Rumor: Call of Duty 5 Will Be Set in Japan?

It was re-confirmed earlier today that, yes, Treyarch and Infinity Ward would continue to trade off on developing games for the Call of Duty franchise. And unfortunately, yes, that does mean the next Call of Duty game will be taking us back to *groan* World War II. On the plus side though, at least Treyarch is looking to shake up the game a little bit with its setting. Rumor is now suggesting that Call of Duty 5 will actually take place in Japan. It is also suspected that the game will put players in the shoes of Japanese soldiers, rather than their Western counterparts. Details are of course sketchy about what sort of battles will be recreated, but I’d bet you’ll be taking a trip to Iwo Jima at some point. And I’d bet the game will somehow still be a lesser version of Call of Duty 2.

I believe Infinity Ward *has* learned that. However, this is Treyarch. They apparently haven’t got the message yet.
I’d like to see a CoD game set in the Korean War. Just think of the set peice they could make outta 300,000 screamin chinamen storming across the northern border…

I wouldn’t mind Treyarch or IW taking CoD back to the WW2 era… if they’d put you in the shoes of the enemy or lesser known battlegrounds.
Instead of fighting Germans… how bout be one? Not every German soldier was a Nazi you know. A lesser known battleground? How bout Italy? The fight for Monte Cassino would be a great setting to create missions. Fighting as a Japanese soldier? I’m sure a banzai charge final mission would be a nice set piece. Or on the flipside, how bout being put in the shoes of a Japanese-American soldier whose family has been taken prisoner by their own country? The 442nd Infantry became the most decorated regiment in the US military history despite it, that’s gotta have some good storytelling for a CoD game.
I would like to see a pacific islands WW2 COD. I think it would be interesting to play from both sides as a Japanese and US soldier. It would be interesting to be playing as a soldier on one side, maybe calling in an arti strike to blow the crap out of bunker complex and then later in the game playing as a soldier defending the complex and being on the receiving end of it. A nice contemplative anti war vibe and lots of great visuals and music like The Thin Red Line.

Why not finish off CoD4 so we find out what happins? and expansion pack? or even a CoD5 set in the future kind of like battlefield 2142 did? even Vietnam would be cool. ww2 is all used up i dont give a shit about playing as a axis soldier
COD 5 wont be the same if its in WW2 setting, get with the times, WW2 war games are done. stop beating the dead horse.
if they are smart they will keep the modern warfare. Its makes people playing feel like they are in the present playing, not partaking in a out dated WW2 movie. if they make this in a WW2 setting they are passing the torch to Battlefeild Bad Company. It pas passed to COD 4 from games like Rainbow six and GRAW.
i would say there still will be more people playing COD 4 even if COD 5 is out and has a WW2 theme, i sure wont be playing any more WW2 theme games. its history.

I wouldn’t mind a WWII setting, as long as it isn’t traditional. Other people have said that lesser-known, but important battlefields would make it a great game, and I agree. For instance, the fighting in Serbia, Russia, and maybe pre-WWII, in the spanish revolution, which is somewhat connected. And it would be better with a better storyline…For instance in COD4 and COD2, I got pissed when one of the main characters died! you should’ve seen the rampage i went on after having a squadmate killed. and more options would be nice…that’s why i like COD2, and COD3 (a little). there were really fun things to do! like in COD2, noone could forget shooting down German fighters from the ball turret of a B42! or driving out of an exploding fuel depot in COD3. things like this make it hella fun
why cant they be sensible like battlefield, dont go back go forward look at 2142 for instance how fun are the futureistic guns in that??
How about COD 6 in WWI. However a different kind of world WWI. Lets say that Herron (an ancient Greek engineer who first discovered steam power) actually used steam power and utilize it to develop mechanical steam engines. However he didn’t see the potential of steam power and he created toys. Lets say that the industrial revolution started 3000 years earilier. An then you have WWI with advanced weapons. Same axis, allies, battlegrounds and maybe a different outcome. Trench ware fare with a future twist. Biplanes with jet engines, Mauzers and Lee Enfields with lazer scopes and so on…
when will COD 5 BE OUT IM CURIOUS. COD4 hasnt finished yet and loads of people stillll play it

i think once you go forward you carnt go back they sould stick in the same time zone as COD4 but for COD5 you sould play as the terrorists talking over the USA or somthing like that but if it goes back to WWII im going to die WWII is over STICK WITH MODERN WARFEAR !!!
