RUMOR: Future Xbox Console Coming in 2010 – Achievements to Carry Over
By Stephany on Tuesday, May 13th, 2008 at 10:34 AM PST In Game Companies, Game Consoles, Gamer Life, Games Industry, Microsoft, Microsoft

The June issue of Game Informer has not even hit shelves yet and sites all over the place are already exposing its supposed contents. While this does kind of ruin your anticipation for the mag if you are a subscriber, it gives news junkies something to do in the meantime.
Supposedly in the new issue, Microsoft dishes their future plans for the next Xbox which is slated for a 2010 release. That soon, huh – greedy bastards. The best news about this though is for achievement junkies because those hard earned bragging rights will be carried over onto the new system.
The GI issue also states that the new Nintendo system will launch in 2010 and the new PS system in 2012. I don’t know about you guys, but I am getting pretty damn sick and tired of dropping hundred of dollars on new consoles every few years and I still do not even have a PS3 yet. No wonder the PC has so many fans – upgrading a PC is so much easier.

Son of a bitch..because I am made of money right?
But if this is true then I guess so much for Sony’s ten year plan for the PS3 eh?
Go Marlins!!!!
I wasn’t aware someone at Microsoft (or Sony or Nintendo) was going around holding a gun to people’s heads forcing them to buy the new console as soon as it comes out. If you don’t like the behavior, vote with your wallet.
Lol funny photoshoping on the picture XD
What did it really say?
~Death Dream~
I have no idea, and I cannot take credit for it either DeathDream, but I seem to recall seeing it someplace with the caption “I didn’t do it”.
Let me clarify here, I wish that console manufacturers would exploit all of the potential in the current generation of consoles before they go and create all new ones……that is what I meant to say.
Go Marlins!!!!
@ ManOfTeal
Are you really that dumb? They said they want it to have a 10 year lifespan. WTF does that have to do with this story? Launching the PS4 doesn’t make the PS3 disappear
This inst Microsoft. In case you hadn’t noticed Sony kept producing the PS1 for 6 years after the PS2 was launched and they are still selling the PS2 over a year after the launch of the PS3 with no signs of stopping. Thats the business model that has eared them so much success and why they have sold more home consoles in 14 years than Nintendo have in 30.
On average they release a new console every 6 years so 2012 is the obvious release date for them.
PS1 Dec 1994
PS2 March 2000
PS3 Nov 2006
PS4 ? 2012
I see you posted again while I was writing my response. Funny that ‘what you meant to say’ bears absolutely no relation to the inane Sony hating shit that you did say
LOL, I can promise I wont be buying any of these systems any time soon. I already got a PS3, Wii, and owned an 360. It is way too soon for them to even be thinking about making any new systems.
Norbit, you and ManOfTeal really need to take the gloves off, seriously.
haha… upgrading a PC “is so much easier”. Where has this guy been?
yeah aside from buying a new graphics card every few months and then doing a complete overhaul when games like crysis come out… yeah it’s pretty cheap.
Yes, upgrading a PC is easier and as far as upgrading to a new graphics card every six months, you are either being sarcastic or are not buying very good ones. My PC will be two this year, and aside from driver updates, have not had to upgrade anything. Plus, I have not had a hard time playing any game I wish – and no, I am not talking about Jewel Quest either
@Stephany,
I hate it when you are mad at me.
My gloves have been off, it’s the other side that is still fighting the war.
@xXGr4veXx
“haha… upgrading a PC “is so much easier”. Where has this guy been?”
Was it Stephany’s picture in the top, left hand corner of the article, or the fact that her name is, “Stephany” that lead you to believe that she was a “guy”?
Go Marlins!!!!
Upgrading a PC is painfully simple. Heck, you con buy all your components and build a PC from scratch in less than an hour. These days, it takes longer to install the new drivers than it does to install a new card.
As far as how often you need to upgrade, it’s simple. If you’re not one of those “I MUST HAVE ALL THE NEWEST TECH” morons, then you need a new card about every two years. You can stretch them out longer if you do one of two things:
1. Spend more money up front
2. Deal with graphics not running on Ultra High settings.
I’m not talking about 2 years on a bleeding edge card either, but two years on a decent mid range card that runs $225 – $250.
Why so soon??? wtf I JUST got a 360 and I’m getting a ps3 soon… (I already own a wii). This sucks, the 360 should last long, at least until 2015 or something.
norbit shut your face, why are you alway ignorant to people for their opinions. You are so PS3 you should marry one, i dont think you even own one yet? I bought one the other day and i have to admit its a great system and has alot of features that even out weigh the 360. However its still hurtin for games and the online dont compare to the 360. im sick of your lame facts that no one cares on.
