halo 3 1 Rumor: Microsoft Working on Next Gen First Party SequelThe latest issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly is reporting on a rumor that Microsoft is already at work on a sequel to one of its first party games for the Xbox 360’s successor. A mole at Microsoft told this to the Q-man who is always reliable about his rumors. The concept isn’t so far-fetched, so it’s really not too hard to imagine that this is a reliable rumor. Development was originally planned for the Xbox 360, but was then moved onto the next system.

As for what the game could be, we’re left to speculate. There are a number of games that could fit the bill, but I’d be willing to bet any amount of money that it’s a new Halo game. Microsoft, I’m sure, would have loved to see Halo 3 launch alongside the Xbox 360, so trying to have Halo 4 ready for the neXtbox is perfectly plausible.

What do you think it could be?

I’m not really all that excited about the next generation of consoles. I think Microsoft abandoned the original Xbox too quickly and they will probably abandon the 360 before it’s potential is even met. It’s sad that companies have to keep releasing new consoles to compete with other companies. I’d love to see a day where a console lasts more than 4 or 5 years. The games on the current generation consoles still have yet to tap into the full power of the consoles, so I don’t see why there should be any rush for a new system… but oh well.. it’s going to happen anyway.

You should come and live in Sonyland. Its a magical place where the average console lifespan is currently 9 years+

Microsoft had no choice with the last xbox. The graphics card company was very unhelpful from what I’ve heard and actually demanding by litigation the halt of sales of the xbox. Hence next generation new partner company.

It’s not another Halo Game, because Bungie isn’t first party.

    Well then, give this information:
    Halo: Chronicles
    Main article: Halo: Chronicles
Halo: Chronicles, originally announced on September 27, 2006 at X06 as an untitled project, will be a ‘new trilogy’ of Halo games. These titles are to be co-written, co-designed and co-produced by Peter Jackson, with his recently-formed Wingnut Interactive. The series has been confirmed to be episodic.

I suppose they are working on a new trilogy of halos past the rts..
But will this be for the nextbox? I can only assume so.
Jeeze, given information from wikipedia (also, wingnut studios is a microsoft game studios thing..) this whole news post just seems silly.

weclock, If I were a betting man, I’d place all bets on Halo 4. What other title could possibly be a huge launch game for the next Xbox? Bungie may no longer be 1st party as you mentioned, but they are still connected. Bungie wanted to branch out into other games, but they will certainly be working hand-in-hand with Microsoft on the next Halo.

Marathon, by Durandal. Featuring Master Chief.

    What, it could happen?
