on a fact sheet and a feature list, it seemed like only a matter of time before Microsoft steps up to the plate and calls Sony and Nintendo’s move.

Personally, I’m not crossing my fingers. Most every PlayStation 3 game’s Sixaxis control hasn’t felt right to me, and I don’t see why games on 360 would be any different. Although, for the sake of folks that share my sentiment, developers would likely be forced to accommodate for users who don’t want to use any sort of motion control (given that all of the current controllers don’t support it), so there isn’t much to worry about for the controller purist.

How about that ‘360 degrees of control’ line, though? Man, I wish I knew how to trademark something.

You have not played Ratchet And Clank Future on the PS3 then, it has many parts with motion sensing and is one of the best games out there right now..

  2. Chris says:

Dave, I have played Ratchet and I feel like the freefall segments are only there BECAUSE of Sixaxis, and controlling the tornado gun is just a mess when trying to keep yourself oriented at the same time.

Motion control in a traditional controller just doesn’t make much sense.