Manofteal your comments are just, i agree. it sucks if moneysoft will release another console so soon, there is no need. But u know they will when the time is right.
And i doubt the PS3 will realy have a 10 year plan, only suckers would beleive that. if moneysoft releases a new console people will see the PS3 as second class, so norbit dont be calling people
dumb we all are entitled to our say, Maby when you own a PS3 you can comment on it, I own both, sofar in the games department. Xbox 360 is where its at. Yes the PS3 had many of the same great games and exclusives but it a Blu-ray player for me now, maby that will change someday, but i dont need people like you telling me or anyone else why. As gamers we make that decision our self on what to play.
Enjoy.!!
@xXGr4veXx And anyone else that says that PCs are hard to upkeep
I’m running a PNY XLR8 8800 GT 512MB graphics card And it plays every thing really well I have had my computer for 2 years and have only put like $200 in it. And I plan on keeping it for another two years with only putting $200 in it.
Crysis = 25 FPS on high Med is around 41
COH = 60 FPS on vary high
Half Life 2 EP 2 = 55 FPS on The highest they will go.
res = 1600 by 1050
P.S I own a PS3 and a 360.
@ ManOfTeal: I am not mad at you or Norbit
@Housemaster
So in 4 years you will have spent $400.. and that’s less than a new game system how? And in only 4 years. It all depends on when you bought in. Unlike PC’s you don’t have as smooth a gradient.. as many options between A and B, but cost-wise it seems to be a wash and stability/complexity-wise it definitely favors the game systems. And that’s not mentioning the initial cost of the system if it is over $400.
Of course if you use your PC for other stuff.. you know like typing crap well.. that may change the dynamic a bit
stop complaining why sooo soon they are taking out a new console! htat’s actually great news! For those who dont own a stupid console and use PC’s it wont affect us. Its good since xbox 360 sucks anyway its hardware lasts bout 6-12months until u get the 3 rings of death, and talk bout ps3 pre-fabrication issues and freezes, hell they ought to take a new console just to fix all those probs!
anyway, call of duty 4 is the best.
cheers,
typical… with the continuous advancement of new technologies out there, it makes sense to produce a new system of console gaming every couple of years.
They should come up with new consoles more often. One significant reason – PCs today are much more powerfull than consoles, but most of the games that come out are weak graphically, because they are designed for weak/outdated xbox360/PS3. So we PC gamers are forced to play the games that do not fully utilize our PC hardware, and that sucks. Shaders 4 have been in existance for already a few years, yet most of the games use shaders 3 thanks to consoles. I am really looking forward for a new Directx11 (shader 5) console, that’s when the games will be trully next gen with stunning graphics, for all of us – console and PC gamers.
i dont have a 360,
but i want one, should i just go buy it, ir wait tell the new concoles comeout (xbox series, i hate playstation serios),
i need help canm some one reply please
I wanted one too I have been thinking of either buying a new ipod touch or a 360. They have lowered the pricing but I still have my doubts about it I am patient i would say I am going too wait for the new conosoles because the 360 will only keep on going for about 5 years then no one will buy one.
That soon filthy dum assses im not droppin that much money . But the future consoles may be better the wii 2 is set to use brain control,ps4 uses the same system as the wii , xbox (rumered to be called xbox 720 or xbox 360 2 or maybe somthin else) dreamcast is set to release somthin aswell dreamcast deluxe and maybe we might even see consoles from samsung pairin up with sega and gizmondo.
They can bring out the console when ever they like, the fact is, it will bot be ‘READY’ until two years after the release date. EG: the RROD
I was happy with my PS2 for the last 2 years whilst MS fixed up there mess. I finally jumped on board and bought a XBOX360, which will last me beyond 2010 then i will buy the next when it is ‘READY’
btw xbox was out for about 4-5 years while 360 been out about 3 years now so if they were to make a new console they would have anounced it by now as it is nearing the forth year so yeh.
xbox360 is cool. xbox3 way too soon
@mike
no ive had my 360 for about 3 years and ive only had the 3RoD once, so idk what ur talkin about 6-12 months
@ppl who talking about pc
eh idk i have a laptop but i only play WoW on it, i dont really use it that much so i wouldnt know that much about all that graphics card stuff
No new xbox or ps will be launched! these talks are all bullshit!!
PC is the best, hahaa!!
Xbox360 launched 2006. That would make the xbox 360’s life-span 4 years (add some delay) 5 years. Pretty average life-span for a console or personal computer. I’d like a new xbox with some freaking HD tech
